The former president of the United State, Donald Trump, will be torn when watching the UFC 272 on March 5.

In the main event of the evening, avid Trump supporters Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal will settle their beef inside the UFC Octagon.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Masvidal suggested that Trump will be rooting for him to beat Covington at UFC 272, he said.

“I know that for a fact. (Donald Trump) knows what a fighter looks like. He was around boxing forever. He knows what a nut-hugger, ass-kissing machine like Colby looks like. Colby tried to kiss his hand and Trump pulled that sh*t back! That’s on video man, it’s me all day.”

Colby Covington Doubts Jorge Masvidal Even Voted For Donald Trump

‘Chaos’ responded to Masvidal’s recent remarks during an appearance at the  UFC 270 live weigh-ins.

“My reaction is that I’m team captain. I’m still, you know, Jorge’s Daddy and he’s just following in the footsteps of his Daddy,” Covington said at the 1:48:00 mark of the below video. “He just likes me so much that he wants to do everything that I do.

“Let’s be honest, did Jorge even vote for Donald Trump? Because I know I did. I’d love for the voters out there to go look it up and see if Jorge actually voted for Trump. You know I don’t if they let felons vote for Trump. You know, it’s good we’ve got a felon on the Republican side because there is so many felons and criminals on the liberal side. So let’s be honest. Did he actually vote for Trump? Someone look that up.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Covington and Masvidal are coming off losses to the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. ‘Chaos’ recently dropped to a decision defeat against Usman. Masvidal was KO’d by ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ last time out after previously going five rounds with the champ on a weeks’ notice.

Who do you think Donald Trump will be rooting for at UFC 272? Colby Covington or Jorge Masvidal?

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington isn’t holding back in his attempts at mental warfare against his UFC 272 opponent Jorge Masvidal.

Covington is set to face his old American Top Team teammate and friend, Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272. It is one of the few times in recent UFC history that a pay-per-view main event will feature a non-title fight.

Masvidal made headlines recently after opining on why fighters like Covington and former middleweight Chael Sonnen have to be brash and talk trash. He alluded to Covington and Sonnen’s wrestling-first style as a reason for them to overcompensate outside the Octagon.

After getting word of Masvidal’s comments, Covington posted a photo of him and Masvidal’s ex on his Instagram page.

“Don’t worry [Jorge Masvidal], I got you,” Covington said.

Covington and Masvidal have been on each other’s nerves for years, stemming from Covington’s dismissal from ATT. Masvidal has accused Covington of failing to pay his former coach following a win over Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight title.

In response, Covington has thrown decency out of the window, bringing family into the discussion. He’s accused Masvidal of cheating on his former wife and being a poor father to his children.

Masvidal and Covington used to be great friends as the two of them were grinding their way into the UFC headlines. However, their friendship has soured and a grudge match between them is on the horizon.

Masvidal isn’t one to promote trash talk too often, but it’s safe to say that his matchup with Covington may be another exception to that rule.

Appearing as a guest via video link on yesterday’s UFC 270 weigh-in show, former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington certainly didn’t hold back in his verbal attack against coach, Din Thomas, claiming that the UFC alum was nothing more than former champion and opponent, Tyron Woodley’s “waterboy”.

Colby Covington is slated to return against Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272 on March 5.

Covington, who last featured back in November in the main event of UFC 268 against Kamaru Usman in a championship rematch at Madison Square Garden – suffered his second career loss to the undisputed welterweight kingpin in the form of a unanimous decision defeat.

In the time since, Clovis native, Covington has booked a quickfire return to the Octagon in the form of a well-overdue welterweight grudge match against fellow former two-time title challenger and former American Top Team teammate, Jorge Masvidal. The pair is currently slated to headline UFC 272 on March 5.

Thomas, who holds ties with Covington’s former home base, American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida – received the wrath of the former interim welterweight title challenger during yesterday’s weigh-in show ahead of UFC 270, with Covington turning down the opportunity to appear on Thomas’ show, ‘Din’s Diaries’ – claiming that he was just a “waterboy” for the aforenoted, Woodley.

“Hey, man – if you weren’t busy talking sh*t, saying I wasn’t about that life in the media, you know, I’d be down,” Colby Covington replied to Din Thomas offer to have him on his show. “But, Din (Thomas), you’re nothing more than Tyron Woodley’s waterboy, so for you to talk sh*t about me in the media, it’s just – it’s just criminal.

For Covington, the outspoken MMA Masters trainee’s most recent professional victory came back in September 2020 – securing an eventual fifth round TKO win over the St. Louis native, after the former undisputed champion suffered a rib injury during a grappling exchange.

Covington: There’s Nobody On The UFC Roster Masvidal Can Beat

UFC welterweight Colby Covington has suggested there’s nobody on the roster his upcoming opponent and former teammate Jorge Masvidal is capable of beating.

Last week, it was announced that a blockbuster grudge match would be headlining the UFC 272 pay-per-view in March. With Alexander Volkanovski’s next defense and Aljamain Sterling vs. Petr Yan 2 moved back to April, Masvidal and Covington will settle their score in the March 5 main event.

For both men, the clash will represent an opportunity to rebound from defeats to current welterweight king Kamaru Usman and shoot back into title contention.

Masvidal will ride back-to-back losses against “The Nigerian Nightmare” into his first appearance of 2022. Having been beaten on the scorecards after traveling to Fight Island as a late-notice replacement in 2020, “Gamebred” had his chance to challenge for gold with a full camp last April. But in the UFC 261 main event, he was knocked out cold.

Similar to Masvidal, Covington has also lost twice to Usman. In a memorable first fight in 2019, “Chaos” provided the toughest test to the champion’s throne to date but was finished in the fifth round. In their rematch at UFC 268 two-and-a-half months ago, the former interim titleholder threatened once more. But despite taking Usman the distance, Covington fell on the wrong side of a unanimous decision verdict.

Covington Brands Masvidal “Fragile”

Covington has never lost two fights in a row. Masvidal has never lost three contests in a row. At UFC 272, one of those stats will be broken. According to the #1-ranked contender, it’s obvious which it will be.

Speaking prior to his second failed attempt at reaching the welterweight mountaintop, Covington discussed Masvidal’s chances of successfully rebounding from his latest setback in an interview with BT Sport.

According to “Chaos,” who used to train with Masvidal at American Top Team, the Miami native isn’t capable of beating anybody on the UFC roster anymore.

“I don’t think there’s anybody on the roster that Street Judas Masvidal can beat anymore. Whoever they put him in there with will get their hand raised. I’ve seen the lifestyle that Street Judas Masvidal lives. The guy’s fragile and he’s not disciplined, he’s not in the gym working hard every single day. So it doesn’t really matter who the UFC matches him up with, he’ll get beat by anybody.”

Now that he’s set to enter the Octagon with Masvidal, Covington will have the chance to prove his theory right by sending his former friend further away from welterweight gold. On the other side of the coin, Masvidal will have the chance to “bash” Covington’s face in, something he’s long desired to do.

Who do you think will win the grudge match at UFC 272, Colby Covington or Jorge Masvidal?

Jorge Masvidal Explains Why Certain Fighters Need To Trash Talk

Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington

UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal has his own theories behind why some of the brashest personalities in UFC history, including Chael Sonnen and Colby Covington, always engage in the art of trash talk.

Masvidal will face his former American Top Team teammate, Covington in a grudge match at UFC 272. After they were friends for years and helped each other grow in the sport, they have fallen out and will settle their differences in the octagon.

The Masvidal vs. Covington fight is one of only a few of its kind. There are rarely non-title pay-per-view main events in the UFC, except a Conor McGregor fight.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Masvidal claimed that Covington and Sonnen’s less entertaining in-cage approach is the reasoning behind their overcompensating out of it.

Jorge Masvidal Opines On Colby Covington, Chael Sonnen

“Chael had to be so sh*t-talking because he didn’t have an exciting style for a long time; he was just wrestling guys to death,” Masvidal said. “So he had to do that extra talking and get himself over like that. That influenced guys like Colby — that’s all he does.

“[Covington] has to talk about people’s wives. Like, how f*cking low of a society have we gotten, that’s even acceptable? You’re talking about people’s wives for no reason? Talking about Amanda Nunes’ team? In doing that, he inspires the future generations. So some 12-year-old may be looking at him, thinking, ‘Oh, this is the way to go, to insult a whole nation to get yourself over,’ because you weren’t selling pay-per-views, because you can’t fight, so you have to insult a whole country now.” (h/t MMANews)

Masvidal has never been one to engage in trash talk, but he’s certainly not afraid to respond to it either. He’s gone back and forth with the likes of Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards on social media and even McGregor.

The fight itself could be very competitive, but the pre-fight buildup may surpass the event altogether.

Do you agree with Jorge Masvidal?

MMA veteran Gleison Tibau has faced some of the best grapplers in the sport, but he thinks Colby Covington is the best at 170 pounds.

Tibau and Covington used to train together at American Top Team before Covington left the gym for MMA Masters. His dismissal was mostly due to ongoing feuds with teammates such as Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier.

Covington has managed to alienate himself from most of his former ATT teammates, but Tibau is not one of them. In a recent Instagram comment on a post by MMA Uncensored, Tibau praised Covington as the best grappler in the welterweight division.

Tibau’s praise of Covington comes despite the two-time UFC title challenger’s stance regarding his previous comments about Brazil. Following his win over Demian Maia, Covington called out the Brazilian crowd as “filthy animals” and was blasted by many of his colleagues.

Covington most recently fell to UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 268. Despite losing two of his last three to Usman, Covington remains ranked #1 at 170 pounds.

Tibau’s first season in the PFL featured a controversial win over Rory MacDonald. He is planning on contending for the league title for the 2022 season.

While it’s unclear if Covington will ever earn a UFC title, big fights with names such as Masvidal and Poirier remain on the table in 2022 and beyond.
