Conor McGregor has been in legal trouble as of late. The Irishman has dealt with the phone incident in Miami, allegedly punching a man in a pub, and then a sexual assault case that was in the New York Times that hasn’t gone anywhere since.

So, McGregor went on ESPN and apologized for his actions as of late and said he is eager to return to the Octagon. For UFC president, Dana White, he is glad the former UFC champion apologized and assures it was not something the UFC or he told him to do.

“Conor and I talk at least a couple [of] times a month and I think he needed to do that,” White said following the Contender Series about McGregor’s apology (h/t MMA Fighting). “I didn’t tell him to do it. He did that on his own and good for him.”

Yet, what was never touched on in the interview was the sexual assault allegation against him. It was reported in late March and allegedly took place in a hotel in Dublin last December. According to the report from the New York Times, McGregor was taken into custody in January and questioned about the allegations. However, he was never arrested or charged.

Since the report, there has been no further word on it.

Now, however, Dana White was asked about it and says he doesn’t know anything about it and says Conor McGregor told him it is not him and someone else.

“I know zero about that,” White responded when asked about the sexual assault allegations. “To be honest with you, the back and forth that I’ve had with him about that, it’s not him. It’s somebody else so I don’t know.”

As of right now, Conor McGregor is not in any legal trouble for the sexual assault allegation.

Dana White & Conor McGregor have plans to meet up again despite their first scheduled meeting not taking place.

Fans have been awaiting the return of the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion to competition inside of the Octagon. Earlier this month, the UFC President made it known that he was supposed to meet up with him to discuss his future when the promotion traveled to Florida for the UFC Fort Lauderdale event that went down this weekend.

“His retirement? No [he didn’t discuss it with me]. Conor McGregor will fight again, White told CNN World Sport. “Me and Conor communicate everyday, we’ve been talking all this week. Things are good with Conor and I and we’ll get something figured soon.

“Just talking about possible fights, possible time to come back. You know, he and I are actually setting up some plans right now. I’m going to Florida in the next couple of weeks and we’re going to sit down and talk face to face.”

During the post-fight press conference for the UFC Fort Lauderdale event, White made it known that this meeting didn’t happen. However, he did tell MMAJunkie that they plan to meet shortly in Los Angeles.

“I was supposed to meet with him down here; we’re going to meet in LA instead,” White said.

McGregor has not fought since his submission loss to undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

Dana White Explains His Theory On Why Conor McGregor Is Global Superstar

The UFC President claims to know why McGregor is such a big star.

Dana White explains his theory as to why Conor McGregor is such a huge star for the sport of MMA and the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Although the UFC and its President have created some huge stars in the past like Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Georges St-Pierre, Ronda Rousey, and Jon Jones, there is one person who outshines them all. That is the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion.

Dana White Explains

Once White sat down for an interview with former UFC welterweight title contender and current color commentator Dan Hardy, the UFC boss gave his theory on the biggest reason McGregor is such a huge star.

“Everybody always talks smack that I kiss Conor’s ass and all this other stuff and Conor would completely disagree with that, I think,” White told Dan Hardy via RT Sport (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “Why do you think he’s such a big star?” You think he’s such a big star because he’s funny? Yeah, that’s part of it. You think he’s such a big star because he speaks so well? Absolutely part of it. And you just keep going down the line of all these things that make him a star, but number one, first and foremost, the reason he is a global superstar and people love this guy because he’s a real fighter.”

Singing The Praise

White continues to sing the praise of McGregor never turning down fights or worrying about who he’s fighting inside of the Octagon.

“I’m the guy that makes the phone calls and here are people going ‘Yeah, I’m not gonna take that fight’ or ‘I’m not gonna do this’ or ‘I’m not gonna do that.’ Never has Conor McGregor said that.”

Fans Must Respect The King

For White, he believes that the fight fans can hate McGregor all they want but they have to respect him even after the Floyd Mayweather fight last August where he suffered a tenth-round TKO loss.

“You can hate Conor all you want; you’ve got to respect it,” White said. “And I think McGregor has gotten to a point that when he first came in, a lot of the other fighters were looking at him like ‘oh, he’s this hype train’, they see now that he’s more than that. Especially even after the Mayweather fight. Look how well he did in that fight. Conor McGregor is the real deal, man.”

Dana White Unveils New Meeting With Conor McGregor

Dana White has another appointment to meet with Conor McGregor:

UFC President Dana White says he has a new meeting set up with Conor McGregor, who hasn’t stepped foot in the cage since 2016.

McGregor infamously got himself into hot water (as well as legal trouble) after attacking a bus containing UFC fighters in Brooklyn right before UFC 223. “Notorious” was looking for his nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov, but ended up injuring several other fighters while Khabib went unharmed.

White told TMZ on Wednesday that he will be meeting with McGregor on June 18th, after an attempted meeting during the weekend of UFC Liverpool didn’t end up happening for whatever reason:

”He and I are meeting on the 18th of this month. I don’t know whats gonna happen. I don’t know what Conor has planned. I don’t know what Conor and his team have worked on.”

McGregor will be in Brooklyn on Thursday for another court appearance regarding his arrest for the bus attack. The Irishman faces charges of assault, which has kept him sidelined until the case is adjudicated.

He and White have another date set to hash things out and hopefully get McGregor back into the cage soon. While he did box Floyd Mayweather last August, McGregor hasn’t defended either of his UFC titles he earned nor has he fought in the octagon almost two years.

Do you expect to see McGregor back in the UFC anytime soon? Or will White’s meeting with McGregor get canceled again?
