As soon as the announcement was made, the former WBA welterweight champion started challenging former UFC fighters Artem Lobov and Jason “The Kid” Knight to a fight.

Now, he thinks for some reason that a potential showdown against the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion could happen, which won’t for several reasons. He issued the following when he wrote the following on his official Twitter account:

“Conor the coward @TheNotoriousMMA with two-minute rounds. I’m sure even YOU can’t quit at this! Time to settle it (in) @bareknucklefc,” said Malignaggi in a tweet.

The bad blood between Malignaggi and McGregor has been well documented. It all started in 2017 due to sparring footage that was released. Despite the chance of a fight happening, he ex-boxer is willing to make it happen.

Yes, the seemingly never-ending speculation about these fighters competing inside of the ring continues.

Paulie Malignaggi claims that he wasn’t impressed by Conor McGregor’s performance at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. The bad blood between Malignaggi and McGregor has been well documented.

Some could say that Malignaggi is still upset with how everything played out between him and the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ. Although some could make the argument that Malignaggi is still trying to get a fight against the biggest star that the UFC has to offer.

Malignaggi was brought in as a sparring partner to help McGregor prepare for Floyd Mayweather last year. As a result of this, Malignaggi was upset with some of the images and videos of posted on McGregor’s social media accounts from their sparring sessions. The former boxer felt the footage was depicted in a bad light due to the fact that one of the pictures showed McGregor standing over him on the canvas.

Malignaggi continues to be critical of McGregor and has done it again as he recently spoke out. This time he talked about the way that McGregor lost his fight at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event.

“I cringed,” Malignaggi told iFL TV (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “And I don’t even like the guy. I cringed for him when I saw that audio on my phone on social media when somebody sent it to me. Like ‘Ugh, God, what a p-ssy. Holy sh-t, he’s more of a p-ssy than even I could have thought.”

The former boxer turned analyst stated that he has never heard a fighter ask for his opponent to take it easy on them during a fight.

“Because I didn’t think he would say it out loud to the opponent. Who begs their opponent to take it easy on them in the middle of a fight? I haven’t heard of something like that in my life, to be honest. That was a first for me.”

Bad Blood

The bad blood between Malignaggi and McGregor has been well documented. Malignaggi was brought in as a sparring partner to help McGregor prepare for Floyd Mayweather last year.

As a result of this, Malignaggi was upset with some of the images and videos of posted on McGregor’s social media accounts from their sparring sessions in which ‘Magic Man’ felt he was depicted in a bad light due to the fact that one of the pictures showed McGregor standing over him on the canvas.

McGregor ultimately lost to Mayweather in the tenth round by TKO after being hit by a series of punches against the ropes. Although he lost the fight, the UFC champion surpassed many expectations in his boxing debut.

The former boxer took part in a panel who were talking about the press conference in London for the upcoming boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin.

During that, FightHype asked Malignaggi about McGregor’s UFC 229 fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. This is when he went off.

“That’s a good ***-kicking waiting to happen,” Malignaggi said (transcript courtesy of MMAFighting). “He’s gonna get the s**t beat out of him. Like a nice ***-kicking too because unfortunately for him. Khabib is totally emotionless [and] doesn’t give a s**t about your antics. These Eastern Europeans, you can’t get in their heads. You ever notice these guys? They’re like robots, bro. They’re like killer machines. They have no emotion, bro. They have ice in their veins.”

“He’s been a pretty good punching bag lately,” Malignaggi continued. “He got the s**t beat out of him by everybody in sparring in camp me and Dashon Johnson used to have to go easy on him. I smacked him around and he did everything he could to get me out of the camp. Then he got smacked around by Floyd Mayweather. Then get got smacked around by the authorities when he got arrested because he didn’t want to fight Khabib. Now he’s gonna get smacked around by Khabib.

“Yo, you’re a f**king pinata, bro. Think about it. You ever play with a piñata? You just beat the s**t out of it adn you get a nice prize at the end of it. He’s like the piñata of combat sports. Everybody beats the s**t out of him and then gets a prize too! I love it. You’re a f**king piñata. Good luck. That’s a nice ***-whooping you’re gonna catch next month.”

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s larger-than-life personality has played a major role in helping him rise to fame and fortune on a scale never seen before in MMA, but it’s also led to a series of highly contentious flashpoints during his five-year stint in the UFC.

In this article, we’ll count down McGregor’s top 10 most controversial moments, and in the process demonstrate how he has the perfect nickname for a fighter, given that he seems to be becoming more “Notorious” with each passing day.

No. 10: Homophobic Slur in Poland

McGregor showed up to cheer on his teammate Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland back in October, and was soon making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The lightweight champion cut an animated figure during Lobov’s fight with Andre Fili, pacing around the Octagon and yelling instructions to his team-mate, causing such a commotion in the process that referee John Goddard took the unprecedented step of momentarily stopping the fight to order the Irishman back to his seat.

McGregor obliged, but backstage after the fight, the cameras were rolling as he was overheard repeatedly calling Fili a “f**g*t” while consoling the defeated Lobov – a slur that would soon go viral amid accusations of homophobia.

Whether a coincidence or not, McGregor’s media appearances to promote his new ‘Notorious’ documentary were drastically scaled back after this incident, though he did issue a public apology during an interview on The Late, Late Show just a few days later.

“I’m human, I slip up, I say stupid things every damn day. All I can (do) is hold my hand up and apologise if anyone was offended,” McGregor said on the Irish chat show.
