UFC 205 goes down on November 12, and will arguably be one of the biggest events of all-time for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the pay-per-view extravaganza will mark the first UFC event in New York. After learning of the incredible star-studded line up in recent weeks, it’s the clear the promotion is pulling out all the stops for the Big Apple debut. Who sits at the top of the UFC 205 pile? None other than lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and featherweight boss Conor McGregor, and they’re fighting each other.

Causing a huge division in opinion, Alvarez’s first lightweight title defense against McGregor has also brought out the best and worst in fellow fighters. One very common opinion was that MMA was heading down the direction of boxing. Money rules the game, and certain sects of both fans and fighters find this very negative. Following the initial wave of reactions, UFC welterweight and lightweight Donald Cerrone has some interesting opinions.

Cowboy

Also fighting at UFC 205, Donald Cerrone was on stage at the infamous UFC 205 press conference last week. After sitting through another episode of the Conor McGregor show, ‘Cowboy’ revealed the Irish star had turned down two fights against him. Furthering these comments in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Cerrone says the rest of the fighters have a dislike for McGregor. So much is the tension that, according to Cerrone, McGregor has to be kept separate from everyone else backstage:

“They line us all up in a line, but they take Conor and they put him off in another room because he can’t be around the other fighters because we don’t play that (expletive). behind the scenes he’s like a scared little kid.”

“He’s not one of the fellas, he’s not a good dude. It is what it is. He does a good job promoting the sport, he does a good job of making money. So I can’t hate the guy for that, but just as a person I ain’t a fan.”

Not My Buddy, Guy

Although he sees McGregor as the class clown, Cerrone acknowledges the good he’s done for the sport:

“He brings a lot of people, so my hat’s off to him for that,” added Cerrone, “but just like hang with him like a fella, no, he’d never be my buddy.”

Will Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone ever fight? Given their recent tendency of fighting in multiple weight classes and their constant rivalry, why the heck not?

Donald Cerrone Disputes The Existence Of Red Panty Night

Former UFC and WEC lightweight title contender Donald Cerrone made a smooth transition up to welterweight in Fenbruary, defeating fellow ‘Cowboy’ Alex Oliveira with a slick triangle choke. After a failed 155-pound title attempt against Rafael dos Anjos in December of last year, the nine-year UFC/WEC veteran decided he’d try his luck at 170 pounds.

After a failed 155-pound title attempt against Rafael dos Anjos in December of last year, the nine-year UFC/WEC veteran decided he’d try his luck at 170 pounds. Now set to face Patrick Cote at this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 89, Cerrone recently teased a potential move to middleweight in the future.

Cerrone’s willingness to take short notice fights against anyone, anytime saw him compete 12 times in the UFC octagon between January 2013 and December 2015. Wins over Benson Henderson and Eddie Alvarez highlight ‘Cowboy’s’ 16-4 promotional record.

Cowboy Cerrone

Talking during a live Facebook Q&A this week, Donald Cerrone addressed a number of interesting questions from fans, and also some ‘keyboard warriors.’ First up he made a prediction for the welterweight main event in Ottawa between Rory MacDonald and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson:

“I think Wonderboy is going to win (the main event vs. MacDonald). I think he’s going to take it, I really do, that’s a fight I’d be interested in facing the winner of. I don’t know if I’m going to stay at 170 or go back to 155, but I know I’m going to stay fighting, I love it, it’s what I enjoy doing; kicking ass.”

On Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt at UFC 200 and GSP’s return:

“If Mark (Hunt) gets a hold of him, I think he’s going to put him to sleep. But if Brock (Lesnar) goes out there and wrestles him he’s going to take it to the ground…I also think GSP is going to make a comeback, I hear there’s works for him to come back at 185. Should be fun, I really like him.”

Cerrone also got asked a number of questions about UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, which you can find on the next page.

Donald Cerrone Has Nothing Nice To Say About Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight Donald Cerrone is expected to face Patrick Côté at UFC Fight Night 89 on June 18, as the promotion heads to Ottawa, Canada for the first time. ‘Cowboy’ got back to winning ways with a win over Alex Oliveira in February, making him 9-1 in his last 10, the only loss being a brutal beat down at the hands of Rafael dos Anjos last December. The bout against ‘The Predator’ will go down at welterweight, as it appears dos Anjos took the last of the goods Cerrone had to offer at 155 pounds.

Another fighter making an extended foray to the UFC welterweight division is the featherweight champion Conor McGregor. ‘The Notorious’ recently put his newly captured 145-pound belt on hold to face ‘RDA’ for the lightweight strap at UFC 196, but ended up facing Nate Diaz in an impromptu yet thrilling 170-pound burner. Everything about the fight, and pre fight was gold. It seems the UFC had found a perfect combination, and it had fallen upon them by accident.

Conor vs. Diaz

Cerrone reveals that he was asked if he would accept the fight with McGregor before the UFC had decided on Diaz, but that he eventually never got the call:

“Apparently I wasn’t close enough – I didn’t get the call. They called me and asked if I would say yeah. I even said I would take it at 155 (pounds). I was willing to make 155 no problem and fight him. But it just didn’t work out.”

Donald Cerrone wants to bring UFC lightweight title fight to ...

Diaz would put an end to the fairy tale streak of McGregor, submitting him and pointing out the glaring gaps in the Irishman’s ground game. Cerrone was watching, and was not impressed by what he saw. As he tells MMAJunkie.com, he was also not surprised (motherf*ckers) to see Nate Diaz get the victory:

“I wasn’t surprised at all,” Cerrone said. “That’s how I would have fought. I would have went in there and took his ass down and submitted him right away. I’m not even going to start on the (expletive) (expletive).”
