Legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum has slammed Dana White and the UFC their ‘cowboy behavior’ during the coronavirus pandemic.

Arum has previously spoken out against White saying he “ought to be ashamed of himself” for pressing ahead with events right now. Speaking to Boxing Scene he has again gone after the UFC president and insists he won’t be putting on events until it’s safe to do so, he said.

“Good luck to them. I just hope that they’re not endangering the safety of anyone. But this kind of cowboy behavior doesn’t do anybody any good.

“We’re looking now with Nevada, which we’ll do in a sensible way, or California. We’re working with (Nevada Athletic Commission executive diretor) Bob Bennett and (California State Athletic Commission executive officer) Andy Foster, and we’re talking to the Texas commission. We’re only gonna do this if it’s safe for the fighters and everyone involved, and if it’s approved by the medical authorities.

“We’re not gonna be cowboys, like Dana White. I don’t wanna get politics involved, but I have really very little respect for Dana and what he’s doing.”

“I think the behavior of people in sports we should be following are Adam Silver of the NBA, Roger Goodell of the NFL – people who are proceeding cautiously and safely, not people who are acting like cowboys.”

Arum used the failed April 18 UFC 249 show as an example as to why events shouldn’t go ahead right now. Lyman Good was supposed to compete on the card but was later found to have tested positive for the coronavirus.

“For example, (the UFC) wanted to do this fight in California and they were prevented by the governor and by senator (Dianne) Feinstein going to ESPN and having Dana pull (the event).

“It turned out one of the fighters, in fact, tested positive afterward for coronavirus. You know, if we get something like that on one of Dana’s shows, and God forbid there’s a serious incident of spreading the disease, it doesn’t do well for anybody who’s involved with sports.”

Do you agree with Bob Arum? Is Dana White acting dangerously right now?

Legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum believes UFC President Dana White should be ashamed of himself for putting on events during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Top Rank boss has taken bold steps to combat the virus, postponing all of his upcoming events and refusing to make concrete plans for future events until the coronavirus crisis is over.

Although White has postponed three events himself, he seems intent on pressing ahead with his April 18 show at all costs.

Speaking on the “State of Combat” podcast on Tuesday, Arum accused White of having a flawed intelligence for trying to organise fights during a global crisis and expressed his belief that the UFC boss should be ashamed of himself, he said.

“[White] ought to be ashamed of himself. What’s going on in this country and the world with this virus, the last thing we need is for an event to take place with no spectators just to get the event to take place. But the truth is Dana White is somebody with a flawed intelligence.”

“He’s not going to move forward with the card, and if the card happens with people dying in hospitals all over the United States, he ought to be ashamed of himself. The message should be stay home and stand down until this is over. Let’s not spread the virus, let’s control the virus and do what we can to staff these hospitals and take care of people who go into intensive care.

“Let’s all be big people and big boys about it and stop the grandstanding. This will end when it ends, and it will end quicker if we all stick together and do what we are supposed to do, not go and shout from the rafters that, ‘I’m not a p*ssy and I’m going to put this fight on. I don’t care.’ That is absolutely the wrong message to send.” (Transcribed by CBS Sports)

Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III To Be Pushed Back Until October

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are likely to complete their trilogy of fights in October, according to promoter Bob Arum.

‘The Gypsy King’ emphatically stopped the American in seven rounds last month. Previously he was robbed on the judges’ cards as they had scored the first fight a draw in 2018.

The Top Rank boss told ESPN the original date of July 18 was no longer on the cards due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he said.

“Clearly not. We don’t even know if the MGM will even be open by then. You could not guarantee the fighters that the event would take place on that date. We couldn’t convince them or ourselves.

“Where were they going to train for it? It just made no sense. You just have to take a step back. How are you going to sell tickets? It’s absolutely ridiculous to say the fight is on when the Brits can’t even get there.

“So everybody has to take a step back. Boxing is not isolated. It’s part of what’s happening in the world,” Arum said. “So possibly the fight will be in early October.”

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been frustrated by this latest news. He now says his fighter could forgo an IBF defence against Kubrat Pulev and wait for the winner of the trilogy.

“Well, I think, all of a sudden, does the Joshua-Fury fight start taking priority, maybe over a Pulev fight, if the Pulev fight extends beyond the summer? There’s so much that could happen right now.

“I mean anything is possible, but contractually Deontay Wilder is going to want his fight next, whether that’s in July or whether there’s a force majeure that takes that to October, November wherever.”

Should Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III be postponed?
