Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith set the MMA community on fire during an appearance on Michael Bisping’s ‘Belive You Me’ podcast.

During their conversation, Smith discussed an incident where a drunk Donald Cerrone and professional poker player Dan Blizerian forced Smith’s wife and mother out of their front row seats before Smith’s light heavyweight title fight with Jon Jones at UFC 235.

“Dan Bilzerian and Donald Cerrone, removed my mom and my wife from their seats, while I’m getting ready to fight Jon Jones,” Anthony Smith said while speaking with Michael Bisping. “I was f*cking furious. If I had seen Dan Bilzerian – cause I had found out about it right after I got to the back, and if I had seen him then, I would have f*cking torn his head off, I was so mad.”

After Smith’s story blew up the internet, he followed up with Jesse Merl on his ‘Jesse ON FIRE’ podcast to provide some additional details on the incident and why he waited so long to discuss it.

Merl first asked if Anthony Smith had any idea that this story would cause such an uproar within the MMA community.

“No, I had no idea,” said Smith. “I’m just on the podcast with this thing. We just rap about whatever pops in our head and I don’t know. He brought up Dan Blizerian and I just told the Dan Blizerian story that I had.”

When asked if he had seen Blizerian since the incident, Smith stated that he had not, but did confirm he has run into Cerrone multiple times though never addressed the incident with him directly.

“I’ve ran into Cowboy a handful of times since and never said anything, but I’ve always given Cowboy a pass because I know that deep down, Cowboy’s a good dude. Sometimes you know, you drink too much or whatever and you end up in a weird circle with rich guys and sh*t happens sometimes. But I think Cowboy’s character has shown through positively more times than it has negatively.

“I’ve always given him kind of a pass on that and just been like, he was kind of f*cked up and you know, by and large Cowboy’s a good dude and I think that if I ever brought it up, I think that he would have apologized so I’ve always kind of given him a pass.”

Anthony Smith Believes It Was an Isolated Incident With Cerrone, but Is Not Willing to Give Blizerian the Same Benefit of the Doubt

When asked about his knowledge of Dan Blizerian, Smith said that he only knew about Blizerian from what he had seen social media and heard from others.

“I don’t even know Dan. I guess I just know of what I’ve seen on social media and then what I’ve heard about him from people that do know him. Other than this one thing, he’s never done anything to me. It’s just a, you know, this is a one-off and I’ve always just assumed that he was just a [hell of a] douchebag.

“Just because that was my mom, it’s a story, you know what I mean? And because of the situation that was going on when it happened, it’s a deal, but how many times has he done that to just regular folks, you know what I mean? That’s the thing people are probably latching on to.

“I’m not out here trying to attack Dan and definitely not Cowboy. If I had an issue with Cowboy, there’s been plenty of situations for me to deal with that issue. Whether that be bring it up to him or flip out or whatever. Maybe I’m a weirdo because I haven’t. Initially I was pretty pissed as well, but I think the more I thought about it like, when you stick me in a room with a bunch of millionaires or whatever, you get blacked out drunk, I can’t guarantee that I wouldn’t do something stupid.”

While Smith is willing to give Cerrone the benefit of the doubt, he was unwilling to do the same for Blizerian given his reputation. According to Smith, the two have not crossed paths since the incident but says he would have a conversation with Blizerian regarding the situation should they bump into one another.

“I think that was probably just an isolated situation [for Cowboy] and I don’t necessarily believe that it’s that isolated of a situation when it comes to Dan Blizerian. I could have gotten ahold of Dan if I wanted to. I always just figured I’d see him when I seen him and we would have a conversation about it.”

When asked what kind of conversation, Smith said, “I think that depends on him. I think he decides where that conversation goes.”

Conor McGregor has accused Khabib Nurmagomedov of “running” from a fight with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone on several occasions.

McGregor is referring to the fact Nurmagomedov was linked to a fight with Cerrone at UFC 178 on 27 September 2014, before he was forced out of the bout due to a knee injury. The match-up was rebooked for UFC 187 on 23 May 2015, ‘The Eagle’ once again withdrew from the fight with a knee injury.

Nurmagomedov recently downplayed Jose Aldo’s career resurgence and in the process of doing so used McGregor’s win over Cerrone to prove his point.

“When Conor fought Cowboy he looked like a lion,” Nurmagomedov said at a Gorilla Energy press conference this week. “When he fights stronger opponents, he looks like scared chicken. Fighting top fighters shows your worth.

McGregor has already responded to what he sees as disrespectful comments aimed at Aldo.

On Saturday, the Irishman took to social media to address Nurmagomedov downplaying his win over Cerrone, a man McGregor claimed the Russian ducked throughout his career.

“This guy is still talking? Another press conference? You shit your pants of cerrone your whole career,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “You pulled 3 times from him. Your father, god rest his soul, could not believe his eyes the way I beat Cerrone. You disrespect cerrone and now aldo too? You ran away. Shut up.

“Another press conference? Haha for what? You are doing a whole load of nothing mate,” McGregor added. “You and cerrone where locked in to fight since way back and you never had the courage. You ran away and now all you do is talk like bitch. Aldo is 100 times the fighter you are, and ever will be.”

Do you agree with Conor McGregor? Did Khabib Nurmagomedov avoid fighting Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone throughout his UFC career?

On short notice, Alex Morono has scored the most high-profile victory of his UFC stint so far, finishing former lightweight title challenger, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone with a first round barrage before the klaxon.

Meeting the veteran Albuquerque-based striker on short notice as he replaced the released, Diego Sanchez — Morono started in a timely fashion, sprinting across the Octagon, almost reminiscent of former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor‘s early approach against Cerrone.

Tying up in the clinch for the opening minute, Morono eventually broke away and began winging shots in the pocket against Cerrone who attempted to find his mark with a left body kick, which he found on numerous occasions.

Slipping and firing off a swift and perfectly-placed counter overhand right, Morono forced a wobble out of Cerrone, who began to circle away. Forcing the Denver-native to circle back to the fence, Morono, under the tutelage of Sayif Saud at Fortis MMA — reached with a right hand and left hook, eventually closing down Cerrone with a barrage, finishing the future Hall of Famer before the first round concluded.

Below, catch the highlights from Morono’s first round stoppage win over Cerrone.

Unloading the tank early, the often unorthodox Price threw flurry after flurry, landing elbows aplenty at the fence opposite a resilient, Cerrone. Mixing up his strikes well – BMF Ranch owner Cerrone seemed to improve the longer the fight played out, as is the usual norm for the veteran. Receiving a dubious 29-27 judging in his favour, future Hall of Famer Cerrone managed to claw a majority draw, with two judges marking a 28-28 as a result of the indavertent eye pokes from Florida native, Price.

Veteran UFC fighter Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone plans to become the first UFC fighter to compete three times in one week.

The Welterweight is scheduled to face Anthony Pettis on May 9th at UFC 249 but plans on competing on the two following events to be held on the 13th and 16th.

Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Cowboy shared his plans.

“I’m going to go in there and win this fight and say “Hey Dana, you got anybody lined up for Wednesday? Because I’m going to stay here in the RV. I want to be the first fighter to bang three fights out in a week.”

Coming off a first-round stoppage loss to Connor McGregor in January, Cerrone took this fight with Pettis on short notice due to the promotion remaking the line-up for UFC249 at its new date and location. This bout now makes up part of a card stacked with big names from top to bottom.

UFC 249 is to be headlined by a lightweight bout between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje to determine the UFC interim lightweight champion. Gaethje is on a winning streak with his most recent victory coming against Donald Cerrone back in September 2019. Ferguson was originally scheduled to face Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC249 until the event had to be postponed and the champ got stuck at home in Dagestan unable to get into the USA. Due to the circumstance, the UFC felt the need to create an interim title in place while Khabib takes the time off for Ramadan.

While Cowboy is eager to compete should he emerge victorious against Pettis on May 9th it is unlikely he will be cleared to compete again just four days later.

Do you think the UFC will allow Cerrone compete three times in one week?
