Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is itching to remind everyone how great he is.

Woodley lost his welterweight title to Kamaru Usman last March, ending a near three-year reign as the 170-pound king. Unlike other champions, though, Woodley was not given an immediate rematch.

Instead, he is now scheduled to face Leon Edwards in the UFC London headliner on March 21. It’s not a fight that Woodley wanted, especially as he felt he should have gotten a rematch.

After all, in his reign as champion, he defeated top contenders such as Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia and Darren Till. His win over Till, in particular, is one that Woodley holds in high regard especially given the narrative going into it:

“It’s only so long ago, Darren Till, an up and coming fighter that everyone thought was so much bigger than me, so much more powerful,” Woodley said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday. “He was going to back me down, beat me up. You think about me being able to do that [beat him], it was very significant. The way that I beat him, how I did it.”

Woodley, of course, knocked Till down in the second round of their UFC 228 fight back in September 2018. He proceeded to land brutal ground and pound before submitting the Liverpool native.

Given his overall body of work as the champion and how he defeated a number of top guys such as Till, Woodley feels his legacy will be viewed better only once he’s retired from the sport:

“I stuck true to myself,” he added of the win over Till. “I didn’t allow any second thought to affect me. My legacy is already going to greater when I walk away than it was when I was actually competing.”

Should Woodley defeat Edwards, he still isn’t sure if he will get a title shot. However, if he does go on to challenge Usman and potentially become champion again, his legacy will only continue grow.

What do you think of Woodley’s comments?

Darren Till Not Injured, Hasn’t Got ‘Right Deal’ To Fight Jared Cannonier

Darren Till claims it is money, not an injury, that is holding up a potential fight with Jared Cannonier.

Cannonier was originally scheduled to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 on March 7. However, the latter had to pull out for undisclosed personal reasons. Many have since called for Till to be the obvious replacement to step in and face Cannonier.

However, UFC president Dana White recently revealed that Till was nursing an injured ankle and would not be able to replace Whittaker.

Not according to the Liverpool native, though.

He claims he has a few niggles but nothing that would prevent him from fighting. Instead, his management finding the right deal is the only roadblock at this point.

“When I heard Rob was injured I was already working hard in the gym so we upped a bit knowing I could get the call for March 7,” Till told Jim Edwards. “I’ve had a few little niggles, as always, but I’m still willing and able.

“My management haven’t got the right deal yet, but I’m hopeful we can still make it happen. Mark my words, I’m scared of no one.”

Cannonier vs. Till would certainly be a huge and pivotal matchup in the middleweight division if it ends up getting booked.

It would also add to what is looking to be a very strong UFC 248 card headlined by a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero.

Do you think we’ll end up seeing the matchup?

Darren Till Injured, Won’t Face Jared Cannonier At UFC 248

It looks like we won’t be getting a Darren Till vs. Jared Cannonier matchup. Cannonier was originally scheduled to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 on March 7. It looks like we won’t be getting a Darren Till vs. Jared Cannonier matchup.

Cannonier was originally scheduled to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 on March 7. However, the latter had to pull out for undisclosed personal reasons.

Till — who enjoyed a successful middleweight debut against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244 in November — seemed the ideal choice to step in. In fact, it was even reported that the matchup was in the works.

Not according to UFC president Dana White, however. At the UFC 246 post-fight press conference, White revealed that Till has an injured ankle and won’t be replacing Whittaker.

However, the UFC is still looking for a replacement opponent for Cannonier.

As it stands, it looks like Gastelum could step in to face Cannonier. After all, he is a former title challenger and hasn’t faced Cannonier before, even if he is on a two-fight losing streak.

It’s also imperative that a high-ranked middleweight matchup is on the card especially with UFC 248 being headlined by Israel Adesanya’s title defense against Yoel Romero. If anyone were to pull out of the main event, Cannonier or his opponent could step right in and save the card.

Who do you think should face Cannonier next?

Former welterweight title challenger turned middleweight contender Darren Till may finally have his next fight. The popular Englishman is expected to face Jared Cannonier at UFC 248 on March 7, in Las Vegas. The American was set to face former champion Robert Whittaker on the card, but he pulled out earlier this week citing personal issues. According to Amy Kaplan of FanSided MMA, “The Gorilla” is the man who will replace him. Speaking on social media she said.

“BREAKING: I have confirmed with multiple sources that a fight between Jared Cannonier and Darren Till is in the works. Cannonier was originally slated to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 248.”

Till made a successful debut at 185lb by impressively beating Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak after being stopped by Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal. British fight fans have long been speculating about who Till will face. He sent them into overdrive earlier this week when he posted a screen shot of the weather in Las Vegas for March. However, this was prior to Whittaker pulling out, so fans where left scratching their heads about who he’d be facing. After the news about Whittaker withdrawing broke, it then became clear who the #5 ranked middleweight would be fighting. It’d be Cannonier, which is the perfect fight to make right now.

The 35-year-old has been on a tear since moving down from 205lbs. After suffering back-to-back defeats against Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz, he decided to drop 20lbs. That division was proven right as he has since gone on a three-fight winning run. “The Killa Gorilla” has beaten David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson to cement his spot at #4 in the middleweight division. He’ll now likely face Till to decide who is next in line for the winner of Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero on the same card.

Everyone is excited about the return of Conor McGregor later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020), who takes on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV).

Even UFC middleweight contender Darren Till is excited for the matchup, as he recently took to Twitter to offer his thoughts on the matchup. Till broke the fight down before predicting an early TKO win for “The Notorious One” when it’s all said and done.

“I can not fu*king wait for Conor X Cowboy next week. Feels like the old Conor is back. Both are right up for this. Cowboy’s camp have more to be concerned with than just Conor’s left hand though. As a southpaw it’s not the left hand. It’s the set ups from the left hand, the spinning kicks, the faints, angles, etc… It all draws you onto that left hand. Also that’s just not what he brings!

“You don’t beat who he beat by just having a left hand. If I would have taken my own advice above against [Jorge] Masvidal rather than just coming out to try to stream roll him. But he done me fair and good! Anyways a fu*king tear up next week! I’ve got Conor 1st round TKO, feel like the occasion might be too much for Cowboy! But that’s just my opinion, Cowboy’s been around a lot longer than me and knows a hell of a lot more.”

McGregor and Cerrone will fight at 170 pounds, however, UFC president Dana White has made it clear that, should McGregor win, he’ll likely challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title in a rematch from their initial fight in October of 2018. White has described the matchup as a lightweight fight in which neither man is cutting weight.

What do you think about Till predicting an early TKO win for McGregor? Do you agree?
