The story that continues to sweep the combat sports world by storm is the possibility of a boxing match between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Both men continue to trash one another through social media, and the hype surrounding the possible boxing bout doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon. TMZ recently caught up with UFC President Dana White to discuss the issue, courtesy of FOX Sports, specifically Mayweather’s recent comments stating he’d “slap the (expletive) out of Conor McGregor when I see him”:

“Floyd’s about this tall (points towards the ground), his hands are like peanut brittle, he has to wrap them a million times so he doesn’t break his hands. Floyd better hope he don’t run into Conor on the street. Let me tell you what, not only will Conor kick his ass, he’ll kick the (expletive) out of every one of his security guards, too,” White said.

“I would love to be there when Floyd tries to slap Conor McGregor. I promise you, Floyd, you will never try to walk up and slap Conor McGregor and you know it, too.”

Conor and floyd

When asked about the possibility of a boxing bout between his lightweight champion and ‘Money’, White just doesn’t see it ever happening:

“It will never happen,” White said said. “Let me tell you what, that fight will happen before Floyd walks up and tries to slap Conor, I promise you that, too.

“He’ll kick his head to another planet and then he’ll murder every one of his security guards.”

White, who is an admittedly huge fan of boxing, isn’t sure if Mayweather will ever return to the sport in attempt to earn his 50th straight victory, but thinks ‘Money’ is way in over his head when he says he can slap McGregor:

“I don’t know if he’s done. He can probably come back and he’ll have a boxing match,” White said. “I don’t take away from what Floyd’s accomplished in boxing, but he’s stepping way over thinking he’s going to slap Conor.

“It’s hilarious.”

The trash talk continues…

Since late 2015, combat sports superstars Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have been locking horns. During a brief period after McGregor’s first fight with Nate Diaz, a boxing match with Mayweather was apparently happening in September. Once McGregor beat Diaz in the rematch at UFC 202, it was off to lightweight in New York. The talk about a boxing match with ‘Money’ would cease, but only to reignite again after ‘The Notorious’ beat Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight strap.

Bad enough was the situation at featherweight that McGregor was stripped of the belt. Although he still claims to be the two-weight champion, McGregor’s reign at featherweight ended with no defenses registered. The back-and-forth with Mayweather would again prove popular in the media, but set the lightweight division at unease. Would McGregor now hold up another division by pursuing his pugilistic rivalry with Mayweather?

Social Media Rounds

More than anything, it appears the McGregor vs. Mayweather rivalry probably won’t go past a social media war. What’s disguised as a genuine rivalry is far more likely to do with followers and money. All that said, McGregor responded to Mayweather’s recent $10K reward video with the following Tweet:

WhiteMcGregorHappy

White Russian

With UFC president Dana White recently hinting at McGregor vs. Khabib in Russia, the Irishman’s immediate future is likely to take place in a UFC octagon. Undoubtedly the biggest draw in the promotion’s history, how far will McGregor’s stardom take him? With movie roles and many other lines of work available to him, the brash striker looks to have his employers by the horns.

Here’s Stockton’s own Nate Diaz to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year! Thanks for sticking with us at LowKick throughout 2016, and we look forward to another crazy year of MMA action in 2017!

Fedor Emelianenko Confirms Length of Bellator Deal, Talks Conor vs. Khabib

Heavyweight legend (and current Bellator MMA fighter) Fedor Emelianenko has opened up about his return to action in February. Speaking to Lenta.ru earlier this month, Emelianenko confirmed that his deal with Bellator is for four fights, the first of which takes place this February against Matt Mitrione. In regards to his American opponent, Fedor pointed to his high percentage of knockouts – but suggested it didn’t concern him.

Fedor enters the fight on a five fight win streak, however his last bout, against Fabio Maldonado under the Euro Fight Nights banner, wound up in a controversial decision win that many felt was either a draw or a loss for the Russian legend. Emelianenko was dropped early in that fight, and seemed out on his feet for part of the first. He went on to win the fight on the judge’s scorecards. Maldonado would eventually appeal the decision to the World MMA Association, and won. The WMMAA opted to turn the victory to a draw, however the Russian MMA Union refused to recognize the change.

With the win upheld, Fedor enters his Bellator debut with a record of 36–4 (1), having last lost to Dan Henderson at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson in 2011. Mitrione, meanwhile, is 11-5, with his last win coming over Oli Thompson at Bellator 158 in July.

Fedor also branched out into other topics, specifically addressing the possibility of a bout between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Speaking about the possibility of the UFC booking that fight and his prediction for it, he said:

It depends on what the UFC officials have to say and on the players themselves. I think it is possible. Khabib has long ago earned the right for the title match, he has done everything to get there. He must be given a chance.

I never make predictions but I am sure that Khabib has very good chances. He’s better on the ground than his opponent, and can choke him. Conor, is the opposite, he needs to keep his distance and strike from far away. Whoever does a better job at bringing out their strengths, that (person) will win.

As always, once Conor McGregor steps out of the Octagon from his latest UFC battle, the conversation of who ‘The Notorious One’ will face next immediately sparks.

Now that the Irishman holds the coveted 155-pound title a plethora of worthy contenders now await for the former featherweight champ to make his first lightweight title defense. One such contender is No. 1-ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov who is currently undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a 24-fight undefeated streak.

While no confirmation of an official bout between Nurmagomadov and McGregor has been made, UFC President Dana White hinted at the possibility during a recent interview with FOX 5 in New York. The promotion is pushing heavily to get a show in Nurmagomedov’s home-country of Russia, and thinks a match-up between ‘The Eagle’ and McGregor would be a massive selling point:

“We’re focused very heavily on Russia right now,” White said. “First of all, there’s tons of talent coming out of Russia, and a lot of fans. There’s a fighter named Khabib who’s from Russia, and he’s insanely popular. The next fight could be Conor vs. Khabib.”

McGregor is coming off of a historic win at UFC 205 in which he defeated Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title, as the then-featherweight champion would become the first dual-weight champ in UFC history. After rumors circulated the newswire stating that ‘Mystic Mac’ wanted to take 10 months off to enjoy the birth of his first child, McGregor has since shot down those claims and is looking to return after the holidays.

McGregor’s amazing accuracy and power being matched up against Nurmagomedov’s unstoppable grappling skills should prove to be quite the pairing, but who’s tools will be enough to get the job done?

For years now, people have been talking about who the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport is. You could say it’s Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Jon Jones, Conor McGregor and the list goes on and on.

During an appearance on The Michael Kay Show on Thursday on ESPN Radio, UFC President Dana White talked about various topics including who the best pound-for-pound fighter is. According to the UFC boss, it’s McGregor following his accomplishments at UFC 205 last month against Eddie Alvarez in which he won the UFC lightweight title.

“When you talk about the pound-for-pound, they don’t have Conor McGregor as the pound-for-pound – the media does the ratings – when you talk about what pound-for-pound really means, how is it not Conor McGregor? The guy was the [145] pound champion, [155] pound champion, and beat a guy at 170 [pounds]. That’s what pound-for-pound really means.”

While there has been a lot of talk from McGregor following UFC 205 including him wanting equity in the UFC, White shot down any speculation that there is heat between the two as he explained that he and McGregor are cool. White stated that he puts up with McGregor’s craziness because he is different and worth it. McGregor has put up record shattering numbers as the king of MMA over the past two years. While people ask White what he is going to do when bigger names fighters retire, White remains positive and thinks that they can just create new stars, which they have done.

“Conor and I are very cool. Do I put up with a lot of different stuff with this guy? Yeah, I do because he’s worth it and he’s different. But I’ll tell you this, people always ask, ‘What are you gonna do when Chuck Liddell retires? What are you gonna do when Anderson Silva’s gone? What are you gonna do when GSP’s gone? What are you gonna do when this guy’s gone?’ The list goes on and on…16 years later, it’s no different. Everybody was saying, ‘What’s gonna happen to the NBA when Michael Jordan retires?’..If you’re a fight fan, we bring you great fights.”

Fans have wanted to see the rubber match between McGregor and Diaz since their rematch in August. Diaz beat McGregor at UFC 196 by submission and McGregor beat Diaz by decision at UFC 202. White still remains hesitant of booking a third fight between the two fighters.

“The problem with the rubber match is Diaz is a 170 pounder. He’s a massive guy. Conor is a very talented guy, he’s very, very good. Every time he goes out there he looks better… [But] we should have never done it in the first place. That’s what weight classes are for. They wanted to do it, we did it. They wanted to do it again, we did it again. They’re 1-1. There’s only so many of those wars you can be in your career. It takes a lot out of you. Some guys go into wars like that and they’re never the same after it. Look at Meldrick Taylor when he fought Julio Cesar Chavez. He was never the same after that fight. We’ve had those type of fights too. I believe that Rory MacDonald was never the same after the Robbie Lawler fight. That fight ruined him. I don’t want to do that to someone special like Conor McGregor. It’s just not right.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov Blasts Jose Aldo: ‘I Do Not Bully The Little’

On Nov. 12, Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0) submitted Michael Johnson inside Madison Square Garden on UFC 205’s preliminary card. After the bout, he told the New York City crowd that “their guy” Conor McGregor “tapped like a chicken” earlier in the year and still got a lightweight title shot before he did. McGregor ended up starching Eddie Alvarez to win the championship that same night.

Since then, Nurmagomedov has turned his attention to Tony Ferguson. “El Cucuy” made a compelling argument for a shot at 155-pound gold when he bested former title holder Rafael dos Anjos in a “Fight of the Night” performance. The Russian grappler and Ferguson haven’t minced words when trading barbs.

With talks of McGregor taking time off, there have been ramblings of a potential interim title fight between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson. In a weird twist, featherweight champion Jose Aldo said he was offered an interim lightweight title bout. The 145-pound title holder also suggested that Nurmagomedov turned down the fight.

Nurmagomedov caught wind of Aldo’s comments and responded on his Instagram account:

Ferguson also chimed in on the situation, but he kept it brief. The No. 2 ranked lightweight also took to Instagram and reposted Nurmagomedov’s post. “El Cucuy” said, “Real Recognize Real #Respect.”

At this stage of my career, even if I win Daniel Cormier, fans will say that I have to fight with Tony, and I agree with them. I have spent my career in the UFC asking for the strongest opponents, currently in this division we must decide who is stronger, me or Tony? Without exception, all the fans and experts want to see this fight and I want to give it to them. And you, Aldo, I advise you not to lose the respect of your fans, including me, do not lose your head, do not fall for the mind games of the UFC, and be yourself. ? ????? ??????? ??????? ?? ????, ??? ? ????????? ?? ??? ? ???. ????????? ???, ??? ? ????????? ?? ??????. ? ???? ???????? ???, ? ??? ????. ?? ?????? ????? ???? ??????? ???? ???? ? ??????? ??????? ??????, ?????? ????? ????????, ??? ??? ???? ????????? ? ????, ? ? ? ???? ????????. ? ??? ???? ??????? ?
