Corey Anderson

The UFC light heavyweight champion did not mince his words about his old rival.

On Saturday, after Corey Anderson knocked out Ryan Bader at Bellator 268, the conversation started about the best light heavyweight fighter.

Bellator President Scott Coker believes that the winner of the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix Tournament between champion Vadim Nemkov vs. Anderson will be the best 205er in the world.

Anderson already believes he is, and him holding a win over UFC champion Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira, who fight for the title next weekend at UFC 267, gives him some steam.

When Blachowicz got word about Anderson’s claim to being the best light heavyweight, he responded the following day.

Blachowicz knocked Corey Anderson out in their rematch at UFC Fight Night: Anderson vs. Blachowicz 2 in 2020. The fight was Anderson’s last fight in the UFC, and he would sign with Bellator six months later and has won all three of his fights by TKO.

Polish Power

On Wednesday, Blachowicz spoke with MMA Fighting and continued to rail on Anderson, calling him a coward for leaving the UFC.

“I just want to put him on the ground again. The difference between him and I is when I lost the fight, I don’t quit because I’m not a quitter,” Blachowicz told Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting.

“He lost the fight, and he quit, he let it go. Maybe the pressure was too much, and he went to another place [Bellator]. Like I said, the second league. Now he is talking and barking; I don’t understand. Why doesn’t he stay in the UFC? He can say everything right now, you know, money. No, he is just a coward and a quitter.”

While the trilogy fight between Blachowicz and Anderson is out of the question, with the pair being in different promotions, the trash talk between them will not stop anytime soon.

Who would win the trilogy fight between Blachowicz and Anderson?

Jan Blachowicz and Corey Anderson are reigniting their feud over social media.

Corey Anderson was riding high following his first-round finish over Ryan Bader this past Saturday night in the semifinals of the Bellator light heavyweight Grand Prix. That was until he got a Tweet sent his way from his former opponent Jan Blachowicz. Blachowicz called out Anderson following his win.

“Hold up… So a guy who bolted from the UFC after I’ve slept him and almost made him retire, got a couple of wins in the 2nd league and claims he is the best?” Blachowicz wrote. “Maybe I’ve punched him to hard… No class in win or defeat Corey. There’s levels to this.”

Blachowicz holds a win over Anderson from back when they fought in the UFC at UFC Fight Night 167. He took a moment out from his own fight preparations to remind Anderson exactly who the light heavyweight king is. Anderson didn’t just take this insult, he came back with a little trash-talking himself.

“Let’s not forget,” Anderson responded. “What happened to you the 1st time I left you looking like elephant man. And you posted “I need to go home and rethink my career”. Yea I got knocked out in our 2nd fight (lucky punch?) but I made you my broad for 15 min straight nothing lucky about that.”

Anderson left the UFC back in 2020 right after the second bout with Blackowicz. He went on to sign with Bellator and has won all three of his bouts with the new organization. Anderson is just one fight away from bringing home the Bellator light heavyweight title. As for Blachowicz, following his win over Anderson, he went on to win the UFC 205 pound title and is about it defend it for the second time when he takes on Glover Teixeira at UFC 267.

If Jan Blachowicz and Corey Anderson fought for a third time right now, who do you think would win?

Corey Anderson Claims He’s The Best At 205lbs, Jan Blachowicz Responds

Jan Blachowicz had something to say after Corey Anderson declared himself the best light-heavyweight fighter in MMA.

‘Overtime’ made quick work of Ryan Bader at Bellator 268 on Saturday evening. Anderson needed just 51 seconds to dispatch of the current Bellator heavyweight champion and former 205lb titlist.

Post-fight, Anderson told assembled media that he is the world’s best at light-heavyweight. The Bellator Grand Prix finalist ranks himself ahead of UFC champion Jan Blachowicz despite the fact the Polish puncher knocked him out inside one round just last year.

“I already know I’m the best light heavyweight in the world,” Anderson said at the Bellator 269 post-fight press conference. “I already know the Jan (Blachowicz) it was a hiccup of mine in my own shield. I’m not going to say I underestimated him but I looked past him. I was thinking, ‘I whooped the sh*t out of this dude once and I’m going to do it again.’ But I shouldn’t have. I should have taken it one fight at a time.

“Like I’ve said in interviews all week. I learned my lesson. Now, I’m always worried about the moment now. I’m not worried about what’s the next. I’m not looking past anybody or anything or any moment. I know I can dominate Jan again. I know I can do the same thing that I did in 2015 when I only had six or seven fights under my belt. Now, even better with only 21 or 22.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Jan Blachowicz Shuts Down Corey Anderson’s Best In The World Talk

Blachowicz understandably took exception to Anderson’s claim.

“Hold up… So a guy who bolted from the UFC after I’ve slept him and almost made him retire, got a couple of wins in the 2nd league and claims he is the best? Maybe I’ve punched him to hard… No class in win or defeat Corey. There’s levels to this,” Blachowicz wrote on social media.

As far as Scott Coker is concerned, the winner of the Bellator light heavyweight grand prix is the best 205-pounder in the world.

The finals were decided last night at Bellator 268 as Vadim Nemkov defended his title with a submission win over Julius Anglickas in the main event.

In the co-main event, Corey Anderson made quick work of former champion Ryan Bader with a first-round knockout win much to the surprise of almost everyone.

With Nemkov now set to defend his title against Anderson, Coker — who has long hailed his light heavyweight division as the best in mixed martial arts — believes the winner cements their place as the best 205er on the planet.

“This was a gauntlet of 205ers and whoever wins this tournament, to me, is the best 205er on the planet, period. That’s how I feel,” Coker said at Saturday’s post-fight press conference (via Sherdog).

As for when the final will take place? Coker is hoping for early next year.

“The finals that we have now really is a fight that I thought,’This could be the finals.’ I’m gonna let them heal up for a month or so,” Coker added. “I think we’re gonna start having a conversation in the next 30 days about when we’ll have the finals.

“I personally would love to have the finals in late January, early February…I think Nemkov needs a little bit of rest time and we’ll get it on.”

Who do you have winning the final?

Corey Anderson Ryan Bader

Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader faces former UFC standout Corey Anderson in the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinals at Bellator 268. Let’s find out who will get a spot in the finals.

The fight opens up on the feet with both Anderson and Bader attempting to find their range with the jab. Just a minute into the fight, Anderson lands a massive right hand right behind Bader’s ear that drops him down to the canvas below. Anderson follows it up by landing some vicious ground-and-pound strikes that end up finishing the fight in one of the biggest wins of his career.

Anderson came into the fight off back-to-back wins in this new chapter of his career, after an up-and-down tenure in the UFC. Anderson has seemed to found a new home in Bellator after his vicious knockout of Bader to move on to the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix finals.

Corey Anderson knocked out former Bellator champion Ryan Bader in 51 seconds to move on to the finals at Bellator 268

Bader came into the fight after a dominant performance over Lyoto Machida in the first round, and was looking to get revenge against Vadim Nemkov if he could get past Anderson. But, it wasn’t meant to be and Bader will now focus on defending his heavyweight title in Bellator.

Anderson will get his first title shot after falling short time and time again in the UFC. His last fight with the promotion ended on a sour note, as he lost via TKO to the eventual light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in a UFC Fight Night headliner. Before that, Anderson had won four fights in a row over the likes of Glover Teixeira and Johnny Walker.

Check out the incredible knockout below, as Anderson moves on to the Grand Prix finals with a title on the line.

Bellator light heavyweight Corey Anderson is happy with his switch from the UFC and believes the gamble paid off ‘big time’.

Corey Anderson is scheduled for a 205-pound contest against the current Bellator heavyweight champion, Ryan Bader, at Bellator 268 this Saturday (Oct. 16, 2021). Bader, also a former Bellator light heavyweight titleholder, will meet Anderson in the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinal bout. The winner is poised to potentially earn a $1 million payday in the finals of the tournament.

This will be Anderson’s third fight since leaving the UFC after losing to Jan B?achowicz in 2020 by knockout in round one. The American admits his risk-taking already paid off following two Bellator TKO victories.

Ahead of their showdown this weekend, Corey Anderson shared on a recent episode of Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour how happy he is to be fighting for Bellator.

“Oh yeah, (the gamble) paid off big time. I made a post after my second fight, like UFC gave me a career, but Bellator gave me the life. After the first check, my wife didn’t have to work, I bought her a new car. I fly my family out to fights now, I can go on vacation, I can do whatever, because I’ve made more money here in two fights than I did in my whole career in the UFC,” Anderson said.

With high praise like this coming from a former UFC veteran, it appears a spot on the Bellator roster might start becoming increasingly difficult to turn away from.

Are you surprised to hear Corey Anderson’s claim about the pay gap between the UFC and Bellator?
