Bellator MMA welterweight star Michael ‘Venom’ Page has extended his undefeated mixed martial arts (MMA) undefeated record to 12-0, as the Englishman took home a split decision win over Fernando Gonzalez in the card’s co-main event.

Although the fan favorite may have took home the win, his performance in San Jose was less than what was expected to say the least as the knockout artist produced little to no offense throughout the bout’s progression. During the post-fight press conference, courtesy of Bloody Elbow, Page confessed his performance was not his best work, however, is confident in the fact that he did in fact truly win the contest:

“Normally, I put on a show,” Page said. “People have high expectations. I had a bad day at the office.

“When you’re working with someone being negative ten minutes of the fight, it’s very difficult to get anything off. In the last round, I was disappointed in not figuring out the timing. It was still a bad day at the office, but I won that fight two rounds to one.”

The packed SAP Center crowd let a reign of boo’s fall down on Page and Gonzalez for their reluctance to engage, something ‘Venom’ is familiar with due to the fact that he is fighting abroad. As far as the controversy from the contest goes, ‘MVP’ is open to a rematch with Gonzalez to settle the score once and for all:

“Obviously you don’t ever want to get booed,” said Page. “I’ve been booed before, but in this particular situation it was due to the performance. Usually I’m booed because I’m coming from abroad. It added to the frustration for me because I love to give a good performance. I had a bad day at the office, and I still took a win. I managed to achieve what I wanted to achieve.”

“I’ll take a rematch, but I’ve got other things in mind” said Page, “He didn’t take his chance when he got it. I’m going to move onward and upward.”

Do you think a rematch between ‘MVP’ and Gonzalez is necessary? Or is Page’s performance enough to earn him a shot at Bellator 170-pound gold?

UFC Belfast was headlined by a rematch between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall, while UFC Fight Night 100 was headlined by a rematch between Ryan Bader and Antonio Nogueira. Bellator 165, on the other hand, played host to a lightweight title fight between Michael Chandler and Benson Henderson.

Let’s take a look at the biggest winners and losers from this weekend’s events:

Winner: Ryan Bader

Ryan Bader’s rematch with Antonio Nogueira in the main event of last night’s UFC Fight Night 100 from Brazil marked the last fight on his current contract with the UFC, and he made a statement for sure, stopping “Lil’ Nog” in the third round of their bout.

With the win, Bader kept himself relevant within the scarce 205-pound division and gave himself leverage in terms of free agency. Coming off of an impressive victory, “Darth” may have an easier time negotiating with the UFC, and if not, he may be able to find himself a lucrative deal with another promotion.
