Ahead of his return at UFC 270 next month, heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has claimed that sparring footage released featuring himself and brief former teammate, interim champion, Ciryl Gane shows how good the MMA Factory Paris team is at “manipulation”.

Ngannou, who most recently headlined UFC 260 in March, seized the undisputed heavyweight throne with a second round thunderous knockout win over former two-time champion, Stipe Miocic in the pair’s title re-run.

However, scheduling conflicts prevented the Batié native from returning in August or September for a title rematch with recent headliner, Derrick Lewis, resulting in the introduction of an interim title.

Eventually scooped by the aforenoted, Gane in a third round knockout win over Lewis at UFC 265 in August – the undefeated Frenchman had set up an eventual unification clash with former teammate, Ngannou.

Francis Ngannou shares his thoughts on sparring footage between him and Ciryl Gane

The Cameroonian, who currently plys his trade at Extreme Couture in Las Vegas alongside head coach, Eric Nicksick, has a frosty relationship with past head trainer, Fernand Lopez to say the least. And believes sparring footage which has become more and more prominent of him and Gane recently, shows how manipulative the Paris-based team are at portraying Gane as the superior fighter of the two from the brief clip.

When I saw the footage, my first reaction was laughing – because I know exactly what happened at those training sessions,” Francis Ngannou said on his YouTube channel. “But this is the thing: When they want to do some highlight, they always choose the part of the video that they use and they have a lot of videos like that because at the time, they were filming our training sessions to promote him (Ciryl Gane), his fight, and everything. So there was a lot of footage from those few training sessions, but a lot them never came out and will never come out, and I know for a fact that they will never come out.

It’s about to make him (Gane) look better and make me look bad – to prove that he’s the man,” Francis Ngannou explained. “I really get intrigued by (that) stuff sometimes and then how they just control people’s mind, conditioning them to think – and suddenly they just shift from one way to other way of thinking. And I’m like, how easy is that to manipulate people?… They’re really good at manipulation. But at the end of the day, as I said, we both know. Everyone knows for a fact.

Whilst Ngannou has taken umbrage with the manner in which his training footage with Gane was portrayed, he still maintains his upcoming opponent is going to continue evolving in years to come, and become an even better fighter.

He’s (Gane) good and he’s just going to get better,” Ngannou said. “He’s good. He’s talented, that’s for sure, and that’s the reason why he’s there, where he’s at. Right now? I’m just better, man, I’m just the man that’s going to stop the hype, and I can’t wait to get to this fight because what’s really funny about this is everybody that talks about this fight hype him up.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Francis Ngannou Denies Trying To Stop The UFC Signing Ciryl Gane

Francis Ngannou has responded to the claim that he tried to stop the UFC from signing his former teammate turned heavyweight rival, Ciryl Gane.

‘The Predator’ will attempt to unify the heavyweight division against the interim champ, Gane, at UFC 270 on January 22.

According to Fernand Lopez of MMA Factory, this is a situation Ngannou was desperate to avoid a few years ago.

“At the time (the start of Ngannou’s career), what I was doing was that every time they (MMA Factory fighters in the UFC) had an interview, I will ask them to drop the name of Francis Ngannou; name-drop him,” Lopez said in November on The MMA Hour. “So every time that they will get caught in an interview, they will say, ‘Oh, we have so much good talent, you will know, soon enough you will know Francis Ngannou.’ That’s how I was trying to build his name… That’s how I used to push guys.

“As a matter of fact, I did do the same for Ciryl Gane… I tried to sign him with Mick Maynard,” Lopez added. And you know what, Francis went back to Vegas and he said to me, ‘Hey, I had Mick and he asked me if young guy in my gym name Ciryl Gane is good.’ And I said, ‘Oh yeah, he did? He said, ‘Yes, but you know what, because that people in the matchmaking, because they expect me to be very, very dithyrambic on the name of the guy, I didn’t say that, I said he’s a little bit good, but he’s not good yet to go to the UFC.’ That’s coming from Francis Ngannou’s mouth. For him, that’s a strategy to do not have Mick Maynard get suspicious of me and him being on the same page, which is not true.”

Francis Ngannou Refutes The “Evil” Claim

Ngannou posted a video to his YouTube account which focused on his sparring sessions with Gane while also taking the time to deny the claim made by his former coach.

“And recently, I saw something about him. They sent me something like, which his coach said about me – Fernand [Lopez] – He said I told [UFC matchmaker] Mick [Maynard] that Ciryl is good but not that good or something like that. I’m like, ‘Man. This, like; this nasty.’ You know, this is not a fair game anymore. It’s not a fair game anymore. Like, I understand this position is not; you want to take everything, you want to destroy somebody. But to go after him like that, associate other people; I mean, I think this is evil. You know, but I know the man, and I know how it processed.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane

UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou doesn’t recognize Ciryl Gane as the interim titleholder and believes the Frenchman’s belt is illegitimate.

After 2018 defeats to Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis stalled his rise, Ngannou hit the form of his life. In four fights, “The Predator” recorded four first-round knockouts against Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik, totaling less than four minutes inside the Octagon.

After earning a rematch with Miocic, Ngannou didn’t let the consensus greatest UFC heavyweight of all time evade his power for a second time. In the UFC 260 main event, the Cameroonian brutally slept the veteran in the second round, securing his place on the heavyweight throne. But while he found his success, another product out of Paris’ MMA Factory gym was forging his own path to the top.

In 10 professional fights since his 2018 debut, Ciryl Gane has remained undefeated, made his way to the UFC, defeated the likes of dos Santos, Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov, and Derrick Lewis, headlined two UFC Fight Night cards and one pay-per-view, and had interim gold wrapped around his waist.

“Bon Gamin” will now look to dethrone his former teammate in a blockbuster unification bout set for UFC 270 early next year.

Ngannou: “I’m The Undisputed Champion”

Despite Gane’s interim title success, the controversy surrounding the promotion’s decision to create the belt is hard to forget. That’s especially the case for Ngannou. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, “The Predator” suggested he doesn’t recognize the #15-ranked men’s pound-for-pound fighter’s gold as “legitimate.”

“I don’t recognize (Gane’s) belt,” Ngannou said. “I’m the undisputed heavyweight champion. (Gane’s belt) isn’t legitimate, it is a replacement. The presence of the champion makes the interim title invalid. And I’m here.”

The UFC chose to create an interim title despite Ngannou’s willingness to defend his belt for the first time in September, just six months after his crowning. The promotion’s eagerness to have Lewis headline the UFC 265 pay-per-view in Houston was enough for the new title to be created, something which has been extremely advantageous for Gane.

Nevertheless, the goal remains the same for Ngannou. He wants to cement his status as the one true heavyweight kingpin by defeating every contender in the weight class, starting with “Bon Gamin” on January 22.

“I want to be the one, the only one, on top of the division. That means I have to take everyone else out… I have what it takes to shut up everyone in the division,” Ngannou said. “I’m going to make a statement on January 22.”

Who do you think will leave UFC 270 as the undisputed heavyweight king, Francis Ngannou or Ciryl Gane?

Derrick Lewis Feels Recent Win Didn’t ‘Erase’ Loss To Ciryl Gane

Derrick Lewis hasn’t stopped thinking about his loss to Ciryl Gane just yet.

Despite a highly successful first-round stoppage win against Chris Daukaus in the main event of UFC Vegas 45, Lewis hasn’t put his recent defeat to Gane in the past.

Lewis returned to the win column on Saturday with his win over Daukaus. Before then, he was finished in an interim UFC heavyweight championship bout against Gane at UFC 265. The fight over the summer was a hard loss for Lewis, as he was nearly shut out by Gane before getting stopped in the third round.

Lewis was asked if his recent win “erased” his title-fight loss during Saturday’s post-fight press conference. In response, Lewis mentioned the location of the fight as an important factor.

“I think it really didn’t erase anything because I prefer to get the win in Houston than get the win in the APEX. So it didn’t erase anything. I’m still [gonna] be thinking about it at night.”

What’s Next For Lewis?

If Lewis wants to pick up a win in front of his home state of Texas, he might be able to do so early next year. UFC is currently planning on hosting an event (UFC 271) on February 12th from Houston. When asked if he would want to get on that card, he said he would take a fight if it is only three rounds.

The win on Saturday night put Lewis back on the right track. The win showed his ability to stop the fast-rising momentum of Daukaus, becoming the first man to beat him in a UFC fight through five bouts.

Lewis has now won four of his last five bouts. This includes a notable upset victory over Curtis Blaydes from the start of this year.

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou will be fighting for more than his title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270. According to UFC president Dana White, he may be fighting for his future with the promotion.

Ngannou will face Gane for his first title defense at UFC 270 on the first pay-per-view of 2022 on Jan. 22. This after earning the title over Stipe Miocic nearly a year ago at UFC 260 via second-round knockout.

Ngannou and the UFC brass haven’t exactly seen eye to eye over the past year. He was originally scheduled to defend his belt against Jon Jones, then Derrick Lewis, before eventually an interim title bout was made between Lewis and Gane. This allegedly stemmed from stalled contract negotiations with Ngannou asking for a big payday.

During a recent interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, White explained Ngannou’s current contract situation and where the two sides could go from here.

“When you’re a fighter, you have to be careful who represents you,” White said of Ngannou. “I don’t think he’s had the best representation. Look, if you want to be with us, we’d love to have you. If you don’t want to be with us, no problem. It’s all good. I think his contract, and this is off the top of my head, if he wins he still has time with us after this fight. He’d probably have one more fight.”

Francis Ngannou, UFC Have Had A Tense 2021

White has gone back-and-forth with Ngannou’s manager, Marquel Martin, on social media and in various outlets. If Ngannou loses to Gane, he would then become a free agent, to the surprise of many.

A Ngannou win at UFC 270 could buy more time for the two sides to come to terms on a new deal. This will surely be a question that will be asked multiple times leading up to the fight, and both sides seem firm on their stances regarding their current agreement.

Do you think the UFC will eventually come to terms with Francis Ngannou?

Francis Ngannou is not worried about Ciryl Gane’s undefeated status.

Francis Ngannou is getting ready to face possibly the toughest challenge of his career so far. The UFC heavyweight championship will be unified in January when Ngannou looks to defend his undisputed title against the undefeated interim champion, Ciryl Gane.

These two have a history between them, from being trained by the same coach to now some beef coming up lately. The one thing that Ngannou isn’t worried about is the fact that Gane has never lost in MMA. He spoke to this point with MMA Junkie recently.

“Undefeated opponent doesn’t mean anything,” Ngannou said. “For me, I think undefeated just means he has a lack of experience because it’s not the full experience. Losing a fight is a learning process, as well, so if you haven’t (been) there, you can’t understand something. I think that’s the thing. I have fought undefeated fighters before, so it’s not my first time. I know how it is. You can be undefeated, but when you get in that cage it’s just you and your opponent, and nothing matters at that point.”

Gane burst onto the UFC scene back in 2019 when he was just 3-0 as a professional MMA fighter. He had experience in Muay Thai before making the move to mixed martial arts. In fact, he was undefeated in Muay Thai as well. With seven straight wins in the UFC, Gane is now ready for his undisputed heavyweight title shot. He seems confident in himself and his skills coming into this fight.

Ngannou was on the same track as Gane is now when he first began rising up the UFC heavyweight ranks. He came to the UFC and blazed a trail through every opponent he faced until he fought for the title in 2018. He lost his very first title shot to Stipe Miocic and then followed that up with a loss to Derrick Lewis. Since those two losses, Ngannou picked himself back up and strung together five wins in a row, including a rematch win over Miocic to win the belt at UFC 260.

Now, these two will have the chance to settle the score and see who will be crowned the “Baddest Man on the Planet” at UFC 270 on Jan. 22.

Who do you think will walk away with the heavyweight belt at UFC 270, Francis Ngannou or Ciryl Gane?
