Bellator welterweight Michael Page is so determined to KO Douglas Lima that he’s willing to shun a title shot for a third fight with the Brazilian.

Page avenged his 2019 loss to Lima by earning a victory in their headline bout at Bellator 267 on Friday. In their previous meeting, “MVP” was spectacularly knocked out by Lima, and this time around, he was looking to return the favor. All Page managed, however, was a controversial split-decision win. Two judges scored it 29-28 for Page, while the third had it 29-28 for Lima.

The victory places Page as the likely next challenger for champ Yaroslav Amosov and extends his win streak to six fights. Lima is now on a three-fight losing streak after being dethroned as champ in July by Amosov, and prior to that in 2020, losing his middleweight debut to Gegard Mousasi.

Michael Page Vows To KO Lima In Third Fight, Doesn’t Care About Title Shot

Despite earning redemption for his loss to Lima—the only of his career— Page told press post-fight that he wasn’t satisfied with the narrow victory. The 34-year-old said that his chief ambition now is to get another crack at the Brazilian.

“In all honesty, I’ll probably push to run this one back again,” Page told media at the Bellator post-fight press conference (h/t MMA JUNKIE) “Let’s do five rounds, why not? Let’s go longer.”

“If by the end of the third round that had happened again, I got two more rounds to find you and finish you properly. I’ve gone from one end to the other and hopefully, I find that balanced middle and finish him.”

For Page, it seems settling a score takes precedence over all else, including becoming welterweight champ. The Englishman said that finishing Lima means a lot more to him than winning the belt.

“It’s a belt, who cares?” said Page. “How many people that are titleholders are nowhere near as popular as I am? The belt don’t mean anything. It does obviously, but for me, it doesn’t. That moment right there (the decision win over Lima), there’s so many Bellator belt holders that can’t pull off what I did today.”

“I feel like people are drawn to me because of my enjoyment of the sport, not because I’m chasing anything. It’s about my journey and pushing myself. I didn’t get to prove that today. I won but I didn’t make his eyes roll to the back of his head and not get back up. I know I can do it, so I prefer to run it back.”

What do you think? Should Michael Page focus on the title, rather than Douglas Lima?

Bellator 267 has just wrapped up from Wembley’s SSE Arena in London, and we’ve got your results and main event highlights right here!

The main event of Bellator 267 saw Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) facing former welterweight champion Douglas Lima again in the main event. Page had been asking for this fight since he lost to Lima in 2019. Lima, having lost the title at Bellator 260, has found himself in a position where he had to take a fight with the man he felt needed to work his way up to him. The loss to Yaroslov Amosov and his loss to Gegard Mousasi put Lima at two losses in a row, so he needed a win in London.

Page, on the other hand, entered the fight with five wins in a row and was looking to avenge his only loss against Lima. With that momentum and all this time to prepare since their last match, this all made for a fun fight.

Here are the highlights of what unfolded when the two locked up in the rematch.

Looking to top his last viral knockout against Michael Venom Page (MVP) back in 2019, former 170-pound champ Douglas Lima intends to catch lightning in a bottle once again.

Slated for a second showdown at Bellator 267 this Friday, Lima will fight Page but this time it’s on MVP’s home soil. Taking place inside the SSE Arena, in London, England, Lima will look to line himself up with a fourth crack at a welterweight title reign. But first, he must deal with a former opponent in Page, who is eager to erase that viral moment from the history books.

The two are set to collide on Friday night. Lima shared with MMA Junkie his thought process before a fight of this magnitude. In addition, the former welterweight king underlined that the best way to win a fight is by finishing the opponent.

“No, never. It’s never just about the win,” he stated. “You’ve got to finish him. For me, the best way to win is to finishing the fight. That first one happened (and) went viral and I’m about to do the same thing this time around, even better.”

In 2020, Lima attempted to jump up to 185-pounds and challenge for a second title against Gegard Mousasi. The confident 33-year old came up short and returned to the 170-pound weight class where he would go on to lose again, but this time to the current, 170-pound titleholder, Yaroslav Amosov. After two consecutive losses, Lima is excited about another chance to take the world by storm.

“I’ve got a lot to prove to myself and to the fans, because my last two performances were not good. Not good at all. I understand that and I know the fans are frustrated as well. I got a lot of heated messages, you know what I mean? So I’ve got to show them what I can do and this is the perfect fight to show it. Lima said. It’s a big one, it’s a rematch over here in London and I’m super-excited. I’m pumped for it.”

With pressure mounting after back-to-back losses, Lima believes a second fight against Michael Page will showcase his readiness for another run at gold. Undoubtedly, a fight against MVP in London, England will certainly spark intrigue, especially if Lima can get the job done in style as he did in 2019. As the only man to stop MVP in MMA, Lima is confident he can capture another viral moment this Friday at Bellator 267.

Do you think Lima will finish MVP again?

Bellator 267 is invading London, England, this Friday, and Michael Page intends to outstrike Douglas Lima and exact revenge after being TKO’d in 2019.

The two welterweights are set to rematch in the SSE Arena in London, England. This Friday (October 1, 2021), Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) will have the opportunity to avenge his one and only loss inside the Bellator cage.

Michael Page was undefeated when the two locked horns for the first time. Though he fought with a very determined champion in their initial encounter. In typical fashion, MVP bounced around, with his hands at his waist, and attempted to blitzkrieg his way into the pocket. Lima, meanwhile, stood patiently and began to acclimate to Page’s striking.

Lima met MVP’s offense with wrestling and engaged in clinch work to get “Venom” to the mat early. In a wild sequence taking place in round two, Lima kicked MVP’s legs out from under him, and as he fell to the ground, the Brazilian delivered a crushing right hand to secure the results of their first fight.

Ahead of his second fight with the former champ, Page spoke with MMA Junkie and described the aggressive game plan he is taking with him to Bellator 267.

“I think it’s a very obvious one,” Page said. “His wrestling ability is unbelievable, great. Beautiful style. He’s actually got a really nice flow with his stand-up style. I just personally don’t find him that dangerous standing, which means I can be a little bit more reckless in terms of my positioning, which means I can get a lot more power in terms of my strikes.

“But he’s a person who’s always going to try to hold me down. I’m definitely going to be way more active on my back than Lima was in his last fight, give him a bit more to deal with and be worried about. Page said. But then, after that, I’m going to find my shot. I’m going to find my knee, I’m going to find a kick, I’m going to find a kick, I’m going to find something that’s going to put him on his ass.”

With their second bout popping off in MVP’s home turf, it appears Lima will be fighting more than just Page on Friday night. Looking to right the wrongs of his previous fight with the former 170-pound titleholder, Page has his eyes on the champion Yaroslav Amosov should he emerge from Bellator 267 with an emphatic victory.

Do you think Page will beat Lima in the rematch?
