Khabib Nurmagomedov’s MMA promotion Eagle FC will debut in the U.S with a few former UFC fighters.

Following his retirement from MMA competition in 2019, Khabib Nurmagomedov hasn’t strayed too far from the sport. He is still coaching the next wave of Dagestani fighters and has even opened his own MMA fight promotion. His Eagle FC is based out of Russia but is planning to begin holding shows in the United States next year. The very first event already has a location in Miami FL, and now has a headliner.

As first reported by ESPN, former UFC heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva was scheduled to take on Tyrone Spong in the main event. However, Silva will no longer be taking part in the event and has been replaced by Russian heavyweight Sergei Kharitonov (30-8) to face Spong.

Silva, who is 42 years old, has not won an MMA bout of any kind since 2015. Although he has still been active he has now lost six in a row, five of which were by KO or TKO. Silva’s last fight was in June against Quentin Domingos for Megdan Fighting.

Nurmagomedov promised that he would be bringing Eagle FC to the States and with it some former UFC and Bellator athletes. Former UFC lightweight champion Rashad Evans will also be competing on the card.

Evans will be coming out of retirement for this Eagle FC card. He will be fighting at Lightheavyweight according to MMA Junkie. His opponent is not determined at this time.

Towards the end of Evans’ UFC career, he was on a five-fight losing streak against top opponents.  His last bout was a 53-second knockout loss to Anthony Smith at UFC 225. Following his retirement, the former light heavyweight champ was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

This Eagle FC event will be taking place on Jan. 28 at FLX Arena in Miami, FL. The event will be shown on UFC Fight Pass.

Will you be tuning in to watch Eagle FC on Jan. 28?

Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva

Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva is back in the cage but is disputing the TKO stoppage loss in his return fight.

Silva recently returned to MMA under the Megdan Fighting promotion out of Serbia. In the main event of Megdan Fighting 9, Silva faced Quentin Domingos, an up-and-coming fighter from Portugal. The fight was Silva’s first since a defeat at the hands of Vitaly Minakov at Fight Nights Global 68 back in June 2017.

Silva and Domingos entered the second round exchanging shots. As Silva was trying to defend a flurry from Domingos, he fell to the ground. The referee stopped the fight 28 seconds into the round, as Silva was trying to get back on his feet.

Silva immediately protested and then took to social media to voice his complaints.

“Why the refer to stop the fight? @megdan.fighting … You train for months, give up many things like food, fun and sometimes even family to get 100% in a fight, then a referee comes along and spoils all the hard work you did every day , losing or winning is part of it but unfortunately some people do not know or understand the sport they are part of… They sent me this video to give me an idea that there was no reason for the referee to stop the fight…#megdanfighting”

From the two videos posted to Silva’s Instagram and a fan’s Twitter, Silva attempted to defend and get back up, supporting his claim that the stoppage was premature.

Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva needs a win.

It’s understandable why Silva wants this decision reviewed and hopefully overturned. This decision places him on an eight-fight skid, with eleven losses in his last twelve fights. Silva’s only victory over the previous eight years was a TKO over Soa Palelei at UFC 190 in 2015.

Do you think that the referee stopped Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva’s return prematurely?

Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva: ‘It Is A ‘Pezão’ From Ten Years Ago That Will Return’

Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva

Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva is hoping to roll back the clock when he returns to MMA for the first time in four years on June 13.

Silva hasn’t competed in MMA since suffering a knockout loss to Vitaly Minakov at a Fight Nights Global event back in June 2017. That setback put him on a five-fight losing streak with just one win in his previous 10 outings overall. All his setbacks in that run have come by way of knockout or TKO.

The Brazilian would go on to compete in kickboxing in October 2017 and most recently, bareknuckle boxing in October 2019. However, both fights — against Rico Verhoeven and Gabriel Gonzaga respectively — saw him lose via early knockout.

In an interview with AG Fight, ‘Bigfoot’ explained that he is feeling motivated and focused ahead of his fight against Quentin Domingos at Megdan Fighting 9 in Serbia.

“I am very anxious after a few years away,” Silva said. “I am motivated, happy to arrive on the 13th of June to return to MMA, against a guy who has six fights, who is very strong. (…) It was my career that launched me on the martial art scene, so I have a great love. New opportunities appeared, but as soon as it was MMA, I already thought it was time (to return). I had my first fight in 2004. I have a feeling for MMA, so it’s quick to pick up. I’m 300% focused to get back (laughs).

Silva insists the best version of himself will be in the Cage on June 13.

“(The problem) was here (in the head). From 2014 onwards, my life went down a long way, not only professionally, but personally as well,” Silva said. “Personal things I did that influenced my professional life. At the time I thought I was right, I didn’t see the error and this is a snowball. You reap what you sow. I made a big change. I wish I had this head and this personal life for years. Surely now it is a ‘Pezão’ from ten years ago that will return. I had to fall several times to see where I went wrong (…) Falling is important, but the most important thing is to get up and, thank God, I managed.”

The 41-year-old understands that his career will soon reach its conclusion.

“I believe that I am closer than far from retirement. I want to close this cycle with a flourish, as I started, with good fights. I intend to fight another year, maybe five more fights, and close with a flourish,” Silva explained. “That is my goal.”

Do you think Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva will get back in the win column on June 13?

Oftentimes, when an athlete crosses over to superstardom, they try their hand at acting. Michael Jordan set the bar with Space Jam back in the mid-1990s, and ever since, athletes from all sports have attempted to follow suit.

Mixed martial artists are no different, and seem to have even more reasons to find a way out from getting punched in the face for a living.

With the UFC now owned by Hollywood powerhouse WME-IMG, fighters now have much easier access to the film industry, as well as the resources necessary to get work as actors or actresses in movies.

Unfortunately, most fighters are terrible actors, so we here at Lowkick MMA have dug through the archives to give you the ten worst movies starring or featuring MMA fighters!

10. Randy Couture – The Expendables

Couture was already essentially retired from MMA when he made the plunge into Hollywood, and given the star-studded cast, it’s hard to rate this crossover as harshly as we will with others.

Couture brought some real tough guy accolades to the table, but his acting was wooden and a bit forced, and even though the franchise spawned a bunch of sequels as well as a ton of money, it wasn’t because of Couture. Big names like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham we’re clearly the a-side, bringing in much of the drawing power.

Couture still managed to land a few acting gigs after The Expendables, including several of the franchise’s sequels.
