Former Bantamweight contender, Bryan Caraway, has been charged with multiple felonies. Included in these felonies is the theft of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) belonging to his ex-girlfriend, also a former UFC fighter and champion, Miesha Tate.

According to ESPN who obtained the prosecuting attorney’s charging document, Caraway was charged with the following.

“Fraud, first-degree attempted theft, filing a false insurance claim and making a false statement on a vehicle title in Benton (Washington) County.”

The case is allegedly focused around Caraway stealing Miesha Tate’s ATV, purchasing insurance on it and then reporting it stolen. ESPN reported that “Caraway initially was charged Jan. 12. He failed to appear in Benton County Superior Court, and a bench warrant for his arrest was issued Feb. 4. On Feb. 10, Caraway was placed on Benton County insurance commissioner Mike Kriedler’s insurance fraud most-wanted list, but he was removed after he contacted the prosecutor’s office.”

The report also reveals details in regards to Miesha Tate’s account of Caraway’s series of crimes. “Tate told investigators that she informed Caraway in December 2018 that she was going to be picking up her ATV. Caraway, Tate said, threatened to file a report that the vehicle was stolen. The report said Tate told investigators that she found out Caraway had allegedly altered and forged a title for the vehicle, and she reported that to the Richland (Washington) Police Department in December 2019” (via ESPN).

Bryan Caraway’s arraignment hearing is reportedly scheduled for March 11th.

Caraway left the UFC in 2019, having lost to Pedro Munhoz via TKO in 2018. He would fight once more following his departure from the UFC, at Battlefield FC 2. He won via unanimous decision against Raja Shippen. Tate has not fought since 2016, where she picked up consecutive losses to Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington.

What are your thought on Bryan Caraway being charged with these crimes?

It looks like former The Ultimate Fighter Season 14 (TUF 14) contestant Bryan Caraway has departed from the UFC.

Caraway recently took to his Instagram page to tease a fight announcement was coming up. However, nobody expected that fight to be outside of the UFC’s Octagon. The Body Lock’s John Hyon Ko confirmed on Twitter that Caraway will make his debut for the Battlefield FC promotion in July.

He’ll be facing Raja Shippen at Battlefield FC 2 in Macau, China. The action goes down on July 27:

The former Strikeforce and WEC veteran had been with the UFC since 2011. He racked up a record of 6-4 under the Las Vegas-based promotion’s banner. In his last two outings, however, Caraway was unable to pick up a victory. He was defeated by Cody Stamann via split decision in March of 2018.

He failed to bounce back at The Ultimate Fighter Season 28 Finale card in November, as he was TKO’d by Pedro Munhoz in the first round. Now, Caraway will attempt to regroup away from the bright lights of the UFC. He takes on Shippen, who is 18-11 as a pro with one Draw.

Shippen is on a four-fight win streak at the moment, three of those victories coming by way of first-round finish.

The final season of The Ultimate Fighter wraps up this evening as the TUF 28 Finale will crown the final two winners of the show’s history.

It all goes down in the city it started in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Pearl at the Palms will host the evening’s festivities that will include 13 fights in total.

A bantamweight fight with future title implications will keep the night going.

Much like his opponent, Pedro Munhoz is a solid veteran. He boasts a terrific 16-3 record and most recently took home a unanimous decision against Brett Johns at UFC 227.

Bryan Caraway has done just about all you can do in a division short of winning the title. At 34 years old he is looking to make one more push toward gold. He is coming off of a loss to Cody Stamann at UFC 222.

Round One

The fighters meet in the center of the Octagon with a flurry from both men. Caraway throwing the right hand early in round one. Munhoz with a fast one-two in retaliation. Caraway carrying his hands low as he moved forward and lands some big shots. Munhoz lands a hard left jab followed by a right hand. Caraway shoots for a takedown but Munhoz stuffs it and lands a knee that sends Caraway down. The ref steps in very quickly.

  •  Pedro Munhoz defeats Bryan Caraway via TKO at 2:29 of round one

Last night’s (Sat., March 3, 2018) UFC 222 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, was the first time controversial combat sports judge Adelaide Byrd had judged since her laughable score at last September’s Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing match, so it was hardly a surprise that the event featured some questionable split decisions in fights she was judging.

Three bouts she judged in total ended in split decisions, including a questionable 29-28 nod for women’s strawweight Ashley Yoder over Mackenzie Dern, and a 29-28 nod to Cody Stamann in his bantamweight match with Bryan Caraway, a score that was echoed by judge Sal D’Amato to give Stamann a win most media outlets had scored for Caraway.

The fact Byrd presided over the card was announced by Octagon commentator Jon Anik at the beginning of the Stamann vs. Caraway bout (where Anik said Canelo vs. Golvkin was in August 2016, for some reason), and it led to a hilarious exchange between Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Anik where they made fun of Byrd’s questionable past based on the Canelo vs. GGG decision. Check it out as transcribed by MMA Mania:

Anik: I can tell you boys, that one of the three judges for this fight is one Adalaide Byrd. First time judging since that controversial August 2016 decision in GGG vs. ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, so don’t shoot the messenger.

Rogan: We just both had a heart attack. Oh God, she was driving a Ferrari for that fight.

Daniel Cormier(laughs) Oh my goodness.

Rogan: She’s a nice lady though.

Cormier: She’s a great lady. The other day I saw her at The Ultimate Fighter… (laughs) She’s a very nice lady, let’s just leave it at that.

Rogan: She’s a very nice person. So is my mom, but I wouldn’t want her judging any fights.

Cormier: (Laughs) Oh my goodness, somebody get Joe Rogan! (Laughs) Somebody get Joe Rogan!

Rogan: My mom would be like, “Oh Canelo is handsome! I’ll give him the round.”

(They all laugh)

Then the conversation continued on later in the bout when ‘DC’ hinted that leaving this particular bout in the hands of the judges may not be a good idea:

Cormier: Leaving an impression in the judges’ minds is especially important. Especially… with…

(They all laugh)

Rogan: Don’t say it! Don’t say it! (laughs) We’ve given that lady enough problems.

Rogan caught himself in the second exchange, but the cat was out of the bag after he suggested Byrd was ‘driving a Ferrari’ for her score in the Canelo-Golovkin bout, a statement implying some nefarious connections to her heavily criticized scorecard.

She’s still back judging high-level fights, however, and based on last night’s results, no fighter who lets a contest go to the scorecards is safe.
