A staff photographer for Jackson-Winklejohn MMA gym is in hot water after an Instagram post calling Cris “Cyborg” a man.

The photographer, who was credentialed for UFC 219, is named Mark Aragon and his errant Instagram post has put the entire  Jackson-Wink gym in quite a bad light.

See the inflammatory post for yourself:

Aragon’s official role within the camp is official video and media director as well as staff photographer. His post received immediate backlash and he eventually deleted it upon the indication of bad press.

Aragon has not yet responded to the post, but this isn’t the first time the Jackson-Wink gym has been in hot water for a social media disaster.

Someone from the camp liked a post that called UFC bantamweight  Aljamain Sterling an “n-word”, which was the cause of much consternation.

”Cyborg” defeated Jackson-Wink fighter Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 219.

Now that 2018 has begun, there’s just no other way to say it: 2017 was simply a strange year for the UFC.

With record-low pay-per-view numbers at points and outright messes in more than one division as titles became more devalued, it may not have been a banner year for the UFC, but the sport’s leading promotion and its fighters still managed to produce plenty of major talking points over the course of the year.

Cris ‘Cyborg’ Punches Angela Magana At UFC Athlete Retreat

The UFC Athlete Retreat in Las Vegas in May was supposed to be an opportunity for fighters to relax, have fun and network, but instead, it turned into a battleground between two bitter rivals.

For several months beforehand, strawweight fighter Angela Magana had been waging an unprovoked cyberbullying campaign against the featherweight star, making fun of her appearance in a series of unflattering memes and messages.

Angered by the insults, ‘Cyborg’ took it upon herself to confront her foe face-to-face at the retreat, but Magana remained defiant and made it clear she had no intention of apologizing, leading to the Brazilian star punching her in the face.

In the aftermath of the incident ‘Cyborg’ received support from fans and other UFC fighters for confronting her tormentor, but Magana ignored the backlash and reported the incident to the police, claimed to have been treated in hospital for a cut lip and ‘cervical strain’ and threatened to file a lawsuit against her rival.

’Cyborg’ was later charged with misdemeanor battery by the Las Vegas Police Department.

UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is still on top of the mountain.

As seen in her latest fight, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Cyborg in the main event of UFC 219 on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on pay-per-view.

Following the fight, she is allowing other people to praise her rather than doing it herself and where she fits as the greatest of all-time among female fighters.

“I never think like that,” Cyborg said when asked whether her win over former women’s bantamweight champ Holly Holm solidified her status as the world’s greatest. “I let my fans think about that. I just have to keep training and keep learning, because the girls are going to beat me, and I have to be ready.”

The UFC champ wanted to make it clear that she isn’t looking for a spot on UFC 221 in February in Perth.

“I think Holly’s tough,” Cyborg said (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “I think it’s the first fight I did five rounds.”

“I worked a lot of patience,” Cyborg said. “She is tough and has a lot of experience. I touched her, and I saw she felt the punches, but she was moving around a lot.”

There are some people already attempting to book her next fight, and there are two names that keep coming up. Current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and Invicta featherweight champion Megan Anderson.

Cyborg reiterated her distaste at facing a fellow Brazilian, although she said she’ll acquiesce if Nunes pushes for the fight.

“I wouldn’t like to fight somebody Brazilian, but if she wants to fight me, I’ll fight anybody (UFC President) Dana White puts in front of me,” Cyborg said. “I’m saying Megan, because she’s 145 pounds, and I would like my division growing. I think she’s in line to fight for the belt.”

“I’m really happy, because I know to have a great fight, I need a great opponent,” Cyborg said.

Despite the fact that former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm didn’t capture the UFC women’s featherweight title from Cris Cyborg in the main event of UFC 219, she didn’t leave the octagon unscathed.

As seen in the fight, which took place on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on pay-per-view, Holm suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Cyborg.

By looking at the stats, she took 118 significant strikes in the five-round bout, which will understandable result in some damage.

Now, a photo has surfaced online showing off the damage. It should be noted that Holm’s manager, Lenny Fresquez, told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that his client was checked out at the hospital post-fight.

He added that the former UFC champion did not sustain any serious injuries. Despite the fact that the damage is bad to her face, it didn’t stop her from smiling, which is a good thing.

Longtime UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer shared the following photo on his official Instagram account:

“@HollyHolm is a true Warrior both in “Victory & Defeat”… Words cannot describe my respect & fandom for her… I feel so honored to call her my friend. She is a true example of “To Be Great Is To Be Humble” ? #UFC.”

As a result of her loss to Cyborg at UFC 219, Holm fell to 1-4 since her legendary knockout of Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in November 2015.

She did not speak to the media post-fight.

5. Carla Esparza Isn’t Done At The Top

Former women’s flyweight champion Carla Esparza may be several years removed from being a title holder, but on Saturday she proved she’s still a top contender at 115 pounds.

”The Cookie Monster” took the fight to Cynthia Carrillo, who entered the bout as the prohibitive favorite. Esparza used her wrestling and savvy veteran know-how to get past Carrillo, who was clearly the bigger fighter between the two.

And Esparza holds a submission win over the current women’s flyweight champ Rose Namajunas from back in 2014, and with the woman who brutally took the belt from Esparza out of the picture for now, any victory could put her in the title mix at 115 pounds.
