Derrick Lewis

UFC heavyweight fan favorite Derrick Lewis was reportedly arrested for reckless driving last month after police officers clocked him going 136 mph, nearly three times the posted 50 mph limit, in a red Lamborghini.

‘The Black Beast’ was released the same day on a $100 recognizance bond. By the time the news started making it into headlines, Lewis was already in Sao Paulo, Brazil gearing up for his UFC Fight Night headliner against streaking division standout Jailton Almeida.

“I don’t even think that was me,” Lewis jokingly told reporters during the UFC Sao Paulo media event on Wednesday. “That guy had hair. You seen the picture? I don’t got no hair. That ain’t me.”

In a rather hilarious turn, the arrest report lists Lewis as having black hair (he’s bald) and weighing 215 pounds. Perhaps that argument will work in his favor when he returns to court on December 27 to face the misdemeanor charge.

Derrick Lewis Goes into UFC Sao Paulo as a Sizeable Underdog.

Until then, Lewis will look to build off the momentum he gained following his impressive first-round knockout of Marcos Rogério de Lima at UFC 291. Before that, ‘The Black Beast’ had lost four of his last five fights, all finishes.

Meeting him inside the Octagon on Saturday will be fast-rising heavyweight contender Jailton Almeida. Riding into the bout on a 14-fight win streak, ‘Malhadinho’ has finished every man he has faced under the UFC banner. As a result, Almeida is listed as a -500 favorite to get the W in his home country. Lewis currently sits as a +380 underdog.

Geoff Neal

Geoff Neal has experienced a bit of a rough patch ahead of his UFC 269 bout with Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Neal is looking to get back on track after losing two in a row for the first time in his career, by facing Ponzinibbio in the UFC’s final pay-per-view event of the year. However, he will be doing so just days after having spent time in jail following an arrest in Texas.

According to reports, Neal was picked up by the Texas Department of Public Safety at 3:47 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, just 16 days before his upcoming bout at UFC 269. He was arrested on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying a weapon.

Geoff Neal was then taken to the Collin County Jail, in McKinney, where he was processed. After facing a bail amount of $1,000 for each charge, he was released from jail just after 8 p.m., that very same day.

At the time of writing, it appears that Neal will still be facing Ponzinibbio on December 11th. Additionally, neither he nor the UFC has released an official statement regarding this incident.

Geoff Neal is in need of a big win, after suffering back-to-back losses to Stephen Thompson and Neil Magny, which derailed his seven-fight winning streak. Prior to that, he was in the ICU for about a week dealing with septicemia, a blood infection that could have easily cost him his life.

Time will tell if this incident in Texas will have any effect on Neal’s conditioning for the fight or is an indication of the way his training camp went.

Usman Nurmagomedov

Usman Nurmagomedov has found himself in some hot water in Moscow.

Usman, cousin to former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, fights under the Bellator banner, where he is an undefeated 14-0 lightweight contender. Of course, having the last name that he does, he has drawn serious attention in every fight, with his most recent bout being a rear-naked choke victory over Patrik Pietilä, at last month’s Bellator 269.

However, it seems that he will be having a hard time competing again in the immediate future following an incident in Moscow. According to a police statement obtained by Russian outlet VT and translated by The Sun, Nurmagomedov was apprehended by law enforcement following a situation that saw him and another individual involved in a hit-and-run with a police officer at an airport.

“The Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Kaspiysk is looking for Kamal Khabibovich Idrisov, 10/29/1998, and Osman Magomednabievich Nurmagomedov, 04/17/1998, who hit a police officer at the airport checkpoint in a Toyota Camry,” the statement reads.

“The abovementioned persons flew to the Sheremetyevo airport – the source of RIA Novosti quoted a police orientation. They are suspected of having run over a police officer at the Airport checkpoint by car. Citizens were taken to the duty unit of the line unit. The issue of detention and placement in a temporary detention facility is being resolved.”

While the initial statement says that authorities were still seeking out Usman Nurmagomedov and Kamal Idrisov, it seems that this issue was resolved. The lightweight prospect posted to his Instagram Stories shortly after news broke of this situation, apparently saying that all is well.

“I don’t know who writes what,” Nurmagomedov wrote (translated via Google). “Please calm down already ?”

At the time of writing, this is really all that is known from this situation with Usman Nurmagomedov. There has been no statement from Bellator regarding the matter.

UFC welterweight Abdul Razak Alhassan has been indicted on sexual assault charges stemming from his April arrest in Tarrant County, Texas.

*Warning*: the following article contains graphic details regarding an alleged sexual assault.

Star-Telegram reporter Deanna Boyd reported the news on Tuesday (Sept. 25 2018). She added that a grand jury in Tarrant County, Texas, issued the two-count indictment for the fighter on Monday. Alhassan was arrested in April regarding these charges and is currently free on $20,000 bail.

Alhassan has been accused of raping two women inside their homes. Boyd reported that Alhassan allegedly drove both intoxicated women home from a bar in March. The UFC fighter allegedly committed the sexual assaults in the women’s home.

One of the victims told investigators that she was far too inebriated to remember anything from that night. However, the other women said she remembered Alhassan raping her and then raping her friend.

Alhassan’s attorney filed a motion to modify the bond conditions so that he could continue to train and compete at UFC 228. A judge granted the fighter his request, in so allowing Alhassan to remove his GPS monitor and leave Tarrant County.

Because of the special conditions granted to Alhassan, he was able to fight at UFC 228 where he demolished Niko Price in the first round.

Alhassan’s stock was on the rise prior to these allegations. It remains to be seen just how these charges will play out. but it doesn’t look good for the native Ghanaian right now.

Diego Brandao’s Latest Arrest is PEAK War Machine Diego Brandao

(Nothing like starting a fight on camera to avoid looking bad.)

At the risk of inciting his well-documented wrath, we feel compelled to say that TUF 14 winner Diego Brandao might be a bit of a loose cannon. Aside from the short fuse he displayed while in the TUF house, the man has also threatened to stab Dustin Poirier with a pen and attacked a Carnaval reporter on camera in the recent past, which doesn’t exactly speak to the zen-like qualities that martial arts is supposed to inspire.

Brandao’s latest arrest, however, is like something out of a War Machine fan fiction novel.

Details after the jump.

Over the weekend, details started to leak that the TUF 14 winner had been arrested outside of a strip club in Albuquerque for allegedly striking an employee with a gun. According to MMAJunkie, Brandao was arrested on Friday, charged with aggravated battery and three counts of aggravated assault, then released on Saturday after posting the $15,000 bond.

Last night, however, the nasty details of the incident were laid out when Brandao’s public arrest warrant was released (again via MMAJunkie), so strap yourself in for this mess…

According to the warrant, a doorman from Knockouts, Anthony Romero, told police Brandao had been arguing with the club’s DJ and appeared to be intoxicated. He left the bar and attempted to return, but was denied because of his intoxication.

“Hey puta, the next song that comes on better be Scatman John or I’m going to lose my shit!”

It was then that Brandao allegedly tried to punch his way back into the bar and wound up fighting four employees – including the DJ – before Romero pushed him out and then locked the door into the club.

Another bouncer, Lavon King, identified Brandao as “the UFC guy” that had previously visited the club several times and confirmed his identity when a dancer showed him a picture on her phone. The bouncer was outside Knockouts with another bouncer, Patrick Otero, and he saw Brandao drive his car off the parking lot and move it to a nearby street corner.

Wait, the club is called Knockouts? I’m going to assume that this whole incident can be traced back to Brandao’s inability to understand double entendre, then.

Then, Brandao allegedly exited the car carrying a gun and pointed it at the group.

(Brandao) pointed the gun at (King’s) chest and yelled at the group. Lavon stated that Diego then pointed the gun at Patrick’s face and then struck him in the face with the firearm.

Lavon stated that (Brandao) pointed the gun at the three of them again and then went back to the vehicle. Lavon did state that he was in fear of losing his life during the altercation.

Romero told police as soon as he heard Brandao allegedly had a firearm, he escorted other bar patrons inside to take shelter.

Man, how long do you think it will be before MMA is re-banned in Albuquerque? “You’re not safe on the roads, you’re not safe in the strip clubs…what’s next, a turf war inside the Stop n’ Shop?!”

Patrick stated he tried to calm Diego down and reason with him, but Diego turned the firearm to him and pointed it at his head. Patrick stated he put his hands up and noticed the other two subjects run behind Patrick’s car for cover.

Patrick stated that Diego asked him why he didn’t help him and hit him with the butt of the firearm on his chin. Patrick stated Diego then walked back to his vehicle, and pointed the firearm at the three of them one more time prior to leaving the area.

I’m just sayin’, Thiago Silva would have applauded Brandao’s restraint.

The UFC has of course released their obligatory statement on Brandao’s arrest, which you can check out below.

“We are aware that UFC featherweight Diego Brandao was arrested Friday following an altercation at a business establishment in Albuquerque, N.M. We are in the process of gathering more information at this time. While we are concerned by the nature of the reported allegations, it is important to note that Brandao is entitled to due process in a court of law. We will have no further comment until more information can be gathered.”

With Brandao currently serving a suspension for a positive marijuana test administered following his loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 195, you’d imagine that this would be the last straw for the troubled featherweight. Then again, the UFC needed video evidence of Thiago Silva actually committing his crimes before they were willing to let him go, so who knows what lies in store for this idiot.

More on this as it develops.
