David Branch claiming is that one title contender is holding up a fight for an upcoming UFC event.

The former World Series of Fighting champion took to his official Twitter account last week to claim that Ronaldo Souza is holding up a fight with him that would serve as the main event for an upcoming UFC Fight Night event.

Branch, who asked for the fight, claims that Souza is not “isn’t feeling confident enough” to sign on. Branch did note that the fight was supposed to take place on August 22nd but likely means September 22nd.

There is a Fight Night event that is set to take place on 9/22 in São Paulo, Brazil at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

This leads us to Souza who has gone on record by stating that he wants to fight Yoel Romero or Kelvin Gastelum next.

Souza’s manager gave a statement to MMA Fighting to confirm that although they were offered a fight against Branch, they would not be accepting the fight.

“Dave Branch was offered to us twice in 18 months. and ‘Jacare’ agreed both times, but he jumped ship,” Gilberto Faria said. “‘Jacare’ wants to fight someone ranked higher in the middleweight division, like rematches with Yoel Romero or Kelvin Gastelum, or a fight with Chris Weidman.

“It doesn’t make sense to fight Dave Branch now,” he continued. “‘Jacare’ is not in a hurry, he will sit down like everyone else does and wait for a bigger fight. ‘Jacare’ has always fought opponents ranked lower than him, and it’s time to face someone ahead of him.”

Another Saturday night, another UFC event in the books with last night’s (Sat., April 21, 2018) UFC Fight Night 128 from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

There were blistering knockouts that thrilled the Atlantic City crowd, but nary a submission throughout all ten fights.

Kevin Lee and David Branch delivered and others faltered, but overall the event was a lively one.

With that said, let’s take a look at the biggest winners and losers from UFC Atlantic City.

Biggest Winners:

Kevin Lee

Lee bounced back from a submission loss to Tony Ferguson by destroying feared striker Edson Barboza.

Lee’s ground and pound was absolutely brutal, punishing Barboza until the fight was stopped in the fifth round. It was just a dominant performance from Lee, who certainly needed a victory to erase that Ferguson loss, which cost him a chance at UFC gold.

Lee could be a serious contender in the lightweight division, and Saturday’s win over Barboza places him right on track for title contention.

Perhaps a rematch with Al Iaquinta would be a good fight for Lee.

UFC Fight Night 128 emanated tonight (Saturday, April 21, 2018) from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. The headliner saw two 155-pound contenders, Kevin Lee and Edson Barboza, duke it out for supremacy.

Apart form the main event, former World Series Of Fighting (WSOF) two-division champ David Branch made an emphatic statement against Thiago Santos with a first round knockout.

This was several months removed from his second round defeat to ex-UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. Branch took home an extra $50,000 for his efforts and Performance Of The Night.

Our second recipient of Performance Of The Night goes to none other than welterweight Siyar Bahadurzada. He pulled off an amazing second round TKO over opponent Luan Chagas by way of body kick.

It was one of the more dramatic finishes of the night and earned the 34-year-old $50,000 more to take home.

Finally, fight of the night goes to the bantamweight scrap between Merab Dvalishvili and Ricky Simon. Simon made his Octagon debut in Atlantic City, and what a debut it was.

The end of the fight brought a ton of controversy as Simon locked in a choke that seemed to render Dvalishvili unconscious. The referee never called the fight off and it seemed as though the fight would go to the judges’ scorecards.

Instead. the decision was made to award Simon the fight for rendering his opponent unconscious with the choke. They’ll both take home an extra $50,000 for their amazing performances.
