The Aussie takes on Darren Till who is looking to make it two in a row since moving up from welterweight.

Round 1: Darren Til charges in from the off and eats a jab. Robert Whittaker lands another nice jab early. Both fighters clash and Whittaker ends up on the floor from an elbow. He looks hurts for a second and Till tries to dive on him. The former champ survives the barrage and gets back to his feet. Till is starting to get his strikes off. He lands a huge elbow and some nice left hands. The Englishman is getting loose. He’s throwing big punches and kicks – many of which are landing. Whittaker is starting to settle down now. He’s starting to get off his own offence now. Whittaker lands a big straight right hand. A low kick from the Aussie just before the bell sounds to end round one.

Round 2: Till over commits and is made to pay at the start of round two. Whittaker launches in with an overhand right and gets the knock down. He follows his opponent down. Till smartly closes the guard and is able to stifle the attack of Whittaker. Not for long though. Whittaker is landing big elbows and nasty ground and pound. The former champ lands three consecutive elbows. Till is eating them but not defending. He manages to get back to his feet and the fight goes back to the middle. Till looks busted up. Whittaker looks light on his feet. Till is following his opponent around the octagon, feinting a lot but not throwing. Every so often Whittaker throws something big to keep Till honest. Big head kick from Till, Whittaker blocks well but that sounded powerful. The rounds ends.

Round 3: Whittaker opens up with a big low leg kick. Till returns with a nice uppercut. Both men clearly respect the other. Lot’s of hesitation which is proceeded by explosive flurries – don’t blink! Till seems to have taken an eye poke. He’s blinking but waving on Whittaker at the same time. As the Aussie jumps in Till fires of a huge knee up the middle. Whittaker shoots for the takedown but quickly bails. Whittaker fakes the takedown but fires a overhand over the top which just misses. He again shoots but is easily shrugged off. ‘The Reaper’ continues to swing wild and Till remains composed as a very close round three draws to a close.

Round 4: Till more aggressive at the start of round four after telling his corner of an injury. Lot’s of feints from Whittaker who is trying to set traps. Till isn’t biting – at least not yet. In the UFC Fight Island 3 main event Robert Whittaker returns to the Octagon for the first time since losing the middleweight title to Israel Adesanya. He faces off against English standout Darren Till who made a successful 185lb debut last time out beating Kelvin Gastelum over three rounds. The winner will move one step closer to a shot at UFC gold. Who will that be? Let’s find out what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I’m going Darren Till in this one. Not only because he is a fellow scouser but because I think he is a force to be reckoned with – especially at 185lbs. I expect him to win the technical striking battle before finding a knockout punch in the middle rounds. Whittaker although a great fighter on his day is coming off a considerable layoff that was triggered by a huge knockout loss. I don’t expect the Aussie to be at his best tonight. For that reason, I think he will struggle against Till.

Prediction: Darren Till

Abhinav Kini: I think Robert Whittaker will return with a bang. He’s had a long break since his knockout defeat to Israel Adesanya and seems to be refreshed and hungry again. I also feel he’s superior to Till in every area and should get the knockout win.

Prediction: Robert Whittaker

Harry O’Connor: I think Till will try to play this fight like he did the Gastelum one, I think he will try and stay out of range with his kicks and jab and go for a points decision, however, I think Whittaker will stick it on Till a lot better than Gastelum did and there will be a lot more engagement. I think Rob will win by unanimous decision.

Prediction: Robert Whittaker

Ryan Maccarthy: Till stands a slight edge in fighting inside his preferences, which could lead to Whittaker over committing and eating one on the chin in my opinion. The stand-up game is Till’s advantage here and I think he plays this fight right with a defensive-minded approach and catching Whittaker coming in for the 3rd round TKO.

Prediction: Darren Till

Jack Hermansson Is ‘Definitely Rooting’ For Robert Whittaker Against Darren Till

Jack Hermansson

Middleweight contender Jack Hermansson is hoping former 185lb king Robert Whittaker will emerge victorious against Darren Till in the UFC Fight Island 3 main event.

Hermansson picked up one of the biggest wins of his career last weekend when he quickly tapped Kelvin Gastelum at the Flash Forum Arena in Abu Dhabi. Post-fight he spoke about wanting to fight whoever wins when Whittaker and Till square off.

Since then, Till has shut down the possibility he will be facing Hermansson next. The Englishman says once he gets by Whittaker, he will not entertain anything but a shot at the title.

As a result of those comments, Hermansson is now “definitely rooting” for the former middleweight champion to get the win.

“I’m definitely rooting for Whittaker,” Hermansson said to MMA Fighting. “Just because they need to give Robert Whittaker someone else [other than the champion]. Hopefully they’ll feel the same.

“If Till wins, it’s very likely they’ll put him for the title. That’s how it works when you’re a big draw for him but I personally want Whittaker to win.”

Not only does ‘The Joker’ want Whittaker to get the win he also believes the Aussie has got all the tool to make it happen.

“I see Robert Whittaker coming off with the win actually,” Hermansson said. “I can see Robert Whittaker having those skills that Darren Till doesn’t handle too well like the explosiveness and the leg kicks that he does. The fast combination striking, I think that’s going to be a problem for Darren Till.

“Whittaker covers distance very well and Till can be a little bit open in the middle. He can also be a little too flatfooted so I think that’s going to be a problem against Robert Whittaker.”

Do you think Jack Hermansson will get his wish? Will Robert Whittaker beat Darren Till tomorrow night?

Darren Till Will Avoid Wars That Have Gaethje & Holloway Slurring Speech

Darren Till

As Liverpool native Darren Till prepares for his main event meeting this weekend with Robert Whittaker, Till isn’t counting on Whittaker’s chin being compromised after several brutal battles in consecutive contests. But he also understands it’s impossible for those kinds of fights not to take a toll over time.

“One big thing I’ve always known throughout my career, the wars take the toll on you, and whoever you are, you can see them taking the toll,” Till told MMA Fighting during the media day this week.

“No disrespect, but when you look at guys like Gaethje and I look at Holloway now, and sometimes I seem glimpses of them slurring a little bit cause of the wars they’ve been in. All respect to the wars, but it ain’t a smart choice when you’re fighting.”

“So I think them wars, they take the toll on you, and they do take the toll on your chin. I think anyone I touch anyway at middleweight, I found myself I’m going to hurt with that left hand but we’ll see.”

While Till has mostly avoided fights like Whittaker had with Romero in the past, Till isn’t running away from something like this, i.e. his fight with Jorge Masvidal.

That fight accelerated Till’s move to middleweight, but he knows the mistake made against Masvidal is one he absolutely cannot afford against someone like Robert Whittaker.

“Always stick to the game plan,” Till said about his strategy, “If only I had done it against Masvidal, I would probably be on the cover of EA Sports right now.”

“You can’t fight every fight [with] perfection, and it’s not like that. The fight game is certainly not like that, especially in MMA. That’s why it doesn’t matter who you’re fighting, they could have a big belly, you can never underestimate or overlook any fighter. I sort of overlooked Masvidal a bit because he was a bit tinier. I beat Stephen Thompson and Stephen Thompson beat him comfortably. Maybe I did. Maybe on my part I did [underestimate him], but you live and you learn.”

Darren Till certainly gives an interesting perespective about his mindset going into this massive fight.

What do you think? Is Darren Till taking a defensive approach for this fight the right move? How do you see this fight playing out?
