This past weekend saw one of the biggest upsets in boxing history when Andy Ruiz Jr. defeated Anthony Joshua in the seventh round. But oddsmakers don’t see a repeat of it happening.

Ruiz shocked the world when he not only defeated Joshua to become the new unified heavyweight champion, but did so by knocking him down four times on Saturday night.

Heading into the fight, “The Destroyer” was in the range of a +1000 and +2000 underdog. And while the odds in a rematch are not as wide as before, Joshua still remains the favorite.

BetOnline has “AJ” as the -350 favorite in a rematch while Ruiz is a +275 underdog. That means one would have to bet $350 to win $100 on Joshua or one would win $275 if they bet $100 on Ruiz.

“Considering Ruiz was a 14/1 underdog this past weekend, it would be hard to justify him being another huge underdog,” Dave Mason, the sports book brand manager for BetOnline, told Forbes in an email. “However, we expect the smart money to come in on Joshua closer to the fight while the public will probably back Ruiz again.”

In a nutshell, oddsmakers still see Joshua winning the rematch. It is possible that he underestimated his opponent and comes back even better as most elite boxers do after their first professional loss. The rematch likely to take place on home soil in the United Kingdom will also help.

But what if Ruiz is just that good? After all, it was not just a lucky knockout punch that got him the win, but constant pressure that resulted in four knockdowns. We’ll be finding out by the end of this year with the rematch slated for November or December.

The UFC has confirmed Daniel Cormier will rematch Stipe Miocic later this summer after Brock Lesnar abruptly retired from MMA last night.

It’s a fight hardcore MMA fans have been clamoring for in place of the rumored ‘DC’ vs. Lesnar bout that never came to fruition. True, Cormier finished Miocic rather easily in the first round of their main event at last July’s UFC 226. But the specter of an eye poke on Miocic loomed large, causing many to wonder if the outcome would be different a second time around.

We’re apparently going to find out later this summer. Heading into the rematch, early betting odds for the huge bout have been released. According to wagering site BetOnline.ag (via MMA Mania), Cormier has opened as a small -150 favorite over Miocic. The former champion is a +130 underdog.

You may or may not find those odds to be on point considering how rapidly Cormier knocked out Miocic the first time around. However, Miocic does own the UFC record for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses with three in a row. That usually earns a former champion an immediate rematch. But in this case, it took Lesnar retiring for Miocic to get the fight.

For what it’s worth, Miocic has been on the sidelines campaigning for his rematch ever since. It’s at least somewhat surprising to see him get it, yet his stubbornness appears to have paid off in this rare instance.

Who are you putting your money on when they finally rematch this summer?

It seems as if the betting world is willing to gamble on Jon Jones’ 2018, as BetDSI Sportsbook (via Sherdog.com) released the odds of both when his CSAC suspension will be up as well as whether or not he’ll get arrested again this year.

The disgraced former light heavyweight champion has quite a sordid past of various arrests and failed drug tests, and has been sidelined once again following a failed test after his knockout victory over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214.

The betting line for Jones facing a four-year suspension is at +1000, but only +275 for eight months to a year, meaning you’ll be making a safer bet on Jones coming back within a year than you would be for anything longer. That’s fairly surprising considering this is the second doping test he’s tested positive for. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) could conceivably drop the hammer due to this being a subsequent offense.

However, the line for Jones returning this calendar year is -115, with the craziest bet being for -7000 for Jones to not get arrested this year at +3500 for him to once again find himself in trouble with the law.

As for who would be the safest bet for Jones’ return opponent, that would be Daniel Cormier, which is at +175, with Alexander Gustafsson next at +300 and heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at +350.
