Did Conor McGregor Violate UFC Rules with Million Dollar Gamble?

Conor McGregor may be in trouble with his employer.

As the UFC 307 main event between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree got underway, the Irish megastar placed a huge $1 million bet on either fighter to win by knockout or TKO.

Conor McGregor

“If you don’t take risks you won’t drink champagne,” McGregor wrote on X.

Of course, ‘Poatan’ went on to win the bout via TKO in the fourth round to retain the UFC light heavyweight title.

“I couldn’t pick a winner until the fight started, but I just knew there was going to be a KO,” McGregor posted after the fight. “A million on a KO by either fighter at 1/5. Good bet! $200,000 profit! NICE!!!”

Interestingly, McGregor shared the bet on X before almost immediately taking it down. He later shared it on Instagram before reposting it to the site formerly known as Twitter.

Is Conor McGregor in violation of the UFC’s athlete conduct policy?

It was a nice 200k pickup for the Irish megastar. However, per a memo sent to athletes in October 2022, UFC fighters are prohibited from gambling on any UFC fight, regardless of whether they are involved or not.

The decision was made following a gambling scandal involving former fighter and coach James Krause.

Conor McGregor

McGregor’s sponsorship deal with online gambling site Duelbits is still permitted under the new rule, but neither he nor any other athlete under UFC contract is permitted to bet on the outcome of a UFC fight.

The fact that McGregor quickly deleted the post suggests he may have become aware of his error, but it’s unlikely that he’ll face any real consequences from the UFC.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor made a massive gamble on the UFC 307 main event between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr.

McGregor’s leap of faith paid off massively.

McGregor was supposed to make his UFC return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June. But, he withdrew from the event due to a toe injury, and his planned UFC comeback is indefinitely postponed.

As McGregor enjoys life away from the Octagon, he took in an eventful evening at UFC 307. Watching from afar, McGregor decided to place a $1 million wager on Pereira vs. Rountree ending inside the five-round distance.

Pereira vs. Rountree ended up being a bloody war for as long as the fight lasted. After Rountree gave Pereira some early-round troubles, Pereira put it on him in the later rounds, and eventually finished the action in Round 4.

McGregor, after winning the bet, took to social media to praise the UFC 307 main event fighters.

“I AM PUTTING A MILLION U.S. DOWN ON A KO TAKING PLACE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER HERE IN THIS MAIN EVENT, @DuelbitsOdds are 1/5. A million wins back $200k. Let’s see…” McGregor said in a since-deleted tweet. (h/t talkSPORT)

McGregor then confirmed Pereira’s TKO win earned himself a $200k profit.

“$200k baby! THE RICH GET RICHER! Called it play by play! What a fighter, Poatan! Incredible!” McGregor said.

McGregor isn’t a stranger to placing massive wagers on fights. He’s bet big on boxing and MMA fights in recent years since his 2021 leg injury.

After securing a $200k profit, McGregor turns his attention to following up on a combat sports comeback. In the meantime, he continues to enjoy life away from the combat spotlight.

Kevin Holland’s second fight since returning to the middleweight division ended in unfortunate circumstances at UFC 307.

“Trailblazer” met Roman Dolidze, who was able to secure a takedown in the opening round after taking this fight as a replacement for Chris Curtis.

During a scramble on the ground, Holland injured his rib and was in clear pain but was able to make it to the horn following some heavy ground-and-pound from the Georgian fighter.

In-between rounds, “Big Mouth” spoke to his coach Bob Perez about the injury as his corner asked him whether he could continue.

Referee Jason Herzog gave them some time to make the call and before the second stanza got underway, the Holland corner confirmed that he couldn’t continue.

Conor McGregor Criticizes Kevin Holland For Mid-Fight Injury Stoppage

In a quickly deleted post on X, Conor McGregor reacted to Holland’s injury and criticized the fan favorite for not attempting to continue.

“The Notorious” is no stranger to having fights stopped due to an injury and, in his opinion, “Big Mouth” should have at least tried to resume the contest before withdrawing.

The call wasn’t made by Holland, who undoubtedly would have tried to continue if the decision was up to him.

“Didn’t even f*cking try? Nah that is ridiculous! Go out again and see how is. If folds up again then you end it with the towel. Nah that’s not it for me folks. Holland is a solid veteran he well should have went out and gave it shot to see how he was. Wrong move.”

UFC Champ Ilia Topuria Threatens Conor McGregor: "I'd gladly put these two knuckles in his brain. See if I could fix it"

Ilia Topuria may no longer be interested in a fight with Conor McGregor, but that wouldn’t stop him from throwing hands with the Irish megastar should the two ever cross paths. Especially after McGregor made some disparaging remarks about the featherweight titleholder during a recent live stream.

McGregor seemingly ruffled Topuria’s feathers while engaging in a live Q&A session for Duelbits. Asked how he would beat ‘El Matador’ in a potential clash, ‘Mystic Mac’ said he’d “grab him by the scruff of the chest and slap that little nose off him.”

McGregor also called Topuria a “little ding dong of a thing” and threatened to cave his head in.

Unsurprisingly, that didn’t sit well with Topuria who snapped back at McGregor during an Instagram livestream.

“F**k you, Conor. All day every day… He’s not at my level,” Topuria said. “Otherwise, I’d gladly put these two knuckles in his brain. See if I could fix it and put his nose back in its place… When we cross paths, you won’t want to even look me in the eyes because you’re going to sh*t yourself. F***ing McChicken” (h/t Sportskeeda).

Ilia Topuria Gears up for his first featherweight title defense at UFC 308

After his second-round knockout of Alexander Volkanovski in February, Ilia Topuria returns to the Octagon on October 26 when the UFC heads back to Abu Dhabi. There, ‘El Matador’ will put his gold up for grabs against former featherweight champion and former BMF titleholder Max Holloway.

It will be Topuria’s first-ever meeting with ‘Blessed’ after successfully navigating past some of the best names in the featherweight division.

Holloway enters the fight coming off an epic buzzer-beating knockout against Justin Gaethje to capture the bragging rights belt at UFC 300 in April.

Boxing King Terence Crawford Rejects Conor McGregor's Fight Offer: "Sometimes it ain’t about the money"

Terence Crawford was not interested in Conor McGregor’s two-fight offer.

During a live stream for the online gambling site Duelbits, McGregor revealed that he had offered the multi-weight boxing world champion a lucrative deal for two fights, one in the sweet science and another in mixed martial arts.

“Crawford is very slick, he also has a wrestling background pedigree,” McGregor said. “You know they’re always talking to me about bouts. I’ve already boxed a boxer, and the best boxer in MMA is me. You know what I mean? I generate the most. We were talking back and forth about a two-fight deal.”

Conor McGregor

McGregor didn’t offer any additional insight into why Crawford never signed the contract, but during a recent interview with Bernie The Boxer, ‘Bud’ shed some light on the situation.

“I told Conor, ‘Hell no.’ They called me and they offered me the fight and me and Conor got on the phone and started trying to figure something out,” Crawford said. “And I told him, ‘Man I ain’t getting into no Octagon with you so you can be kicking me and elbow me and sh*t.’ He started laughing and sh*t and he said ‘Man, I respect it. ‘You respect my sport just like I respect your sport and you understand that if you get in an Octagon you’re going to be at a disadvantage.

“‘Just like if I get into the boxing ring with you, I’m going to be at a disadvantage’. But he was like, ‘We will make a sh*t ton of money.’ I said, ‘Yeah, sometimes it ain’t about the money, I can make money but you ain’t about to be kicking me, dude.’ Kicks and elbows man that sh*t ain’t no joke” (h/t BJPenn.com).

Is Terence Crawford reconsidering Conor McGregor’s Offer?

Just how much money could Crawford have cleared for a two-off with the Irish megastar?

According to a post from McGregor himself, ‘Bud’ could walk away with nine figures by the time both fights are in the books.

Terence Crawford

“Big respect to @tbudcrawford! $100 million dollars a fight, 1 MMA, 1 boxing,” McGregor wrote in Instagram. “$200 million dollars!

After hearing the total number, it looks like Crawford might be starting to reconsider.

After making his way back into the top rankings in the lightweight division, Dan Hooker is looking to pick the right fight this time around.

“Hangman” admitted after this recent win over Mateusz Gamrot that the last time he was in this position, he made a mistake by agreeing to face Michael Chandler in less than ideal circumstances.

Now he’s wanting to secure the fight that will put him into title contention, unless of course, something bigger comes around.

Conor McGregor is without an opponent for his return now that Chandler will be facing Charles Oliveira at UFC 309, next month.

Hooker, who would be more than happy to be the Irishman’s dance partner, just so happens to be in the same place as him next week.

Dan Hooker Says He’s Hoping To See If Conor McGregor Wants The Fight When He’s In Spain

McGregor is sure to be in attendance at the BKFC show in Marbella, Spain on October 12, after becoming a part owner of the promotion earlier this year.

Hooker recently stated on an episode of Fox Sports’ mainevent that he will also be making the trip over.

The City Kickboxing fighter had previously said that he would be cornering his friend Oscar Willis from The Mac Life in his bare-knuckle debut on that card.

Considering that they’re likely to be in the same room, Hooker said that he may try to get a quick word in with the Irishman before heading back home.

“I know that I’ve got a big fight coming up next but I am actually heading over to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships in Spain next week which Conor McGregor so happens to own. So yeah, by the end of next week, hopefully get a chance to either just have a word to him and see if he’s interested in the fight.”
