The results are now in and another great night of UFC action was capped off by an a surprising result in the semi-main event of Charlie Brenneman vs. Rick Story and an unbelievable main event from heavyweights Cheick Kongo and Pat Barry.
Kongo was able to weather what appeared to be a sure knockout coming from Barry midway through the first round only to answer with an absolutely astonishing uppercut of his own to put Barry unconsciously on his back.
But sometimes the simple “wins” and “losses” in the record books don’t tell the whole story. As we’ll look at in this slideshow, some of the biggest “winners and losers” from tonight’s UFC on Versus 4 card did not end up with that designation on their official records.

UFC Live on Versus 4 has just come to a close, and it could not have ended in a more climactic fashion.
Cheick Kongo vs Pat Barry was promoted to the main event of the evening yesterday when the initial main event between Nate Marquardt and Rick Story was scrapped at the last minute.
Many fans were disappointed by this news, and so it was important for the new main event between Kongo and Barry to deliver some excitement, and it did just that.
This fight had a lot of potential because both men are excellent kick boxers, and tonight, fight fans saw that potential come to fruition.
The fight started off relatively tentative, with both fighters respecting each others skills and power.
Barry was getting the better of the striking at the start of the first round, but both men were landing. In particular, they traded a lot of heavy leg kicks.
Later in the first, Barry had Kongo moving back toward the cage when he hit him with a huge shot.
Kongo dropped immediately, and it looked like the fight was going to be over.
Pat swarmed on Cheick, throwing more bombs, and a couple times, it looked like Kongo might actually be out; Dan Miragliotta was definitely very close to stopping the fight multiple times.
To Cheick’s credit, he kept moving despite being rocked and showed enough resolve to keep the referee from stopping it.
Eventually, Kongo made it back to his feet and while still on very wobbly legs, landed two big right hands that knocked Barry unconscious.
Immediately after the fight Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan were both toting this fight as the greatest comeback in UFC history.
This is a giant win for Cheick. Due to his inability to defeat top level opponents, he had been labeled the heavyweight division’s gatekeeper. Tonight he showed the world that he isn’t happy with that position and that he is capable of much more.
Expect to see Kongo facing off against a top level opponent next time you see him in the Octagon.

Matt Brown, on the other hand, is like the Energizer Bunny and turned his attack up when he felt the give in his opponent.
Granted, he didn’t turn a blatant advantage into much of anything on the scorecard. In fact, he got swept on the ground before slapping on a messy omoplata before the final horn. Tough round to score because neither man did much of anything in the way of offense and, though the Immortal registered the takedown, he didn’t do anything of consequence with it.
Still, I’ve gotta give the second round to Brown by the same 10-9 margin as the first.

Matt Mitrione completely handled Chistian Morecraft standing, scoring two knockdowns in the first round; Morecraft was clearly flash-KO’d during the second knockdown, but he managed to regain his senses when Mitrione pounced on him, and held on to the end of the round. Mitrione showed more of the same striking dominance in the second frame. Aside from a successful Morecraft takedown, it was all Meathead, who battered Morecraft until a very impressive three-punch walk-off knockout. Mitrione def. Morecraft via KO, 4:28 of round 2. Great performance.
– Matt Brown beats John Howard via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3) after a gritty grind of a fight that saw Howard opt for a (mostly ineffective) wrestling-based gameplan, and Brown win most of the standup and ground exchanges. Brown breaks his three-fight losing streak and saves his job.
Rick Story vs. Charlie Brenneman
Round 1: Brennerman comes forward to clinch, Story flips him to the mat, but Brenneman is quickly back on his feet. Brenneman separates and runs off to get some distance. Brenneman clinches. Story turns him against the fence and drops low, looking for a takedown. Brenneman defends and escapes. Now it’s Brenneman’s turn to shoot for a takedown. Story is briefly on the mat, but he recovers. Brenneman fires a straight right that lands flush, and immediately transitions into a takedown. Brenneman moves to side control. Story establishes guard and locks Brenneman down. Brenneman with punches to Story’s ribs. Story is content to just hang on while Brenneman racks up points. Brenneman shoulder-shrugs Story into the mat. Brenneman goes body/head from the top. Story does not get the standup he was looking for, and the round ends. 10-9 Brenneman.
Round 2: Brenneman gets a quick takedown. Story tries to scramble out, but Brenneman stay on him. Story grabs a guillotine and rolls to north/south on the bottom, but Brenneman escapes. Story flies forward with a knee that bounces off Brenneman’s chin. Brenneman swings a hook and comes in with another takedown that scores. Story works some rubber guard for a moment. Story heel-chopping Brenneman’s leg off his back. Story goes for a guillotine again. Brenneman tries to pass to side control but Story gets his guard back. Story loses the hold. Brenneman rides the round out on top. 10-9 for the Spaniard. Man, is Story’s six-fight win streak going to end like this?
Round 3: Both guys throwing uppercuts and looking for the takedown. Brenneman scores with the single leg. Story looking for a kimura. The referee breaks them and Joe Rogan blasts the standup. They start firing wild punches, and Brenneman grabs a leg in a scramble. Story manages to set up an inverted triangle. Brenneman lucks out when Story can’t finish it. But Story transitions to full mount and starts bouncing Brenneman’s head off the mat with short slams. Brenneman escapes and grabs Story’s legs. And that’s the fight. Wow. Nate Marquardt didn’t just fuck his own career, he fucked Story’s as well. And now Charlie Brenneman is a contender, I guess?

Cheick Kongo def. Pat Barry
Barry circles the Octagon, spitting water all over the mat. Kongo has Rampage Jackson with him for the walkout. Kongo has a 7.5-inch reach advantage, and a significant beard advantage. Big Dan Miragliotta whispers something to Pat Barry. Probably something like “watch your balls against this guy.” Pat Barry weighed in heavier, which is kind of crazy when you see them in the face-off.
Round 1: Barry with a leg kick. Barry shoots in, Kongo brushes him off and throws a leg kick. Hard leg kick from Kongo. And again. Ouch. More kicks from Kongo, and Barry is hesitant to return. Pat Barry throws a right hand that catches Kongo behind the ear and drops him. Barry fires down some ridiculous ground and pound, but Kongo stumbles to his feet. Barry overwhelms him with punches. Kongo somehow survives and escapes again. But he’s completely dazed. Barry comes in to finish the job, Kongo catches him with two hard right hands and Pat Barry is dead alseep.
Joe Rogan calls it the most amazing comeback he’s ever seen. Holy shit. Legendary.
A couple minutes later, Barry is still on his back. Hopefully he’s up by the time we return from commercial. Barry is on his feet for the result announcement. Kongo def. Barry via knockout, 2:39 of round 1.

Matt Mitrione’s three-punch knockout of Christian Morecraft looked like a sure-fire bonus winner. But Cheick Kongo had a little something to say about that.
UFC president Dana White announced the bonus winners via Twitter following the promotion’s Pittsburgh debut, which took place at the Consol Energy Center.
Kongo’s knockout is already being talked about as perhaps the biggest comeback in UFC history. Barry rocked Kongo, knocking him down and pouncing to land several more shots. Referee Dan Miragliotta jumped in and nearly waved the fight off, but pulled back when he saw Kongo was attempting to stand up. Moments later, Kongo hit Barry with a pair of rights, the second of which put Barry’s lights out.
Lauzon made quick work of Curt Warburton on the preliminary card with a first-round kimura submission, just 1:58 into the frame. The Submission of the Night bonus is Lauzon’s fifth straight post-fight bonus award and sixth in seven fights.
And in another prelim fight, Oliveira submitted Lentz with a second-round rear-naked choke. But it was a back-and-forth first round that likely earned it Fight of the Night honors. Lentz fended off multiple submission attempts from Oliveira in the first round, and the two traded kicks and knees on the feet. Lentz nearly went out from an Oliveira guillotine, but survived and landed a guillotine of his own, though he couldn’t finish it.
That fight, though, was controversial thanks to an illegal knee to a downed Lentz that was missed by the referee. With Lentz’s right knee down, Oliveira, who had been throwing knees in the second round and landing with regularity, threw one that connected to Lentz’s head – and likely did enough damage to help lead to Oliveira’s fight-ending choke. Though the fight is a submission win for Oliveira on the books now, Joe Rogan announced in the cage following the bout that the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission will review the fight, specifically the knee incident, and could overturn Oliveira’s victory to a no contest.

One of the most shocking endings in UFC history took place in the main event of Sunday night’s UFC Live card, as Pat Barry appeared to poised to knock Cheick Kongo out with several brutal punches — only to have Kongo recover and knock Barry cold with a brutal uppercut of his own.
If you didn’t see it, you wouldn’t believe it: This looked like something choreographed for a movie, not a real mixed martial arts competition.
Kongo and Barry traded hard kicks early in the first round, but they were feeling each other out more than anything else in the first two minutes. However, at the 2:15 mark of the first round, Barry connected with a huge right hook to the side of Kongo’s head, knocking Kongo sprawling to the canvas.
Barry pounced and landed a few more punches, and referee Dan Miragliotta appeared to be about to step in and stop the fight. Kongo, however, somehow managed to stagger back up to his feet — only to have Barry land another huge right hand that knocked Kongo down again. UFC announcers Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan both screamed “He’s out!” when Kongo went down the second time.
But Kongo wasn’t out. He held onto Barry just long enough to regain his composure, got back to his feet, and then landed two enormous right hands of his own, the second one knocking Barry unconscious. That was it.
“It was perfect,” Kongo said of his punch. “I just saw the opportunity to give it to him. I saw the opportunity to finish this fight, at this moment, with one shot.”
The fight lasted just 2 minutes, 39 seconds, and the real action only lasted about 30 seconds — but it might have been the most thrilling half a minute in UFC history. This was a stunner.
