Khabib Nurmagomedov was ecstatic to watch one of his favorite fighters ever Fedor Emelianenko KO his opponent Tim Johnson at Bellator 269.

‘The Last Emperor’ made his return to the octagon and provided absolute fireworks for the Russian crowd. The card was held in Emelianenko’s home country of Russia. In the stands going crazy for Emelianenko’s return to the octagon was ‘The Eagle’ Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Khabib has always been a big fan of ‘The Last Emperor’ since he saw him fight in the early 2000’s. In a Facebook post from 5 years ago, Khabib said “First time I saw Fedor fight live was in 2004, at Combat Sambo Dagestan Championship. He wasn’t that famous at that moment, but I knew him, and was watching him fight that whole day. That day he won, took first place and after since he was first for me, no matter lose or win”.

Khabib had also named Emelianenko as one of his six GOAT’s of the sport itself. A list that included Emelianenko, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, GSP, Daniel Cormier, and Demetrious Johnson. The two seem to have a good relationship as well and Khabib has even given Emelianenko some advice in the past.

Emelianenko’s win over Johnson was the legends 40th professional win inside the octagon and his fourth win under the Bellator banner. The most logical matchup for Emelianenko, (since he has already proclaimed this was not his last fight) would be to fight Ryan Bader next. He previously lost to Bader in the Heavyweight World Grand Prix Finals back in 2019 by TKO. That would be a really fun matchup to run back if both fighters would want to.

Did you enjoy seeing Fedor Emelianenko back inside the octagon? Would you be interested in a rematch between Fedor Emelianenko and Ryan Bader?

“”The Last Emperor” enjoyed bellator-269/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>an emphatic knockout victory over Tim Johnson in the Bellator 269 headliner last night in Moscow, Russia.

It was Emelianenko’s first fight in nearly two years as well as his first fight in front of his home fans in Russia in five years. And Bellator MMA president Scott Coker was certainly delighted with what he saw.

“Being a promoter for so long, there’s a few times that just capture that moment in time,” Coker said (via MMA Junkie). “This is that night. It was like, ‘Wow.’ At 45, he can still bring it. He threw combinations at Tim that I haven’t seen for a little while honestly. I think that the pressure of him being at home really helped him. When I saw him yesterday, he seemed so focused, and I think a lot was riding on the line for him.

“He’s here, and he’s proud to be here. All of his people were here. It was just an amazing night. It was like, ‘Wow.’”

Given the nature of the win, it would seem the ideal time for Emelianenko to walk off into the sunset and retire as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

However, Coker has scheduled one more fight for Emelianenko and expects it to take place early next year. For now, he is simply letting the Russian enjoy his victory.

“We have scheduled one more fight for him,” Coker added. “I know him. He’s looked really good and beat (a top) contender, but let him enjoy the victory. Let him really savor this thing, and we’ll revisit with him maybe in a month. I think the next event we’ll have, we’ll probably schedule it early next year or maybe Spring of next year. That’s when you’ll see Fedor fight again.”

Emelianenko, meanwhile, was coy on the topic of fighting again.

“I will answer this question tomorrow,” Emelianenko said, with a smile.

Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis will finally make his return to the cage to make his first title defense against Kyoji Horiguchi on Dec. 3 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

Bellator has yet to officially name the event numerically. ESPN’s Marc Raimondi was among the first to report the Pettis vs. Horiguchi booking.

Remarkably, Horiguchi will still be on Rizin’s roster to defend his bantamweight title next year. Rizin and Bellator have a long-standing relationship when it comes to crossover fighters between the promotions.

Pettis earned the belt after out-pointing Juan Archuleta at Bellator 258 earlier this year. He has won four fights in a row, including three in Bellator after a long tenure in the UFC alongside his brother, former UFC champion Anthony Pettis.

The other fights on the card have yet to be named. It’s also unclear if the Pettis vs. Horiguchi bantamweight showdown will be the only title fight on the card, although Bellator hasn’t had many events with multiple title fights.

Sergio Pettis will make his first Bellator bantamweight title defense since earning the belt against Juan Archuleta

Horiguchi will look to begin his second stint in Bellator with style, after a one-off against Darrion Caldwell at Bellator 222. He would go on to return to Rizin to split fights with Kai Asakura.

The Pettis vs. Horiguchi bantamweight title bout could be the last of its kind for a while, as Bellator headman Scott Coker has hinted at a Bellator Bantamweight World Grand Prix for some time next year. Nothing has materialized or been announced yet, but that could change soon.

Pettis, Horiguchi, and others set up what is a fascinating Bellator bantamweight division, which arguably stands toe-to-toe with the UFC’s talented bantamweight roster.

Fedor Emelianenko Junior dos Santos

The MMA community was a bit perplexed when it was announced that heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko would fight Tim Johnson for his Bellator return at Bellator 269, and favored matchups with Junior dos Santos and others.

But Emelianenko has explained why the dos Santos fight was never really in the cards for his return bout.

Emelianenko will make his return to the Bellator cage in front of his hometown crowd in Moscow, RU, in the promotion’s first-ever event in the country. He hasn’t fought since Bellator 237 when he knocked out Rampage Jackson in the first round.

Fedor Emelianenko will make his highly-anticipated return at Bellator 269

Once it was announced that Emelianenko was going to make a comeback this year, there were many opponents who were expected to be in the running for a fight. Dos Santos was a name that made sense to many MMA fans but not to Emelianenko.

“Fighting someone who is spearheading the [division] is always a great opportunity,” Emelianenko said during Bellator 269 media day. “Aside from Tim Johnson, [Junior] dos Santos for example had a serious streak of losses alongside [his record] and he was also fired from the UFC as well.”

“That is why I don’t think it would be very much suitable to fight him compared to Tim Johnson. Not to mention Bellator came up with a bunch of options and Tim was quite an obvious choice.”

Before getting the fight with Emelianenko, Johnson had lost in an interim title bout against Valentin Moldavsky. Dos Santos was among a few big names, including Alistair Overeem, who was cut from the UFC earlier this year due to big losing skids.

Despite his recent struggles, fans wanted a fight between Emelianenko and either dos Santos or Overeem for the name value. But, the promotion ended up booking a fight with Johnson instead.

How do you think a Fedor Emelianenko vs. Junior dos Santos fight would’ve gone?

Dillon Danis is back to his old ways calling out Diego Sanchez, Michael Page, and Jake Shields.

Danis hasn’t fought since Bellator 222 back in 2019 where he won via armbar. The BJJ has been battling injuries since his second fight under the Bellator banner. Danis was on ‘The MMA Hour’ talking about his possible matchups in his future.

“My comeback fight is either gonna be Jake Shields or Diego Sanchez. That’s who I wanna fight when I come back… I can send you the messages that Diego says. That motherf***er’s crazy. So if he wants to get it, I told him too, I was like, ‘Bro I’m gonna hurt you so bad…’ Jake Shields can get it too. John Wayne Parr. I don’t care who it is. I’m gonna come back and gonna fight one of them. Even Michael ‘Venom’ Page, I’ll fight him. He’s so bad.” Danis Said. (Sportskeeda)

Danis may be biting off more than he can chew when calling out these fighters. He only has two professional fights. He has won them both, but all these guys he has named are considerably better than him and any of the fighters he has faced thus far. To call Michael Page “So bad” is an obvious troll job and just to get his name back in the MMA news.

Danis has been known to run his mouth and many consider him to be one of the more annoying figures in the MMA world. His mouth had gotten him in trouble a few weeks ago at a bar in New Jersey. He was arrested after not showing his ID to the bouncer at a bar. He ran his mouth and forced the bouncer to put him in a chokehold where he ended up tapping out to the bouncer and subsequently being arrested.

Could Dillon Danis beat any of the guys he called out?
