Not many female fighters are going around asking to fight Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg Justino, but former UFC bantamweight title challenger “Alpha” Cat Zingano claims to be one of them.

The 34-year-old contender recently took to her official Twitter account to tell fans that she’s been ‘begging’ the UFC to book a fight between her and the Brazilian slugger:

Zingano, who’s currently ranked No. 7 in the bantamweight rankings, is coming off back-to-back losses to former champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 184 back in Feb. 2015 and rising contender Julianna Pena at UFC 200 last July. Despite her recent setbacks, Zingano remains a well-known name amongst female fighters.

UFC President Dana White actually revealed that the UFC was targeting a bout between Cyborg and Zingano, but Justino quickly shot the idea down. With the creation of a women’s featherweight division in the UFC, Justino has expressed interest in facing a legitimate 145-pound contender rather than another fighter moving up from bantamweight. The Brazilian has competed twice inside the Octagon thus far, scoring back-to-back finishes over Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg, with both of those victories coming in 140-pound catchweight bouts.

Cyborg has expressed interest in fighting at UFC 214 this July perhaps against UFC champion Germaine de Randamie or top contender Megan Anderson. However, she recently got herself into some trouble when she punched UFC strawweight Angela Magana at the UFC’s Athlete Retreat in Las Vegas last weekend, so her future is now up in the air.

Who would you like to see Cyborg face next?

Controversial Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg Justino made headlines this past weekend when she essentially punched UFC strawweight Angela Magana at the UFC’s Athlete Retreat in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Apparently, Cyborg was upset over a few tweets that Magana had sent out and when the two came to face to face in Las Vegas, tempers flared.

This situation doesn’t appear to be clearing up, however, as Magana recently said that she’ll be filing a lawsuit against the Brazilian slugger:

“I’ve already retained a lawyer,” Magana told TMZ. “I have medical bills, I’m not gonna pay those. You fucked up big time. You can’t do what you did. Now I’m gonna get you as hard as I can get you.”

Cyborg has competed twice under the UFC banner to date, scoring back-to-back stoppage victories over the likes of Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg at UFC 198 and UFC Fight Night 95 respectively. She had expressed interest in fighting for the UFC featherweight title, which is currently held by Germaine de Randamie, at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017 in California, but that possibility is now up in the air.

UFC star Angela Magana has said she will “most definitely” take legal action against Cris Cyborg after the Brazilian punched her at the UFC Athlete Retreat on Sunday.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Magana said “You f–ked up, big time. You can’t do what you did. I’m gonna get you as hard as I can get you.”

Magana added she was told police are pursuing a charge of felony assault after the clash between the duo. TMZ provided video of their interview (Warning, contains profanity):

Cyborg was arrested and charged with misdemeanour battery having struck Magana at a UFC retreat.

The precursor for the incident is said to have been barbs aimed by Magana at Cyborg on social media, including a post on Twitter that insulted the 31-year-old’s appearance.

As noted by Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting, the post in question is said to have upset Cyborg as it included a photograph of her visiting young cancer patients.

Things came to a head between the pair at the 2017 UFC athlete summit, as we can see below (warning, contains profanity):

After the incident, Magana took to social media to challenge Cyborg to a jiu-jitsu bout, noting there is a difference in weight between the pair.

Cyborg is considered by many to be the standout female mixed martial arts star in the world and made her UFC debut in May last year against Leslie Smith. The featherweight star has won 17 of her 19 professional fights.

Angela Magana is ready to settle her beef with Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino inside the octagon. The UFC women’s bantamweight competitor took to Twitter on Wednesday to challenge Justino to a jujitsu matchup:

Magana’s tweet comes after Justino was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly attacking Magana at the 2017 UFC athlete summit. Nick Strickland of CagePages.com posted a video of the altercation Monday, which shows Justino telling Magana “you don’t respect nobody” before the situation turned physical.

Magana has become a vocal antagonizer of Cyborg on social media, which was the impetus for the altercation. The two women were separated by UFC officials, and Magana was taken to a Las Vegas hospital to be treated for a minor face wound.

“This is a misdemeanor crime, which is the lowest of Nevada penalties,” Officer Larry Hadfield of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie. “When they found probable cause to believe the crime had occurred, they cited that other individual. For us, it’s a very minor call, I guess you could say.”

Justino could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

Magana and Justino fight in different weight classes, so settling this at a UFC event seems highly unlikely.

10 Female Fighters Who Could Be The Next Ronda Rousey

It’s been almost six months since Ronda Rousey suffered her second crushing defeat in the UFC, and by all accounts we may have seen her fight for the last time in the Octagon.

Now the hunt is on to find the next female superstar in the sport, and in this article we’ll be looking at 10 women who are best placed to fill the void left by Rousey, from existing stars with the potential to take their fame to the next level, to up-and-coming prospects who have shown promising signs they could be the next big thing in WMMA.

To be clear, what we’re looking for here are not just talented fighters, but rather those who, like Rousey or indeed Gina Carano before her, also have that elusive ‘it factor’ that could enable them to gain mainstream recognition and become a major draw on pay-per-view.

Before we begin though, here’s a few honorable mentions to these talented ladies who just missed out on making the list but are worthy of recognition: Michelle Waterson, Ilima Macfarlane, Alexa Grasso, Julianna Pena, Holly Holm, Megan Anderson and Kayla Harrison.

10. Anastasia Yankova

In some circles, Anastasia Yankova is already being touted as the ‘Russian Ronda Rousey’.

The 26 year-old has gained considerable attention for her stunning looks and has over 180,000 followers on Instagram, but she has been training in martial arts since she was six and is a former Russian Muay Thai champion.

Her star potential was quickly recognized when she transitioned to MMA and with just two wins under her belt, Bellator jumped at the chance to sign Yankova in 2016.

She’s since improved to 5-0 and demonstrated that she’s more than just a striker by claiming three victories by way of submission.

There’s no doubt Yankova is a marketer’s dream and she’s already struck up sponsorship deals with the likes of Nike and Reebok, been featured in the Russian edition of Vogue, and speaks English fluently enough to have been interviewed by TMZ.

The caveat here is that though she remains unbeaten her performances in the cage so far suggest she’s still a work in progress, and so doubts remains as to how she’ll cope when the level of competition increases, with another rising Bellator star, Ilima Macfarlane being among those eager to derail her hype train.
