After Daniel Cormier was knocked out by Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 to lose the heavyweight title, many wondered what was next. He could retire, or if he wanted another fight the Miocic trilogy is there, as well as a possible Jon Jones trilogy.

According to Cain Velasquez, one of ‘DC’s’ friends, he believes the 40-year-old wants the Miocic trilogy.

“You know what, he really hasn’t told me what he wants to do, and I didn’t ask him,” Velasquez said to MMA Junkie. “It was somewhat close to his fight, and my prayers are with his family. He just lost his dad, so he’s in that whole state.

“I believe he wants to come back and fight Stipe. If he wants to do that, then I’m 100 percent behind him.”

The trilogy fight with Miocic would no doubt be an interesting fight for Daniel Cormier. He was having success in the fight and was up 30-27 on two of the judge’s scorecards entering the fourth round. Yet, he stopped using his wrestling and got rocked and finished on the feet.

For Cain Velasquez, he believes Daniel Cormier can beat Stipe Miocic and will be behind him if he decides to return again.

“I believe he can go out there and beat Stipe, for sure,” Velasquez said. “I think he has all the tools, and if he really wants to do that, he can, but he doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody, I don’t think, but this is a decision that he has to make, and he will. Once he does, whether he wants to not do it anymore or get that one fight again, I’m 100 percent behind him, and I’m always supporting him.”

But, the major question is, will Daniel Cormier fight again is a major one.

Daniel Cormier doesn’t believe Stipe Miocic should be considered the best heavyweight star in history.

The UFC light heavyweight champion is slated to fight UFC heavyweight champion in the main event of the upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view event.

During the UFC 226 media conference call this week, DC went on record by stating that although fighting Miocic will be the biggest challenge thus far in his pro-MMA career, he doesn’t think that Miocic is the best heavyweight star of all-time.

Instead, he believes that former UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez is. Obviously, fight fans could make the argument that DC is being biased due to the fact that he is good friends and training partner with Velasquez at AKA.

This will be a historic moment as in the past there has been no light heavyweight champion that has ever moved up to challenge the heavyweight champion.

“Stipe has proven that he can sustain his success and also we got to watch him from day one. You watched a guy that went to war with [Joey Beltran], Stipe went to war with him and as he continues to fight, you see him evolve. That’s why I’m fighting him.”

“This is the biggest fight of my career cause I’m fighting the heavyweight champ of the world,” Cormier said (transcript courtesy of MMANtt). “The most successful heavyweight champ in the world. I think Stipe is great. Do I think he’s the best heavyweight of all time? No. I still believe Cain Velasquez is but I do believe he’s the most successful heavyweight champion of all time. Yeah, it’s a big fight.

“I’ve been in a lot of big spots. I’ve fought Jones twice. I fought at UFC 200. I fought main events and Stipe has too, but I’ve fought in a lot of big, big spots and I believe this one ranks as high if not higher than everything I’ve ever competed at.”

UFC 226 is set to take place on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is reportedly in negotiations with the UFC to make a return at July’s UFC 200 event.

During the preliminary card of tonight’s (June 4, 2016) UFC 199 pay-per-view (PPV) event from Inglewood, California, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani confirmed that the current WWE superstar and once-heralded UFC top draw is very close to finalizing a deal to return at the blockbuster UFC 200 PPV on July 9 from the brand-new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Lesnar famously headlined the legendary UFC 100 PPV against fellow former heavyweight champion Frank Mir, battering his bitter rival en route to his first title defense and avenging his loss to Mir in the first fight of his UFC career in early 2008.

Following an unceremonious exit from the UFC after he lost the belt to Cain Velasquez and suffered a long bout with diverticulitis before losing to current UFC title contender Alistair Overeem at UFC 141, “The Beast Incarnate” was rumored for a UFC return last year in order to follow through on the time lost to his health issues. But he re-signed with WWE, citing a lack of the mental focus necessary to compete in the Octagon.

While Lesnar and the UFC are reportedy very close to finalizing a deal, his opponent is far from confirmed.

However, there’s one certain man who almost beat Lesnar in the Octagon who ironically wants to return to the UFC sometime soon.
