Former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight titleholder Ben Askren filled in for the UFC 252 bound Daniel Cormier on the latest episode of ‘DC & Helwani’ with hilarious results.

Askren brought in UFC featherweight Chase Hooper to help play a joke on the veteran MMA reporter Ariel Helwani. Hooper quickly walks into and out of shot before Askren manages to convince Helwani that the 145lb prospect is not Hooper and is in fact his son who was born when Askren was just 16-years-old. It’s not until about 30 minutes later ‘Funky’ reveals the prank and to a very shocked Helwani – check out the full video below…

Former dual weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier says he looks like Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the movie star seems to agree.

Cormier admits he has been struggling to keep the weight off during the lockdown. However, when an ESPN poster made him look podgy, Cormier intervened and asked for a bit more definition on be added which resulted in him looking like ‘The Rock’. Check out the poster below.

Speaking on the latest episode of ESPN’s “DC and Helwani”, the MMA reporter tells Cormier he is being roasted online for the poster, he says.

“Robert Pearson made us this amazing poster and you are getting killed for this poster because they all think that you made it and you made yourself look like The Rock. You have this nice slim figure, the neck, what’s going on with this poster?”

Cormier then went on to explain how the whole poster situation played out.

“So here’s the deal, I was shown three copies…the poster,” Cormier said. “The first one was a little pudgy, you know, then I said ‘Make him a little less pudgy’ and then he made him a little less pudgy.”

“And then I said ‘Shave his head. Make his face look like mine but like The Rock, and then I want my body to look like The Rock.”

“Don’t hate,” Cormier said. “People are hatin’ because I look like Dwayne Johnson. It’s not my fault that there’s a very strong resemblance between me and The Rock.” (Transcribed by Heavy.com)

While not many fans seem to agree the only man who counts does. ‘The Rock’ took to social media to address the poster and his “twin” Cormier, he wrote.

“Maaan this gave me a good laugh. Me and my brother [Daniel Cormier] are pretty much identical twins. Get over it people. Sheeesh.”

Ariel Helwani Buries Dillon Danis With Social Media Put-Down

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani continues to prove his social media game is strong, this time taking down Bellator welterweight Dillon Danis.

The jiu-jitsu black belt Danis took to Twitter to go after ESPN reporter Helwani. He posted a clip of a street fight in which one man is knocked out – Danis captioned the video, “Next time I see Ariel Helwani.”

Helwani didn’t take the dig laying and quickly came back to bury Danis, he said. “You connecting with a punch let alone dropping someone? Well, I guess there really could be a first time for everything.”

Danis is a 2-0 profession with Bellator MMA. Both his wins have come by first-round submission against lower-level opposition. ‘El Jefe’ is clearly a talented grappler but his striking leaves a lot to be desire. Despite training with Conor McGregor, he seriously lacks hand and will need to improve this to advance his MMA career.

Right now, Danis is currently sidelined after undergoing a seven-hour surgery to reconstruct his knee. Announcing the news via Twitter, he wrote. “7 hour surgery to reconstruct my knee today This has been one of the toughest tests of my career, but i’m fully committed to take it head on and come back stronger than ever. You can break my body but never my spirit!”

Darren Till & Ariel Helwani In Sexually Charged Twitter Exchange

Darren Till

UFC middleweight contender Darren Till got into a pretty unusual social media exchange with ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani last night.

Till started the conversation by blasting Helwani who he called a “bitch” on Twitter.

“The tough guy act is over. The Darren Till act is now. MMA needs this. Getting offended is over rated. You feelings bitch. Ariel Helwani you are a bitch.”

The Liverpudlian wasn’t done there though and proceeded to call the MMA journalist a “dirty rat” when prompted by a fan.

Helwani quickly fired back using one of Till’s popular comebacks against the fighter the ESPN reporter said. “I’m not going to shag you mate.”

Unfortunately for Helwani his tweet backfired when Till doubled down claiming the Canadian had just messaged him asking to watch some pretty graphic stuff, he wrote.

“U just sent me a DM saying you wouldn’t shag me but would 100% watch me which is it Ariel?” Till then posted a screenshot of a text from Helwani which read. “You know Darren? I would 100% watch you…”

Till hasn’t fought since beating Kelvin Gastelum in his middleweight debut last year. The former welterweight title challenger beat the TUF winner by a decision to bounce back from consecutive losses against Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal. He’s hoping to get the chance to face Robert Whittaker next, even if it has to take place on Dana White’s Fight Island. The fight was originally set to take place at UFC Dublin this August although that now appears unlikely.

The 27-year-old has been keeping himself entertained during the coronavirus induced lockdown by becoming one of the must-follow MMA fighters on social media. Unfortunately for Helwani, he was in the firing line last night and things got weird.

On Tuesday, ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani and retired mixed martial arts referee Big John McCarthy got into a debate over a claim the former made.

McCarthy posted that he was watching the 30 for 30 episode on Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. However, he wasn’t a fan of Helwani’s claim on the show that the UFC was “running from regulation” before it was purchased by Zuffa:

“Sitting here watching the 30 for 30 on Tito and Chuck and can’t believe that someone as knowledgeable as @arielhelwani still perpetuates the lie that the UFC was unregulated and “Running from Regulation” when Zuffa bought the UFC. Stop and learn the truth,” he wrote.

Helwani would reply stating he said the opposite but McCarthy pointed to how the UFC was running towards regulation even before Zuffa:

“You said that when Zuffa took over they did the opposite of the previous owners and ran towards regulation. That is simply not true,” he replied. “The UFC was running towards regulation to survive years before Zuffa came around. Your telling a story you heard instead of knowing the facts”

Helwani retorted that it didn’t work out well for the UFC but ultimately failed to address McCarthy’s comment:

“How did that work out? How many states were regulating the sport when it was purchased? One of the smartest things they ever did was hire Marc Ratner. He opened many doors regulation-wise and helped legitimize the sport,” Helwani said.

“First, a snippet of a long interview,” Helwani added in response to a fan. “Second, that clip is about the new regime and what they did. Not dismissing previous regime but no denying that the hiring of the likes of Ratner changed the fortunes of the company. Y’all can nitpick all you want. Stand by what I said.”
