Nate Diaz welcomes UFC return following Jake Paul boxing match I'll probably be back

Ahead of his incoming professional boxing debut this weekend in Dallas, Texas, former UFC championship challenger, Nate Diaz appears set to make just a brief outing in the sport, confirming plans again for an expected return to the Octagon.

Diaz, who spent the more recent tenure of his time with the Dana White-led promotion at the welterweight limit, once competed for undisputed lightweight championship spoils, as well as winning The Ultimate Fighter 5.

The Stockton veteran has been sidelined from combat sports since he headlined UFC 279 back in September of last year, most recently landed fourth round guillotine choke win over former interim lightweight titleholder, Tony Ferguson.

And making his professional boxing debut this weekend at the American Airlines Center in ‘The Lone Star State’, Diaz will take on the 6-1 professional puncher, Jake Paul, in his first venture inside the squared circle.

Nate Diaz eyes return to UFC following boxing match with Jake Paul

According to Diaz, however, it seems he will only make a cameo in the sport this weekend, with plans in place for him to make a return to the UFC in the immediate future.

“Yeah, probably,” Nate Diaz told MMA Fighting during a recent interview when asked if he would likely make an MMA return after his fight with Jake Paul. “I’m not thinking past this [fight on Saturday] right now. I said I’ll get that done and then know what I’m gonna do. I have ideas I’m committed to.”

“It’ll probably either be back in the UFC, or do something like this [points to a boxing ring] in an MMA style,” Nate Diaz continued.

Confirming his intentions to settle his rivalry with former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor in the form of a third clash and rubber-match, Diaz was also recently offered a route back to the promotion by former interim lightweight titleholder and UFC 291 headliner, Dustin Poirier – who expressed his willingness to fight the Californian.

Boxing star, Gervonta Davis claims he would stop Terence Crawford inside six round if the pair fought at the welterweight limit.

While boxing can be an extremely frustrating sport at times, it has produced some incredible moments over the past few months. The most meaningful of which took place this past weekend, when Crawford put his 147lb WBO title up against Errol Spence’s WBA, WBC and IBF titles in a undisputed clash for the ages.

Crawford, who was previously undisputed a super-lightweight, dominated the formerly unbeaten and pound-for-pound rated Spence. Dropping ‘The Truth’ three times, Crawford completely shut down Spence’s game landing accurate and spiteful shots before ultimately stopping his brave counterpart in the ninth round.

With the win, Crawford has gained the elite name that his undefeated record was needing and with such a brilliant performance, has proved himself as the man to beat.

Gervonta Davis convinced he would beat Terence Crawford

Another elite American talent, Davis, also earned the biggest win of his career when stopping Ryan Garcia in March. The 28-year-old seems to be beginning to hit the heights which many predicted for him, and he is absolutely brimming with confidence.

In fact, Davis is so confident that he evemn backs himself to not only beat, but stop the much bigger and moere experienced Crawford.

Talking on a Twitter space, when asked what a matchup between he and Crawford would looking like at welterweight, he did not hold back.

“147?”, Davis asked. “If I tap that chin, you know he going to sleep. He ain’t go not chance.

“I got round six.”

It is highly unlikely that this matchup will be made soon, if ever. Davis is still developing and it’s doubtful that his management/promotional teams would let him fight Crawford who would have a big size advantage.

Nate Diaz abandons face off with Jake Paul ahead of boxing match this weekend

Criticized earlier this month for his apparent lack of preparation in promoting his professional boxing debut against the outspoken, Jake Paul this weekend, former UFC lightweight and welterweight, Nate Diaz has again left an interview alongside the Ohio native – abandoning a face-off to promote their clash.

Diaz, a former lightweight title challenger under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from combat sports since he defeated recent feature and former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson in an impromptu welterweight headliner back in September of last year.

Slated to make his return to combat sports this weekend in Dallas, Texas, Diaz takes headlining honors at the American Airlines Center – taking on the aforenoted, Paul – in a professional boxing debut.

Nate Diaz abandons face-off with Jake Paul ahead of boxing match this weekend

Briefly abandoning a press event with Paul earlier this summer, during fight week, Nate Diaz failed to return to a face-off with Paul during a sitdown interview with DAZN Boxing

For Paul, the outspoken YouTuber and social influencer returns to professional boxing for the first time since he headlined a card in Saudi Arabia back in February of this year, suffering a split decision loss to reality television star and professional boxer, Tommy Fury – the half-brother of current undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury

In six victories on the trot since then, Paul would secure consecutive wins over the likes of Ben Askren, as well as former undisputed welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, and former undisputed UFC middleweight kingpin, Anderson Silva.

Over the course of his professional mixed martial arts career, Diaz has landed notable victories over the likes of Kurt Pellegrino, Josh Neer, Melvin Guillard, Takanori Gomi, Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller, Michael Johnson, Anthony Pettis, Tony Ferguson, and former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor

Nate Diaz Jake Paul fight

Stockton’s own Nate Diaz has been there and done that in the combat sports world and is not interested in fake antics to sell his fight with Jake Paul on August 5th.

The youtube sensation turned pro boxer Jake Paul has been very public with his disappointment in Diaz’s assistance in selling their fight. Paul arranged a press conference before the fight in hopes of capturing some viral moments on film, and Diaz showed up not looking to partake in drama or give the fans any ridiculous moments like the ones he is so known and loved for.

It makes sense, as the Diaz brand is built on authenticity. The brothers had a rough upbringing, and while they later on in life became famous for their attitudes and hilarious antics, none of those moments were staged. In Nate Diaz’s mind, Paul wants him to fake beef and give fans fake moments they can dramatize to help sell the fight. At this point in his legendary career, that’s just something Diaz is unwilling to do.

Nate Diaz speaks on his upcoming fight with Jake Paul and responds to the disappointment Paul has for his attempts to sell the fight

“That’s his problem,” Nate Diaz began, talking to ESPN. “I don’t really — I think my fighting promotes as it is, promotes my fights. I’m not gonna get into a little kid argument with the guy and act like we’re any realer than it is. It don’t get no realer than this anyway.”

“I don’t need to act like it’s … I don’t talk a bunch of s— like he wants to do, I don’t want to stay and talk s— and go back and forth. He said something about me at the press conference and I’m like, I wasn’t there for no argument. I didn’t even want to go to no press conference to argue with nobody. Like, if we’re gonna argue, we’re gonna fight. So lets just stay the f— away from each other until the fight. Pardon my language.”

Many think that Jake Paul has a few tricks up his sleeve for their fight week in Texas. Both Paul and Nate Diaz will be there for media scrums and other obligations, and many think Paul is going to purposefully try and antagonize Diaz to cause some viral moments. Wether or not this actually comes to fruition is yet to be seen.

“I’m ready for everything,” Diaz continued. “I’m ready to go to war right now and I’m ready to be cool until it’s time to fight. I don’t care. I’m at a point in my career where I’m not trying to scare anybody, I’m not trying to fool anybody. If people want to watch, that’d be great. If they don’t, that’s fine too. That’s where he got me twisted. I’m not in this gimmick fight with him. I only need him to know that I’ll whup his ass, I don’t need the whole world. I don’t need to go begging to watch. Don’t watch.”

The boxing community at large is actually of the stance that Diaz will essentially be a lamb getting led to slaughter when he and Paul fight on August 5th. They’ve been very critical of leaked sparring footage, and even Diaz’s own training partners aren’t too impressed with the MMA legend’s skills.

“It comes with the territory,” Nate Diaz said in response to this. “I know boxing dudes and boxing gyms, they’re kind of ignorant to things, a lot of boxers. Whenever I whup someone’s ass, I’m ‘tough,’ I’m ‘in good shape.’ I’m not ‘good.’ You know what I’m saying? But I’m just in better shape than every boxer that I ever sparred ever? Heh. So it comes with the territory, okay? It’s all good.”

Spence Jr., the current WBC, WBA, and IBF welterweight champion, currently boasts a stunning 28-0 professional record, most recently turning in a tenth round knockout win over Yordenis Ugas back in April of last year.

As for Crawford, the current WBO welterweight kingpin, lays claim to a spectacular 39-0 record as a professional, defending that title back in December of last year with a stunning sixth round KO win over David Avanesyan in Nebraska.

Spence Jr., on the other hand, is currently listed as a +140 betting underdog to become the first to defeat Crawford

Striking IBF welterweight spoils back in 2017, Spence Jr. landed a penultimate round knockout win over common-foe, Kell Brock, before retaining the title against Lamont Peterson, Carlos Ocampo, and Mikey Garcia, before adding WBC gold to his trophy cabinet with a decision win over Shawn Porter in 2019.

Returning to competition in 2020 following a brutal car crash the year prior, Spence defended his WBC and IBF titles with a unanimous decision win over Danny Garcia, before winning WBA gold against the aforenoted Cuban striker, Ugas.

Boasting a whopping 30 knockout victories from his 39 total career triumphs, Crawford minted himself as the WBO light welterweight champion in 2015, defeating Thomas Dulorme with a knockout victory in Arlington, Texas.

And in 2018, defeating Queensland puncher, Jeff Horn in a ninth round TKO success, Crawford defeated the former to win the WBO welterweight title. In successive successful title defenses next, Crawford has so far landed six championship retentions against Jose Banavidez Jr., Amir Khan, Egidijus Kavaliauskas, common-opponents, Kell Brook and Shawn Porter, before his December KO win against Avanesyan.

In terms of interesting prop bets available over at Betway, Spence Jr. is a whopping +650 betting underdog to defeat Crawford via knockout come Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Furthermore, Crawford on the other hand, is also available at +250 to defeat Spence Jr. via KO, TKO, or disqualification.

And in the ninth and tenth round – if the bout manages to make it to the latter stages, Spence Jr. can be backed at +3,300 to score a knockout win, if he is to finish the fight against Crawford.

An interesting prop bet available to players come in the form of Gone in 60 Seconds, with both Spence Jr. and Crawford available at +3,300 to dispatch each other inside the opening minute of their massive welterweight title unification clash this weekend in the desert – in one of the most heralded pairings to ever grace the squared circle.
