After a litany of fight cancelations, Aspen Ladd finally meets Macy Chiasson and is still eying a fight with Miesha Tate before UFC Vegas 38 goes down this weekend.

Ladd, 26, is the #3-ranked fighter in the UFC women’s bantamweight division. In her last Octagon appearance, she was tasked with fighting Yana Kunitskaya and showcased her refined power. The California native is known for her fast hands, and they were on full display in her last fight. After her coach Jim West got her motivated in between rounds, Ladd came out and sparked Kunitskaya. The bantamweight finished the contest and earned the victory with some vicious ground and pound.

Ahead of her October 2 fight with Macy Chiasson, Aspen Ladd spoke with MMA News‘ own James Lynch who inquired about what is next for Ladd in 2021. It seems the 26-year-old is fixated on a fight between herself and the former bantamweight champ Miesha Tate.

“Honestly, what I would love after this fight—and I don’t really want to look further than it—but I would love to fight Miesha. I mean, that’s one of the biggest names in female MMA if she came back. Who wouldn’t want to fight her?” Ladd said.

When asked if she was surprised Vieira got booked with “Cupcake” instead of herself, the bantamweight seemed confused about the entire matchmaking process. After all, Ladd is higher in the rankings at #3 in the weight class and has called the former champ out for a while now.

“A little bit just because she’s been saying a lot that she wants the title run. It would’ve made more sense for her to try to get me than Ketlen. But Ketlen’s a very tough opponent. That’s not an easy fight. And we’ll see if she comes out of that with a win.”

The return of Miesha Tate made waves in the women’s 135-pound weight class. If all goes well for Ladd, a fight with “Cupcake” might actually be in the cards. Without a doubt, the upcoming showdown targeted for Nov. 20 between Tate and Ketlen Vieira will help Aspen Ladd to determine her next move in the UFC.

Macy Chiasson isn’t ready to let people overlook the women’s 135-pound division.

An exciting matchup in the UFC bantamweight division is on the horizon at UFC Vegas 38. Macy Chiasson is taking on Aspen Ladd on the main card portion of the event. Although many people might not be talking about the bout, Chiasson wants people to wake up and take notice. She spoke to James Lynch for MMASucka.com about this fact.

“People are sleeping on the 35 women’s division, so I think people are sleeping on this fight,” Chiasson said. “It’s gonna be a really good fight, you’re gonna see a lot of good transitions, you’re gonna see real MMA. I’m so hyped, I’m excited.”

Chiasson is on a two-fight winning streak. She most recently beat Marion Reneau for her seventh professional MMA win. Despite being fairly new in the sport, Chiasson has made a splash in the UFC since she was a cast member of The Ultimate Fighter. She was originally set to fight in the featherweight division as the TUF season was projected towards, but she has proven she can hang with the best at 135 pounds.

Now, she has a chance against the number three ranked fighter, Aspen Ladd. Ladd has raced up the ranks, beating the likes of Sijara Eubanks and Yana Kunitskaya along the way. Despite Ladd’s position in the rankings, Chiasson sees the fight going her way.

“I think we could see a really tirelessly, nonstop back and forth three rounder,” Chiasson said. “Or maybe a little reversal position in the grappling exchange. Or I catch her. My boxing has been on point, my hands are unlike any level and I usually don’t boost about myself like that but I’ve been working with Charles Byrd and he’s helped me a lot in the last few months. The secret is just basics — tight defense, always moving, never stay in a vulnerable spot, head movement, jabs, so I’m really excited to show off my basics. I think this fight could go many different ways.”

This fight was originally set to take place on July 24 but was pushed back due to an injury by Chiasson.

In our most recent installment of MMA News Archives to date, here’s a story from just three months ago of tonight’s UFC Vegas 40 headliner Aspen Ladd coming to the defense of Conor McGregor. The following story is presented in its original, unaltered form.

[ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED July 23, 2021, 11:00 AM]

Aspen Ladd believes people are giving Conor McGregor too much of a hard time.

Much has been made about McGregor’s post-fight UFC 264 antics. After suffering a broken tibia, ending his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, McGregor slammed Poirier and went as far as to call his wife, Jolie, a “little hoe.”

McGregor has been heavily criticized for his actions and while Ladd doesn’t agree with the comments, she feels the “haters” need to take a step back. Here’s what she said to Brian Campbell of Morning Kombat (h/t Middle Easy).

“I think the only thing that I saw that he handled incorrectly was his post-fight interview, but the dude was in pain. Everybody’s basically crapping all over him, but he just broke his leg, he just lost a fight, he is not in a good mental place,” Ladd said.

“Anybody hating on him really shouldn’t be. He’s done so much for the sport. (It’s almost the same as) Ronda Rousey, what’s your take on her. It’s like, everybody should be grateful. Sure, you might want to that (person), you might want to do that. But these people have elevated the sport… You did a great job, you helped all of us.”

Ronda Rousey has also defended McGregor. She even went as far as to praise the “Notorious” one for setting up a fourth bout with Poirier while suffering from his leg injury.

Ladd was expected to share the Octagon with Macy Chiasson at UFC Vegas 32 this Saturday night (July 24). Chiasson ended up suffering an injury, so the bout will not take place.
