Jon Jones may have a nice gift waiting for him when he comes back from his yearlong suspension: a UFC light heavyweight championship fight.

In an interview on the UFC Unfiltered podcast (h/t FoxSports.com’s Damon Martin), UFC President Dana White said he expects Jones to face off against the winner of Daniel Cormier’s title defense against Anthony Johnson at UFC 210 on April 8.

“[Jones] is supposed to return around July, so the timing is perfect,” White said. “I haven’t talked to him. I haven’t talked to [Jones] since the whole incident. Depending on where Jon’s head is and where he thinks he is, I would assume he would come right back and try to get his title back.”

In November, the United States Anti-Doping Agency suspended Jones for one year after he tested positive for banned substances. Two estrogen blockers showed up on an out-of-competition drug test from Jones last June.

His suspension began retroactive to July 6, 2016, so he’d be eligible to return to the Octagon this summer.

Jones was set to fight Cormier at UFC 200 on July 9, but UFC removed him from the card following USADA’s notification of his failed drug test. UFC cameras captured the moment White told Cormier of Jones’ infraction (Note: Sequence begins at the 4:13 mark of the video below, and the video contains NSFW language):

Anderson Silva replaced Jones on the card, and Cormier earned a unanimous decision.

White’s stance on Jones appears to have softened in recent months. He told TMZ Sports in November that he wasn’t speaking to the former lightweight champion. Shortly thereafter, he said on the Jim Rome Show (via Martin) that he couldn’t envision Jones in the main event of a pay-per-view anytime soon.

I would never take the risk of headlining a show with [Jones] again,” White said. “I’d put him on the card, but I wouldn’t headline with him until he can consistently get back on track.”

A rematch between Cormier and Jones in particular would put White’s resolve to the test. Even with Jones out of action for over a year—his last fight was against Ovince Saint Preux last April—fans would be clamoring to see him and Cormier finally face off again.

Gina Carano doesn’t think Ronda Rousey needs to ever fight in the UFC again, but not everyone in the mixed martial arts (MMA) community seems to agree.

Following Rousey’s second consecutive career loss this past December, when she was knocked out in just 48 seconds of the first round by Amanda Nunes, much speculation began to swirl as to whether or not ‘Rowdy’ would ever fight again. Former women’s MMA star Gina Carano recently told Fight Hub TV (quotes via FOX Sports) that she believes Rousey needs to express herself as an artist outside of the Octagon:

“I think Ronda should do whatever she wants to do. She’s only 29,” Carano said. “She’s an amazing athlete but she needs to express herself as an artist, too. So let her do what she wants to do and just follow along her journey and support her.”

Apparently UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier doesn’t agree with Carano’s assessment of the situation, and sounded off on the former Strikeforce and EliteXC star during a recent episode of UFC Tonight:

“Gina Carano — who are you to tell Ronda Rousey what to do?” Cormier said.  “If I’ve got to look back on your career and you choosing to act over fighting and continuing to fight, I don’t feel as though, guys — and you can disagree if you want — that the career has not been what it would have been if she stayed fighting.”

Cormier offered his own advice to the former 135-pound women’s champ, telling her to continue her fighting career unlike Carano who in his opinion ‘didn’t make the right choice’. He also took a jab at Carano’s first major film role in “Haywire” where her voice was altered after production wrapped up:

“Ronda, don’t listen to someone that I feel didn’t make the right choice,” Cormier said. “Do what I say and that means continuing to fight. It’s where you belong. It is where you belong Ronda Rousey.

“You belong in the Octagon. With the Octagon comes other opportunities.  You don’t want to end up on shows where they’re dubbing over your voice the entire time you’re in the movie.”

What do you think fight fans? Is ‘DC’ blowing the whole situation out of proportion? Or should Rousey continue her career in MMA despite her recent road bumps?

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had a rather frustrating 2016.

Cormier was scheduled to fight rival Jon Jones at UFC 197 in April of last year, but pulled out of the fight due to a leg injury. The fight was remade for that July’s UFC 200, but again the fight was cancelled due to Jones testing positive for a PED. Although Cormier fought and beat a smaller Anderson Silva, he could not hide the disappointment that  he could not prove himself against Jones yet again.

Things didn’t get better for the champ when his rematch with Anthony Johnson at UFC 206 fell through due to a groin injury.

It was recently been announced that he and “Rumble” will face off again at UFC 210 in April, speaking on The Luke Thomas Show yesterday, Cormier expressed how excited he is to get back into the Octagon and fight.

“I’m excited. Just last year was a very, very tough year, having to pull out of two fights, only getting to fight once. I usually fight a lot. 2015 I fought three times, I fought three of the best guys in the entire world. And last year, to only get one fight in, a three-round fight at that, it was tough. I feel excited now because I get to go back and do what I love to do, which is fight.”

“DC” also believes that Jones should fight somebody first before he is granted another title shot, but there may not be much of a point to that, as Cormier admits that he’s the only fighter he specifically game plans for.

“It’s very difficult to say that he doesn’t get a title shot because of who he is. For him competitively, he probably should fight somebody first because it’s been so long in between fights but I just don’t know if he’ll be granted that opportunity. I fight in April, July is when he comes back. If he wants to fight right back in July, that would be a pretty quick turn around for me… So he would essentially have to end up waiting for me which would put him more time on the shelf, or he would try to fight before.”

“I’m not really worried about what Anthony Johnson does. I have to worry about what I do to prepare myself. If I can be completely honest with you, the only guy that I actually watch what he does – try to game plan for him specifically – is [Jon] Jones. Because I know that against the rest of those guys my skills will outweigh their skills in the fight.

“I have to be specifically prepared for Jones because his skill set is so diverse and so unique, whereas Anthony is a big puncher, a big kicker. There are ten guys in the division like that. You don’t see many Jon Jones’s. Every heavyweight punches hard like Anthony does. Every 205 pounder’s fast. There are a lot of guys that mimic his type of style whereas there’s only one Jones so I feel like he’s the only guy that I specifically game plan for.”

Cormier is still be chomping at the bit to get his rematch with Jones but first he has to get through a knockout machine in Johnson, who has been on a tear, winning his last three fights all by KO.

Do you think “DC” will break “Rumble” once again, or will that cannon land on Cormier’s chin for possibly looking past one of the UFC’s most powerful strikers?

In the famous words of Dr. Pepper, what’s the worse that could happen?

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been around the block recently. After joining the UFC back in 2008, ‘Bones’ quickly made a name for himself inside the octagon. Little did we know at the time, he’d also become infamous for his actions outside the UFC. Wins against Brandon Vera, Ryan Bader and Stephan Bonnar would lead to a 2011 title fight with Shogun Rua. Jones, in unique yet brutal showing, decimated the former Pride FC champion.

Four years and eight title defenses later, Jones’ UFC career was hanging on by a thread. How, we asked, was such a talented young man being led down such a dark path? After his last title fight against Daniel Cormier, ‘Bones’ had some real trouble to face. The highly controversial hit-and-run in New Mexico only added to the list of naughtiness that Jones had in his copybook. The failed drug test for cocaine, the DUI in 2012, and now this. Following a year of soul-searching and getting clean, ‘Bones’ came back.

Return & Exit

Returning at UFC 197, Jones faced Ovince St-Preux in the champion Daniel Cormier’s absence. Winning the interim title, ‘Bones’ was set for a huge rematch with ‘DC’ at UFC 200. Again facing bad times, Jones was flagged by USADA and subsequently benched for another year. With just two fights in the last three years, the troubled New Yorker is eyeing a return at some point this summer. For now, he’s back in the gym lifting weights, and doing fan expos for GAT, his new supplement endorsement.

Where will he be showing up next? Oh, just the cocaine capital of the world, Medellin, Colombia. Wait, what? As per Jon Jones’ Instagram:
