One of the first hard lessons we all learn growing up is that not many things in life are certain. There are absolutely no guarantees and nothing is set in stone, so they say.

However, on the contrary, there are always exceptions to the rules and one thing in this crazy world that is guaranteed is that when something rubs him the wrong way, Chael Sonnen is going to be vocal about it, and you can take that to the bank.

True to his persona that we’ve all become acquainted with, the former middleweight title challenger made his voice heard on the increasingly volatile situation developing between the McGregor camp, UFC President Dana White and the rest of the UFC brass (and the fans, if we’re being literal here).

As you likely know by now, unless you’ve been living in the remote Amazon jungle this past week, Conor McGregor has had some animated exchanges with Dana White regarding his standing in July’s UFC 200 card. First, he announced his retirement in a tweet, then White announced that he was pulling McGregor from the card all together. After a few more exchanges via social media and press conferences, it was finally determined that the featherweight champion was officially off the card.

Conor McGregor John Kavanagh

In the heat of this back and forth battle, McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, let his feelings about the issue be known to the public, only his opinions on the matter, as Sonnen so keenly pointed out, were somewhat contradictory to what his long-time student had been saying.

His coach cannot be putting anything out about him ever. Period. Ever. Because he doesn’t get it! Conor cannot put a post saying ‘money made, bills paid, game slayed. Your move,’ which means ‘I do not care what happens, I’m handled either way. It’s your move.’ He can’t do that and three days later have you [Kavanagh] come out saying hey fans, please petition and get him back.”

Sonnen then went on to further explain that not only is Kavanaugh contradicting what his fighter is saying, he’s making himself and the whole team look bad.

“It’s never good for a trainer or manager to do this. Whether it comes from a good place or not, you look like you’re trying to get paid…If one guy is sitting there, and the whole hand he’s playing is ‘I got enough, I don’t need to do it. Won the title, got the money, don’t care, having a great life.’ That’s a pretty good hand! But you can’t show cracks in it.”

“You’re talking about UFC 200, UFC in New York, and why we’re blacklisted. Wait a minute, I thought the game was slayed, the bills were paid, and the money was made? That was their move! Now you’re begging to get on a card?? You guys have got to get on the same page. You want to hustle some hustlers, you better be on the same page! You can’t have one guy say I don’t give a damn, and have his trainer say ‘boy, we sure would like to fight, can someone send some tweets in our favor?’ It doesn’t work!”

“You want to fight. You need the fight. The bills are not paid, the money is not made, and the game damn sure hasn’t been slayed. That’s the reality. We all knew that, and it was cool when it came out, but your own guy outed you.”

The issue of coaches speaking for their fighters and creating more controversy than there needs to be has been a recurring theme over the years, and in Kavanagh’s case, he’s been on both the good and bad side of the fence with this issue. However, in this instance, Sonnen is right on the money with his accusation.

Either way, as we’ve come to learn from the UFC brass, the squeaky wheel doesn’t always get the oil, and Conor will not be gracing the UFC 200 card with his presence.

Jon Jones’ Crack Dealer, DC ‘Little B*tch’ & More From The UFC 200 Presser

The UFC 200 press conference was in full swing this week, moving ahead without featherweight champion Conor McGregor and his welterweight rival Nate Diaz. Instead, we were reintroduced to the ever seething feud between current light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and his predecessor Jon Jones. It was just yesterday (Wednesday April 27, 2016) that the UFC took over ‘Good Morning America’ on ABC for a bizarre and somewhat awkward half hour segment. Their intention was to announce the UFC 200 main event between ‘DC’ and ‘Bones,’ but in typical fashion as of late, the news was leaked a good half hour before the promotion had intended.

The press conference held later that afternoon may have paled in comparison to live stream viewers to the Diaz/McGregor Youtube hit (220K to 33K to be precise) but it was nonetheless a highly entertaining peak at the next milestone pay-per-view.

The highlight of the UFC 200 press conference was without doubt the beef between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. The two rivals always find it hard to hide their feelings, and it always leads to some classic viewing. In this case, the fired up New York crowd actually added in a big part to the madness, as one fan asked Jones if his crack dealer would be present at UFC 200. Watch the video starting at the 29:55 mark to see the awkwardness:

Wow, talk about cringe worthy. So what else was good at the eventful UFC 200 presser? Thanks to the UFC’s official Yotube channel once again, we’ve got some diamond moments from the stacked presser to look at. Possibly the most rib tickling section was when Jones jumped up and demonstrated how he made ‘DC’ his ‘bitch’ when they fought the first time at UFC 182 last January.

Also noteworthy was Cormier’s best ‘stats Nazi’ impression, Miesha Tate just being generally awesome, and Amanda Nunes doing her best to get some trash talk going.

Enjoy!

As noted, UFC held the official ticket on-sale press conference for their landmark UFC 200 event scheduled for July 9th. During the presser, UFC President Dana White further addressed the ongoing saga between the UFC and Conor McGregor.

McGregor was originally scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in an immediate 170-pound rematch at UFC 200, however he was pulled from the event when he refused to take part in his promotional commitments surrounding the event.

At Wednesday’s presser, White reiterated his belief that McGregor isn’t fighting at UFC 200 because of McGregor, not the UFC.

“I didn’t prevent Conor from fighting at UFC 200,” White said on Wednesday in New York. “I did not.”

White continued, “If you look at the press conference, Joanna Jedrzejczyk who flew in to the press conference from Poland, Claudia came in from Brazil, [Aldo] flew in from Brazil. People came in from all over the world, Frankie’s just getting home and hasn’t seen his family. This is what we do. This is how it works. I didn’t prevent him from fighting in UFC 200. He knew what the deal was, I told him what the deal was, and he opted to do that.”

White continued, addressing the future of McGregor in the UFC in general.

“Conor’s going to fight again. He’s going to fight at UFC 201, 202, 203, whatever the deal might be, we’ll so how this, you know, what’s next, when that plays out. Listen, 200 is the fight everybody’s been looking forward to for a long time. It is what it is. The show’s going to roll on and Conor’s going to fight again.”

UFC 200: Cormier vs. Jones II is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Another UFC 200 press conference, and another media event dominated by an absent Conor McGregor. Even though the milestone event had the blockbuster rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones announced as the main event the very same day, there was still so many questions surrounding ‘The Notorious’ and his removal from the event. Originally set to face Nate Diaz in a rematch of their UFC 196 thriller, McGregor’s second crack at welterweight fell apart in just a matter of days during a dramatic saga last week.

Firstly announcing his sudden but short lived retirement on Twitter, McGregor fuelled the flames of rumour as to his participation in the UFC 200 main event. Then as the news unravelled further, it was revealed that the point of contention wasn’t McGregor’s pseudo retirement, rather his unwillingness to attend his initial media obligations for the Diaz fight.

ConorPulledFromUFC200

The apparent rift between McGregor and the UFC grew to the point that he was yanked from the July 9 PPV, but there was still the suspicion that a pro-wrestling style ploy was at hand. Then came the first UFC 200 presser, and what do you think everyone was talking about?
Yes, even in the absence of the Irish fan favorite, McGregor was the name on the lips of all present, but White insisted this was no scam, ‘The Notorious’ would not be fighting at UFC 200. A further announcement by McGregor that he was reinstated for the fight was immediately shot down by a confused Dana White, and Nate Diaz revealed he would be ‘going on vacation’ if not fighting Conor at UFC 200.

But a rather interesting and entertaining second press conference went down in New York yesterday (Wednesday April 27, 2016) were the UFC president addressed both the issues of Diaz’s next fight and the McGregor saga…

Frankie Edgar Believes Interim Belt Is For The Real Title

The fighters for UFC 200 are going around the country doing media obligations to promote the big event in July. Earlier today, the UFC was in New York City and on Good Morning America, Dana White announced that Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones would headline the main event.

Further down the card is a quiet interim featherweight title fight between Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo. The fight is for the interim belt since McGregor was originally planned to fight Diaz but both have been pulled from the card entirely after Mystic Mac refused to do media obligations. Many have criticized the interim belt like Jon Jones, but Frankie Edgar is fine with fighting for the interim belt.

“It’s the number one contender belt, that’s what you call it,” Edgar said at the New York press conference.  “I have a feeling Conor may never come back down to 45, so interim will be for the real belt.”

So it seems that Frankie Edgar has the mentality that the belt he is fighting for in July will be for the real belt. White has speculated that McGregor would fight at UFC 201, 202, or even 203 but without a specific opponent in mind. It makes sense for the featherweight champ have to fight the winner of Edgar/Aldo but it isn’t sure if the McGregor/Diaz fight will be postponed entirely or if McGregor has a different opponent in mind.

Daniel Cormier Reacts To UFC 200 Announcement

After the UFC pulled Conor McGregor from his scheduled UFC 200 headliner against Nate Diaz, the promotion was in search of a new main event for the blockbuster July 9, 2016 card from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The search is no more, however, as UFC President Dana White announced this morning (April 27, 2016) on Good Morning America that reigning light heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier would rematch former divisional kingpin Jon “Bones” Jones in the evening’s main attraction.

The two first met at January 2015’s UFC 182 with Jones soundly defeating Cormier, but “Bones” would soon run into a plethora of legal issues forcing the UFC to strip him of his title, and giving Cormier the chance to slide in and capture the vacant strap.

After nearly 16 months on the sidelines, Jones finally returned to action at this past weekend’s (April 23, 2016) UFC 197, scoring a unanimous decision victory over late replacement opponent Ovince St. Preux.

Cormier was supposed to meet Jones on the card, but he was forced to withdraw after suffering a leg injury in training.

After tuning into see a somewhat rusty Jones show up at UFC 197, Cormier recently took to his official Instagram to bash “Bones”, saying that the rematch will be ‘light work’:

While “DC”, a former Olympian, is undoubtedly a decorated fighter, he shouldn’t look too much into Jones’ most recent performance.

After spending so much time away from the sport, it’s understandable that the former champion may have needed some time to get back into the swing of things, and we’ve all seen how deadly Jones is when he’s at his best which he claims he will be when it’s time to meet Cormier.

Will “DC” finally be able to break “Bones”, or will Jones recapture his title on July 9th?
