Bellator MMA has back-to-back events this weekend on Friday and Saturday night. Both events will be headlined by the Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinal match-ups.

Just in case you need some extra incentive to watch Bellator 207 & 208 this weekend, LowkickMMA has you covered.

Whether you want to tune in for Fedor Emelianenko on Saturday night (Oct. 13, 2018) or you want to see if Bellator’s light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader can become a double champ, this weekend has something to offer every fight fan.

Check out our list of 10 reasons to watch Bellator 207 & 208:

Lorenz Larkin Needs A Win

Lorenz Larkin will kick off the main card action on Friday night (Oct 12, 2018) when he meets Germany’s Ion Pascu.

Since signing with the Viacom-owned promotion, Larkin has been less than stellar. He has lost two of his three fights inside the Bellator cage. His lone win came against Fernando Gonzalez at Bellator 193 back in January.

Larkin left the UFC as a top 10 talent, however, its unlikely “The Monsoon” will be fighting for gold of anytime soon.

A win against Pascu is not a gimme by any means. But Larkin most definitely needs to string a couple of wins together in a big way.

Son of mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Kimbo Slice, Kevin Ferguson Jr. (also known as “Baby Slice”) is set to make his lightweight debut for Bellator MMA.

Ferguson signed with Bellator back in July of 2016. He had made a successful amateur debut in the sport earlier that year, winning via first round knockout. In his professional debut, however, things went a bit differently.

He was submitted in the first round by Aaron Hamilton at Bellator 165 in November of 2016. “Baby Slice” has since gone on a three-fight win streak, finishing all of his opponents in the first round by either knockout or submission.

Ferguson’s last two fights, however, have been held at catchweights of 160 pounds. He has finally made the decision to drop down to 155 pounds and compete at lightweight, as opposed to welterweight where he started his career.

“Baby Slice” is set to make his lightweight debut against promotional newcomer Corey Browning. The fight will go down at Bellator 207 on October 12th from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, per ESPN.

Browning is also young in his MMA career. He holds a record of 2-1 and comes off the first defeat of his MMA tenure. Browning was submitted in the first round under the Valor Fights banner against Aaron Hall. He now hopes to play spoiler to Ferguson’s lightweight debut in Connecticut.

Currently, Bellator 207 is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Ryan Bader and Matt Mitrione. Roy Nelson vs. Sergei Kharitonov will compete in the co-main event.

Almost a quarter of a century since UFC 1 ushered in the age of mixed martial arts (MMA), we’ve now reached the stage where some of the sport’s early pioneers have gone on to raise children of their own who decided to follow in their footsteps.

However, as you’ll see in the pages that follow, it’s not always easy for these next-generation fighters to get out from under their famous fathers’ shadows and deal with the weight of expectation that inevitably falls on their shoulders as they look to make their own mark in the sport.

Nevertheless, among these ten fighters stand a few who have so far lived up to the hype, and could yet become future stars in the sport that their fathers helped build.

Randy Couture / Ryan Couture

A true legend of the sport, Randy Couture is one of the UFC’s most decorated fighters, having won the heavyweight title on three separate occasions, the light-heavyweight title twice, and not to mention also having been an interim champ at 205 pounds and UFC 13 heavyweight tournament winner.

With such a formidable career, it was always going to be tough for Couture’s son Ryan to live up to his father’s legacy when he set out to forge his own path in the sport.

As such, the next-generation Couture hasn’t reached the same level of success or fame, but nevertheless he has managed to build a career in the sport that’s seen him fight for the likes of the UFC, Strikeforce and Bellator, compiling an 11-5 record so far that includes includes wins over established veterans like KJ Noons and Conor Heun.

When asked what advice he’d give to others sons of famous fighters, the now 35-year-old said it’s all about managing expectations.

“They should be trying to achieve their own goals and be happy with that,” Couture told BloodyElbow. “If they’re doing it out of some need to achieve the same level of success as that person, whose footsteps they’re following, then they’re setting themselves up for frustration.”
