Jorge Masvidal

Retired UFC welterweight fan favorite Jorge Masvidal pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge following a March 2022 attack on Colby Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse. As part of the agreement, a pair of felony charges will be dropped, ensuring that ‘Gamebred’ doesn’t spend the foreseeable future behind bars.

Masvidal, 38, was sentenced to time already served plus court costs, according to a report from MMA Junkie.

I think the case probably should have been dismissed, it was a fight between two fighters,” said Masvidal’s attorney, Bradley Cohen. “I think it was resolved efficiently.”

Colby Covington Gears Up For Another Title Opportunity While Jorge Masvidal Settles into Retirement

Colby Covington is currently gearing up for his third welterweight title opportunity on December 16 when he once again steps into the main event spotlight for a showdown with reigning 170-pound champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296.

‘Chaos’ did not appear in court.

The ruling will (hopefully) bring an end to the pair’s longstanding rivalry that should have ended at UFC 272 when the two men stepped inside the Octagon to settle their differences inside the T-Mobile Arena. On that night, Covington left with a unanimous decision victory. Roughly two weeks later, Masvidal reportedly sneak-attacked Covington outside of a Miami restaurant. Covington suffered a fractured tooth and a wrist abrasion.

Following a four-fight losing streak that included his lopsided loss to Covington, ‘Gamebred’ walked away from the sport. He now focuses on promoting fights under his Gamebred MMA and Gamebred Boxing banners.

Ian Garry

Whether or not you love his brash attitude and the ability to back it up, Ian Garry is a UFC superstar in the making, and ‘The Future’ has some big plans once he takes care of a little business with top-ten-ranked contender Vicente Luque.

After kickstarting his UFC career with an impressive six straight wins, including a decisive decision victory over Neil Magny in his last outing, ‘The Future’ plans on clawing his way up the stacked welterweight rankings. Appearing on the Anik & Florian podcast, Garry hopes to one day share the Octagon with perennial contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, but he isn’t stopping there, calling for potential showdowns with ex-titleholders Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman.

“Here’s the thing, anybody who’s ranked above me, anybody whose number when I finish that fight is ranked higher than me is an opponent and it just has to see,” Garry said. “Right, we sit there and we look at it. I’ve called ‘Wonderboy’ out, he said no to me multiple times. Is the UFC Dublin card gonna manifest? Can we put me and ‘Wonderboy’ on a main event in UFC Dublin in front of the Irish crowd and bring it back to Dublin, Ireland? Why not.

“If Colby goes out there and gets starched by Leon, who is he gonna fight next? Let me go in there and thump the mouth off him. You’ve got Usman who’s just come off of a loss against Khamzat, why not give me him? Go out there and it’s like alright, Khamzat couldn’t finish him, watch what I’ll do to him. Anybody that’s above me, they’re all opponents” (h/t MMA News).

Ian Garry looking to improve his ground game with one of the UFC’s greatest grapplers

Perhaps the Irishman is biting off a little more than he can chew, but 13 wins in a row certainly shows that Ian Garry is ready for the next level of competition. He’ll get exactly that at UFC 296 in December when he returns to take on Brazilian knockout artist Vicente Luque.

I’m going to spend a month with Demian Maia, improving my jiu-jitsu, working on fundamentals, and just fixing and growing and learning jiu-jitsu from arguably the best grappler that UFC has ever seen,” Garry revealed. “So, that’s what I’m going to do and then I’m going to go in there on December 16 and do whatever the f*ck I want to do when I’m in the fight because I can, that’s the truth.”

Islam Makhachev calls for welterweight title fight after UFC 294 I want to be double champion

Still with it all to do this weekend in the Middle East, undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev has plans to definitely challenge for gold a division higher, following his title rematch with Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294.

Makhachev, the current undisputed lightweight gold holder, will return to the Octagon this weekend atop a UFC 294 card in Abu Dhabi, drawing former-foe, Volkanovski in a reshuffled event curtain closer.

Initially, the Russian grappling ace was slated to headline the Etihad Arena event against former champion and previous opponent, Charles Oliveira, however, just 10 days’ out from the clash, the Brazilian suffered a nasty laceration over his eyebrow during sparring, forcing him out of the pairing.

Attempting to land a second consecutive title defense in a rematch with Volkanovski, back in February of this year in Perth, Australia, Makhachev handed the undisputed featherweight champion and pound-for-pound number one his first promotional loss in a close, unanimous decision headliner at UFC 284.

Maintaining distinct plans for a welterweight move after the culmination of UFC 294, Makhachev has stressed his desire to fight for a second championship in the promotion, mentioning the draw of stylistic matchups against either the incumbent, Leon Edwards, or incoming UFC 296 challenger, Colby Covington.

Islam Makhachev plans two-division title reign

And with UFC 294 just two days away, the American Kickboxing Academy staple remains firm in his plans to loft two titles simultaneously inside the Octagon after his return to the Middle East.

“Yeah, of course, if they [the UFC] call me, I will be ready for Colby (Covington) or Leon (Edwards),” Islam Makhachev told assembled media during his availability. “Any fight – but my dream, my goal, I want a second belt.”

“We have many UFC champions, but not much (sic) double champions,” Islam Makhachev explained. “I want to be double champion.”

Do you think Islam Makhachev can win a second Octagon crown?

Belal Muhammad demands future title clash with Colby Covington after UFC 296: ‘I think he’s the easier fight’

Belal Muhammad

Belal Muhammad will fight whoever he has to in order to get a UFC title shot, but the welterweight title contender does have a preference between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington.

Now on a nine-fight winning streak, Muhammad feels that he’s earned a title shot. However, he’s going to have to wait for Leon Edwards to defend his title against Colby Covington first. So, ‘Remember the Name’ is not quite sure which of those names he’ll actually be fighting when he gets his long-awaited and well-earned title shot.

Unfortunately, there are even some rumblings going on that the UFC might need even more convincing before giving Muhammad the opportunity to become a champion. There have been some rumors going on that since Edwards will be occupied with Covington, the UFC might just attempt to arrange a match between former champion Kamaru Usman and Muhammad in the meantime. This would obviously be extremely risky, but would also have the chance of paying off for the young star. With a win over Usman, nobody could refuse Muhammad his long-awaited title shot.

Belal Muhammad shares who he prefers to fight between Colby Covington and Leon Edwards

Speaking to Middle Easy, Muhammad explained the matchup he would prefer to face on his path to becoming a UFC champion. According to the Chicago native, he and Leon Edwards have unfinished business after the way their first fight ended in a no-contest back in 2021 due to an illegal eye-poke.

“I definitely think Colby’s the easier fight for sure,” Belal Muhammad said. “And it will be a funner build-up because he’ll actually talk back and forth. But I would like to fight Leon, just because of the unfinished business we have.”

“And just because it will shut these people up,” Muhammad continued. “These trolls up, that think, ‘Oh man, Leon won four minutes and 59 seconds of a fight, so that means he was going to win the next 21 minutes.’”

“That’s not how fighting works,” He expanded. “I think I’m going to go out there and fight Leon, and I think I’m going to get a finish, and I’ll dominate him and show you guys what really would have happened.”

Do you think Belal Muhammad could actually beat Leon Edwards?
