As for Jung, the Pohang native has been sidelined since he suffered a fourth round standing TKO loss to common-foe and undisputed champion, Alexander Volkanovski back in April of last year in Jacksonville, Florida.

And given his dominant performances against opposition outside of Volkanovski, Holloway has emerged as a stunning -800 betting favorite to defeat Jung over on Betway, with the South Korean placed as a +500 betting underdog to beat the Hawaiin in this weekend’s Singapore main event.

Landing interim featherweight spoils back in 2016 with a TKO win over former lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, Holloway would unify and then defend the titles in a pair of championship outings against Brazilian favorite, Jose Aldo.

In a pair of other title defenses, Holloway took out common-foes, Brian Ortega, and former lightweight gold holder and future Hall of Fame inductee, Frankie Edgar.

And despite suffering three successive title fights to Australian rival, Volkanovski over the course of their series during their respective UFC tenures, in between an eventual rubber-match, Holloway would turn in decision wins over perennial division challengers, Calvin Kattar, and former interim champion, Yair Rodríguez.

A former WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) favorite, Jung, a true sport veteran, and akin to Holloway, a fan-favorite, has twice failed in his bid to become a featherweight champion on two separate occasions.

Expected to seriously consider his fighting future off the back of this weekend’s return to Asia for the promotion, Jung has turned in recent impressive wins over the likes of Dan Ige, Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano, Dustin Poirier, Mark Hominick, and Dennis Bermudez.

Also of note on the event’s main card, former light heavyweight champion, Anthony Smith is currently priced at +100 to defeat the surging, Ryan Spann for the second time in his career over on Betway as part of the event’s co-headliner, with the latter a current -125 betting favorite.

Another intriguing clash on the main card of this weekend’s Kallang card comes in the form of a potential flyweight title eliminator between former championship challenger, Taila Santos, and the surging, Erin Blanchfield.

Yet to return since suffering a close decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko at the same venue last year, Santos is closing as a +110 betting underdog to defeat New Jersey wrestling and grappling talent, Blanchfield, who is available as a -137 favorite on Betway to emerge with a win – and likely earn he first title fight since arriving in the promotion from the Shannon Knapp-led Invicta FC.

Holloway, who entered last night’s main event clash with Ipswich native, Allen as the #2 ranked featherweight contender behind just interim titleholder and former foe, Yair Rodríguez – managed to defend his rank in a one-sided decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) win over Allen.

Bouncing back to the winner’s enclosure, Hawaii fan-favorite, Holloway had dropped a one-sided judging loss of his own against current undisputed champion, Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 276 back in July of last year during International Fight Week – suffering his third career loss to the Australian.

Adding to recent victories over top contenders like Rodriguez and Calvin Kattar in recent years with last night’s win over Allen, Holloway has suggested he faces fellow perennial featherweight, Jung at a rumored return to Australia for the promotion later this annum.

“‘The Korean Zombie’ (Chan Sung Jung) – that is the only guy – that is the only guy from my time with the older guys, that I didn’t get to fight,” Max Holloway told assembled media following UFC Fight Night Kansas City. “I would love that fight. There’s a fight in my man’s – my agent’s (Tim Simpson) freakin’ country – Australia. When is it? Australia is supposed to be happening – sometime.”

“If ‘Korean Zombie’ wants it, he can get it,” Max Holloway explained. “I would love to fight him – that’s one of the guys I’ve been growing up and watching. I’m kinda trippin’ out how we didn’t fight yet. How did we not fight? If that’s one of the guys, then that’s one of the guys. I would love to fight, and share the Octagon with him. He’s one of the O.G.s that I didn’t get to fight yet. We came up in the same era and like, and we didn’t fight each other. So, if that’s it, that’s it.”

Chan Sung Jung, popularly known as ‘The Korean Zombie,’ will need to find a new spot to train, at least temporarily.

Jung last took to the octagon against the current UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski in April at UFC 273. Former division title holder Max Holloway was initially lined up for Volkanovski, but Jung was found as the replacement after Holloway was forced to withdraw from the bout.

Volkanovski handily dispatched Jung in the fourth round after dominating him throughout the contest.

The Korean Zombie forced to close gym after rain storm flooding

‘The Korean Zombie’ got back to the drawing board as he recovered from the damage sustained by his latest loss. His training will need to be put on a halt for now, as a natural mishap ruined his previous facilities. A rain storm ended up flooding his gym, which now needs to be repaired.

Jung shared the news on his Instagram account, writing: “I think I should close the gym for a while. I’ll have it restored as soon as possible. We will announce as soon as possible to operate. Thank you for your understanding.”

It was not only Jung who suffered as the record rainfall caused deadly flooding in Seoul, killing at least eight people, according to CNN. He posted follow-up stories of the gym and it appeared that he had already started cleaning up the place. However, restoration work would remain still to get everything back in working condition.

Jung’s toughness and incredible durability made him a fan favorite. ‘The Korean Zombie’ hinted at retirement but eventually decided against it following the defeat to Volkanovski. He has been competing in the UFC for over a decade, having started his pro career in 2007 before making his debut in the promotion in 2011.

Kattar, the current #5 ranked featherweight contender, was defeated last time out in the main event of UFC Austin back in June, battling over the course of five rounds in a close split decision loss against Josh Emmett. The ‘Lone Star State’ main event earned both Kattar and Emmett a Fight of the Night bonus.

As for Jung, the faltering veteran suffered a hugely one-sided, eventual fourth round knockout loss to featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski back in April in the main event of UFC 273. And has noted his interest in one final outing in his native South Korea before a career swansong.

Speaking on some movement on his client, Kattar’s next fight, Chartier floated a potential matchup against Jung – which he described as “fun”, as well as claiming fight negotiations with Ipswitch technician, Allen were becoming more and more “frustrating”.

“The ‘Zombie’ fight is fun,” Tyson Chartier told MMA Junkie during a recent interview. “They’re both (Calvin Kattar and Chan Sung Jung) coming off losses. He’s already been resting a little bit. We probably don’t need as long of a rest, so I think the timeline matches up. Arnold Allen is not even worth trying to book.”

“We’ve been offered him before, we accepted, it was a frustrating fight to try to book. It seems like he’s (Arnold Allen) always either injured or wants to go on vacation or a concert with his girlfriend, or I don’t know. But he called us out and we said yes, we’ll fight you in 10 weeks, and he said, ‘Well, that’s not long enough.’”

“So we want to fight real fighters,” Tyson Chartier said of Calvin Kattar’s future. “I’m not saying he’s (Allen) not a real fighter, but if you can’t be ready to fight in 10 weeks coming off a win, then maybe you’re in the wrong sport. I don’t know. It’s frustrating.”

“So, yeah, we’ll see. I think the ‘Zombie’ fight makes a lot of sense. I think it’s a fun fight, he’s a banger, he’ll probably try and wrestle us a little bit. Calvin has shown that he has good takedown defense, so then that means it turns into a nice Calvin Kattar fight.”

Jung, the current #5 ranked featherweight in the official division stack, headliner UFC 273 back in April in Jacksonville, Florida – suffering an eventual fourth round strikes loss against defending undisputed champion, Alexander Volkanovski.

The defeat came as Jung’s second from his three most recent Octagon walks, following a prior damaging loss at the hands of fellow two-time title chaser, Brian Ortega.

In his most recent victory, the Busan-born contender defeated Dan Ige in a UFC Vegas 29 back in June of last year.

In the immediate aftermath of his UFC 273 defeat against Volkanovski, Jung flirted with a potential retirement from the sport, questioning if he had what it takes to ever lift featherweight gold under the UFC banner.

However, almost two months on from his comprehensive loss against Volkanovski, Jung has sights set on securing “one more fight” – as well as urging the UFC to land its Octagon in Seoul for a homecoming event for him.

“Perhaps I’m old, maybe I’m not good enough, so my goal was to always show everything in every fight, but I didn’t show up every time, so that is why I’m still here,” Chan Sung Jung wrote in Korean on his official Instagram account. “I couldn’t prove it in the last fight, and I’m especially disappointed.”

“This is not an excuse for the loss,” Chan Sung Jung explained. “I just have some regrets. I’m not saying that it wasn’t 100 percent me, but I think it is right to put on a performance that I believe in, so that is why I want one more fight. I can’t set any long-term goals.
