Ever since Daniel Cormier beat Stipe Miocic to win the heavyweight title, many fans wanted to see Cormier vs. Jon Jones 3 at heavyweight. Since then, the rumors of a trilogy fight continue to take place, but there has been no confirmation if it will ever happen.

Now, at the UFC summer press conference, “DC” believes the trilogy fight can happen whenever.

“So this is the thing about a fight with Jones and I. It can always happen,” Cormier said (h/t MMA Fighting). “It can happen. Whether it’s here, whether it’s in an Octagon. It may happen in the back when I’m leaving the building. It just always happens. Neither him nor I ever shy away from the opportunity to punch each other in the face.

“So when I’m done with Stipe and Dana opens up the book and goes this is what you guys are getting paid, then you guys may get a third fight. But ultimately that’s what’s gonna determine it.”

There is no question the trilogy fight would be a massive fight and a massive payday for both fighters. But, Daniel Cormier has said he was going to retire before his 40th birthday, which now will not happen. However, “DC” says he is feeling much better and isn’t sure when he will retire, but will need to fight Miocic first before a potential Jon Jones fight.

“After back surgery, I felt worse initially. But now I feel better,” Cormier said. “I go into the gym now and I’m not leaned over. There were a lot of times where I would get off the wall after training and have to walk myself out of my back hurting. I would lean over at the waist and walk up to be straight, I couldn’t just stand straight. Now that I got this thing fixed and my training’s going well, I feel better than ever.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans guarantees a heavyweight fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier would go differently.

Jones and Cormier have fought each other twice at light heavyweight, with the former coming out on top on both occasions.

However, Cormier is now the heavyweight champion and there have been talks of Jones moving up to face him in a trilogy fight. If it ever did occur, Evans believes it won’t go the same way as the first two fights.

“I think if Jon Jones did fight DC at heavyweight it’d be a totally different fight. I think Jon Jones knows that, he is a very smart fighter,” Evans said on MMA Tonight (via Bloody Elbow). “I think he has a better chance of beating DC at 205 because when DC makes 205, it’s not only the fact that he’s gotta face Jon Jones’ skills — because that’s one thing in itself.

“But then he has to worry about facing himself on a physical sense. How much did he deplete his body during the weight cut? That seems to be what causes the damage later on in the fight when he can’t absorb a shot to the head because he doesn’t have enough fluid in his head because he’s dehydrated. That’s what happens when you cut too much weight.”

Advantages At Heavyweight For Cormier

Cormier has fought at heavyweight twice now and certainly looks much better and healthier too.

Evans believes “DC” fighting at his natural weight class also makes him more durable and strong.

“At heavyweight he is a little bit more durable,” Evans added. “He has this strength at heavyweight that he doesn’t have at 205. It’d be interesting to see the matchup at heavyweight because I guarantee it’d be a lot different fight.”

Jones seems to understand this as well. Last week, he claimed his greatest chance of losing was to Cormier at heavyweight. He also added he was not prepared to give his longtime rival any physical advantages.

“Daniel Cormier is a special athlete and everyone can be beat,” Jones said. “I think my greatest chance of losing would be to a guy like Daniel Cormier, with giving him a power and strength advantage over me, it just doesn’t make sense.

“Right now I make light heavyweight very easily and it just wouldn’t make no sense to fight a guy who I think technically [is] on your level, and to give him a size advantage, I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it. I’m sure my fans don’t like to hear me talk like that, but that’s just me being a realist and being respectful to Daniel’s abilities.”

Daniel Cormier Reveals Retirement Plans, Eyes Two Huge Fights

Cormier has doubled down on his exit strategy from MMA.

The post Daniel Cormier Reveals Retirement Plans, Eyes Two Huge Fights appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Daniel Cormier reveals his retirement plans as he’s eyeing two big fights before stepping away from the sport of MMA.

Since July, there has been a lot of speculation whether or not Cormier would defend his 205-division belt before he decides to walk away. The UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion is supposed to make his first heavyweight title defense against Brock Lesnar as the king of the 265-pound division in January of 2019.

If Cormier actually goes through with fighting two more times, it’s possible that the promotion books him in January or February against Lesnar. Then, pushes his fight against Jon Jones to March or April. Either way, it would be a big risk by DC.

“DC’s” Plan

Well, “DC” recently went on record by stating that he plans to fight Lesnar then his archrival in Jones. However, if he can’t fight Lesnar first then he’s willing to give Stipe Miocic another shot at the crown.

”If Lesnar can’t fight, I’d fight Stipe,” Cormier told TMZ Sports. “But it’s gonna be Jones at least. Lesnar and Jones. Lesnar first, Jones after.”

Cormier scored a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title in the main event of the UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. DC has also made it known that he wants his third fight against Jones to be at light heavyweight.

”I want to fight Jones at 205,” he said (H/T to MMAMania). “Because that’s where he beat me. He beat me at 205. I want to beat him where he beat me. And I think Jon and I are on the same wavelength in that sense … and we’re never on the same wavelength. We don’t agree on anything. It’s always going to be that intense.”

What The Boss Says

This is against what UFC President Dana White has been saying, which is the fight would go down at heavyweight.

“But both of us want to fight at 205 and ultimately … Dana is a powerful guy but ultimately what we decide is what we’re going to do. And if both of us say we’re going to fight at 205, that’s where we’re going to fight.”

Jon Jones Rips Daniel Cormier Over Recent USADA Comments

Jon Jones rips Daniel Cormier in his most recent rant that was shared on his official Instagram account over some comments DC made.

History

Their first fight went down back on January 3, 2015, at UFC 182 where Jones picked up the decision win.

The two fighters have competed against each other a total of two times. The second fight went down when the UFC light heavyweight champion lost to Jones by third-round TKO in the main event of UFC 214. This fight went down in July 2017 in Anaheim, California on PPV (pay-per-view). It was revealed after the fight that Jones tested positive for Turinabol.

As a result of that failed drug test, Jones was stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title and removed from the official UFC rankings. The promotion then reinstated Cormier as the champion. However, Jones is back after he was cleared of his suspension once late October rolls around, he is allowed to fight again.

Jon Jones Rips Daniel Cormier

Earlier this week, the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion noted in a photo on his Twitter account of his cell phone’s locked screen showing a missed call from USADA and voiced his annoyance with them. This has led to Jones firing back at DC by posting this lengthy rant:

You mad, Bro? USADA keeps calling but you’re not going to pick up the phone because the second you hear them say I’m innocent is the instant the illusion you’ve created shatters. Then it’s all real AGAIN and that’s not a step you’re willing to take. Instead you wrap yourself in your fake belt and keep telling yourself the shin that slammed into your face and the performance that buried you once again was enhanced. The fact you can’t beat me kills you and it stops you from picking up that phone. If you answer it then the nightmare becomes reality.

Then again, maybe you do pick up, accept the truth that you were defeated by a superior fighter and that gives you peace. Or it goes another way and you get motivated to try a third time and that will save me the hassle of having to dig you up before I bury you. So now that the illusion you’ve built is crumbling and the “violation was not intended nor could it have enhanced the athlete’s performance” you still have to tell yourself something yeah? And while there was “absolutely no intention to use prohibited substances,” it was my intention to kick your *** once again. Mission accomplished. Pick up the phone #letstalkaboutit

USADA Denies Accepting Payoffs In Jon Jones Case

USADA has addressed these rumors.

The post USADA Denies Accepting Payoffs In Jon Jones Case appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Jon Jones is still waiting for word back by USADA regarding his latest failed drug test but there have been some wild rumors going around.

Jones failed an in-competition drug test for Turinabol at UFC 214 after he beat Daniel Cormier by third-round TKO. This fight took place in the main event in July of 2017 in Anaheim, California.

As a result of that failed drug test, he was stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title. He was also removed from the official UFC rankings.

Back in February, it was revealed that the CSAC revoked Jones’ MMA license and fined him $205,000. Many considered that this hearing that would determine Jones’ fate as a result of this drug test. Now, he’s waiting to hear the decision made by USADA.

It’s known that Jones and his camp have been optimistic about their chances of competing inside of the Octagon this year. Manager Malki Kawa has gone on record by stating that he hopes Jones fights before the end of 2018.

Also, his striking coach Brandon Gibson expressed excitement over Jones developing one-punch knockout power. However, it appears more likely that he won’t fight this year.

There have been rumors about USADA allegedly taking payoffs in this case involving the former UFC light heavyweight champion. Obviously, that’s not the case.

In a written statement, USADA spokesperson Danielle Eurich told MMAjunkie, “In relation to some media and social media comments we have observed, USADA wishes to clarify that under no circumstances do we receive payments as part of the resolution of cases.”

Daniel Cormier Refuses To Respond To Jon Jones Over GOAT Comments

Daniel Cormier has sounded off on the latest comments made by Jon Jones.

Daniel Cormier has sounded off on the latest comments made by Jon Jones.

The UFC light heavyweight champion is slated to fight UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at the upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view event.

The promotion recently sent out a tweet that questioned if DC would be the GOAT if he is able to win at this event.

This is when Jones had a problem and mocked his arch-rival on his official Twitter account.

Now, DC has commented on Jones’ latest shot at him through an interview with CBS Sports. As for the reason that Cormier didn’t respond, it’s due to him refusing to give a platform since he is on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

“[Jones] doesn’t have a platform and I refuse to give him a platform,” Cormier said. “He’s a nobody. He has been suspended again. He’s mired in controversy for drug abuse. Your issues are tied to steroids, performance enhancers. You don’t get a platform when you’re like that. It’s like me glorifying Lance Armstrong.”

“[Jones] won the fight but, hey, since USADA has gotten involved with the UFC, he only fought one time,” Cormier said. “He has had four fights scheduled. So he fought Ovince and he fought me but that second one was a no-contest. The Ovince fight was the only time he fought and there was no controversy surrounding it. So I’m pretty sure there was some dirty stuff going on [in our first fight]. That’s why the test results were all jacked up in December.”

Their first fight went down back on January 3, 2015, at UFC 182 where Jones picked up the decision win.

The two fighters have competed against each other a total of two times. The second fight went down when the UFC light heavyweight champion lost to Jones by third-round TKO in the main event of UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California on PPV (pay-per-view). It was revealed after the fight that Jones tested positive for Turinabol.

“This whole Jon Jones thing has been marred in controversy and never on my behalf,” Cormier said. “So I can’t let that dictate how I approach my career in any way, shape or form. I didn’t do those bad things. I didn’t do steroids. I didn’t get taken out of a fight for steroid abuse once and test positive for steroids a second time. I didn’t get, before the first fight, having rinky-dinky tests to start. There are so many reasons why I shouldn’t be tied to him anymore and I’ve gotten back to the point now where it doesn’t affect me.”
