CB Dollaway will be on the sidelines for the next two years as he has received a suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

Word broke on Monday that Dollaway has been suspended after testing positive for multiple banned substances. The substances he tested positive for were anastrozole, growth hormone-releasing peptide 2 (GHRP-2 or pralmorelin), a metabolite of GHRP-2, and GHRP-6. Dolloway will not be eligible to return to action until after Dec. 13, 2020. Dollaway’s two-year period of ineligibility began on December 13, 2018.

USADA ultimately based his suspension on the date of the original failure, which is what kicked off his period of ineligibility. Dolloway issued the following statement on his official Instagram account.

“In light of the recent decision made by USADA to issue me a two year sanction, I want it to be very clear that I did not knowingly nor intentionally take any performance enhancing drugs,” Dollaway wrote on Instagram. “As many people close to me are aware, I suffered a serious back injury in 2016. With my insurance capped out, I needed to find alternative solution if I wanted to continue to compete in mixed martial arts.,

“I traveled to Mexico to have a stem cell procedure done and ended up coming into contact with the mentioned substances. I am sorry to let my friends, family and fans down. I want to personally thank Donna Marcolini, the VP of health and performance of the UFC, for her assistance and for believing in me. I will take this time to continue working on my health and hopefully be ready to come back in 2020 as a healthy athlete/fighter for the first time since 2016.”

He was last seen in competition when he suffered a TKO loss to Khalid Murtazaliev in Russia back in September 2018.

What do you make of Dollaway’s two-year suspension after testing for several banned substances?

There was some drama coming out the latest UFC pay-per-view event involving MMA Veteran Hector Lombard.

As seen on the preliminary card of Saturday’s (March 3, 2018) UFC 222 event on pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, there was some controversy. Lombard feels the referee made the wrong call to disqualify him during his bout against CB Dollaway on FOX Sports 1.

Now, Lombard plans to file an appeal for the decision to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

If you recall, Lombard was declared the loser by disqualification when Dollaway was cracked with a pair of punches that landed following the bell for the end of the first round.

This led to the referee stopping the fight as Dolloway was out of it and didn’t know what happened.

Lombard went on record after the event while speaking with the media that he was merely defending himself against an attack from Dollaway that came at the bell.

He believes the decision by the judges should be overturned.

“I feel like it should be a no contest,” Lombard told MMAjunkie on Sunday. I don’t see why (Dollaway) gets the win,” he said. “There’s a rule that you protect yourself at all times during the fight. If he throws a kick at me, I’m going to throw back.”

“I don’t see why (Dollaway) gets the win,” he said. “There’s a rule that you protect yourself at all times during the fight. If he throws a kick at me, I’m going to throw back. I don’t think I did anything wrong, and I don’t feel like I have to apologize to anybody,” Lombard said. “I just feel like he didn’t want to fight, and that’s not on me.”

UFC middleweight CB Dollaway was set to fight Francimar Barraso at UFC 203 in September of 2016 when an elevator he was in at the Wyndham Hotel in Cleveland malfunctioned, causing him permanent damage.

Dollaway (16-8) spoke with MMA Fighting about being sidelined for the majority of the last 17 months due to this incident, and how he is pursuing a lawsuit against the hotel due to the injuries suffered, which he says are permanent:

“There’s permanent damage. There’s no way to — it’s irreversible, essentially. I could go try to do a surgery or something, but my doctors have been like, ‘Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it,’ because they don’t know how that’s going to turn out. So it just is what it is, you know?”

Dollaway did compete against Ed Herman last July, but back injuries plagued him after that fight. It will have been almost nine months since he’s last stepped in the cage when he fights Hector Lombard at UFC 222 in March.

Dollaway was preparing for a light heavyweight fight when the hotel incident forced him out of UFC 203, but his time spent sidelined with injuries has forced him back to middleweight.

However, the 34-year-old isn’t ruling out another attempt at light heavyweight in the future:

“It just depends if I put the size back on, which, I imagine I will. It’s just going to take a little time. Putting on 10 or 15 pounds of muscle, it’s hard, especially with high cardio and everything we do,” Dollaway said. “But yeah, I fought that fight there (in July) and I just didn’t feel the same as I did before. Like, when I had originally moved up, I felt big, strong, I feel good. Then this time when I went in there, I didn’t feel like myself at that weight, so I was like it’s probably better to go back down to middleweight.

“I just want to make sure I’m healthy. At the end of the day, I’m not going to walk away from this sport with millions and millions of dollars, most likely, so you’ve got to make sure your body’s good when you leave the sport. I’m not going to rush back in and get permanently injured even more, so I’ve got to look out for myself a little bit.

“When you walk away (from the sport), are you going to be able to function? At the end of the day, I want to make sure I can still live a decent life when I’m done with it.”

How do you expect Dollaway to look against Lombard next month? Will the time off due to injuries affect his performance?

C.B. Dollaway Discusses Injuries from Elevator Accident, Return to UFC

C.B. Dollaway has revealed he has “permanent damage” from the elevator accident he suffered back in September 2016.

Dollaway said surgery is not an option to try to resolve the problem, per Shaun Al-Shatti of MMA Fighting. He’ll make his return to the sport’s middleweight division on March 3 for UFC 222, where he is set to meet Hector Lombard.

The 34-year-old was left with a back injury after being in a malfunctioning elevator at Cleveland’s Wyndham Hotel. He was out of action until July last year, but Dollaway explained how the injury has left more lasting damage:

There’s no way to—it’s irreversible, essentially. I could go try to do a surgery or something, but my doctors have been like, ‘Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it,’ because they don’t know how that’s going to turn out. So it just is what it is, you know?

Among the problems Dollaway faced during his recovery was weight loss, according to Al-Shatti. The fighter lost as much as “10-15 pounds.”

Al-Shatti noted how the weight loss scuppered Dollaway’s efforts in UFC’s light heavyweight division. While he’s dropping down a weight class, Dollaway still thinks he could eventually return to light heavyweight action:

It just depends if I put the size back on, which, I imagine I will. It’s just going to take a little time. Putting on 10 or 15 pounds of muscle, it’s hard, especially with high cardio and everything we do. But yeah, I fought that fight there (in July) and I just didn’t feel the same as I did before. Like, when I had originally moved up, I felt big, strong, I feel good. Then this time when I went in there, I didn’t feel like myself at that weight, so I was like it’s probably better to go back down to middleweight.”

Dollaway told Al-Shatti how he is pursuing litigation over the accident, having lost close to a year while being unable to compete. Naturally, he is mindful of being able to leave the sport in good health, despite his lasting injury woes.

However, Dollaway put those concerns aside to discuss his upcoming meeting with Lombard: “He’s a buzz saw. When you go out there, you know: The first round, you better be ready to get it, because he’s coming.”

Dollaway believes he can outlast the older Lombard, citing the 40-year-old’s lack of a “big gas tank.”

Beating Lombard would be a great confidence boost for Dollaway as he seeks to rebuild a career stunted by misfortune outside the Octagon. If he proves he can handle the rigours of the middleweight divsion, a return to a higher weight class may not be too far away.

The MMA world was dealt some disappointing news last night (Fri., September 9, 2016) when word arrived former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler was out of his anticipated slugfest with Donald Cerrone at November’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden.

“Cowboy” was then quick to offer his services to fill in for the injured CB Dollaway at light heavyweight at tonight’s UFC 203.

The reason “Ruthless” can’t fight is yet to be officially clarified, but fans are obviously out a fight that could have potentially been up there with the best fights of the year.

However, all hope is not lost. According to a report from The Las Vegas Post’s Mario Saunders, returning welterweight star Nick Diaz is apparently in negotiations to replace Lawler at the UFC’s debut show from NYC:

DiazInNegotationsAt205

If that is indeed the case, it’s impossible to deny that Diaz vs. Cerrone would be another absolute barnburner that MMA fans will be eagerly anticipating. The fight also comes with a built-in revenge angle, as Nick’s younger brother Nate famously picked Cerrone apart to win a decision at 2011’s UFC 141 after a bad blood-fueled buildup and a heated weigh-ins face-off.

Nick Diaz, who, despite not securing a win in the Octagon since October 2011 over an outsized and over-matched BJ Penn, remains one of the biggest and most recognizable names in MMA. That’s only grown in scope throughout his controversial 18-month suspension (which was reduced from a ridiculous five years) from the NAC for his latest marijuana offense, thanks in no small part to Nate’s heavily publicized feud with Conor McGregor.

Yet he’s also repeatedly stated he only wants to take on the biggest names in MMA, and reportedly eschewed the idea of a possible title fight with newly-crowned 170-pound champ Tyron Woodley. His last two fights were defeats at the hands of arguably the two greatest mixed martial artists of all time in Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre, and even though Cerrone remains one of the biggest fan favorites in the UFC, he may or may not be big enough for Diaz’s own personal scale.

Now it could be Nick’s turn to take the reigns for the Diaz brothers and throw down with ‘Cowboy’ in a fight that would have the entire sport buzzing.
