Ben Askren owns Conor McGregor with a logical response to the recent comments made by the fellow UFC star.

Earlier this week, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion made headlines due to his comments about a certain topic. That was his take on the UFC’s handling of the flyweight division.

So for a quick recap, McGregor took to Twitter to give his take the situation. He placed the blame on ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong for the reported dissolution. McGregor wants ONE to sign the entire division.

The reason for this is due to the division losing its biggest name and the UFC thinking that the flyweights don’t draw. ONE Championship recently signed Demetrious Johnson as part of a trade with the UFC, who gets Askren.

This brings us to Askren’s response where he pointed out one problem with McGregor’s comments. That was why just losing one fighter (Johnson) would lead to the doom of the entire division.

He brought up how once McGregor wasn’t around, the UFC didn’t get rid of the featherweight division. Instead, Max Holloway took over the division and will make his next title defense against Brian Ortega at the UF 231 PPV event. This show goes down on December 8th. Askren wrote the following:

“I mean Featherweight survived without @TheNotoriousMMA in it, flyweight can’t survive without @MightyMouse ?? Are you telling us DJ>CM???”

Conor McGregor Puts Blame On ONE For Demise Of UFC Flyweight Division

Conor Mcgregor is blaming ONE for the reported demise of UFC’s flyweight division.

The post Conor McGregor Puts Blame On ONE For Demise Of UFC Flyweight Division appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Conor McGregor puts the blame of the reported demise of UFC’s flyweight division on ONE in a recent message on his official Twitter account. It’s been reported that the Las Vegas-based promotion plans to get rid of this division.

The reason for this is due to the division losing its biggest name and the promotion seeing that the flyweights don’t draw. ONE Championship recently signed Demetrious Johnson as part of a trade with the UFC, who gets Ben Askren.

It seems like for the past few years, there has been talk of making this move happen. Even before Johnson’s departure. Now, that Johnson is gone, the likelihood of this division going away has only increased.

Thus, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is placing the blame on ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong for the reported dissolution. McGregor wants ONE to sign the entire division. He wrote the following:

“You must now take all the 125lbers that have been let go, Chatri. You talk all of this Martial Art and respect talk. Yet your greed has directly cost more than half a fighting division it’s chance to earn income for their family. Have respect @YODCHATRI. Sign the division.”

It was revealed on Wednesday that UFC flyweights Jose Torres and Jarred Brooks were released by the UFC. Also, there have been reports that have surfaced that say fighters should expect additional roster cuts in the division.

It should be noted that the UFC has yet to comment on these reports of getting rid of the flyweight division. However, all indications seem that is the way it’s going.

Henry Cejudo Reveals Key To Beating Demetrious Johnson

Henry Cejudo knows what it takes.

The post Henry Cejudo Reveals Key To Beating Demetrious Johnson appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Henry Cejudo shocked the world in the co-main event of Saturday’s (August 4, 2018) UFC 227 pay-per-view event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California when he was able to beat Demetrious Johnson to capture the UFC flyweight title by split decision.

Johnson came into this fight looking to defend his title successfully for the 12th time in his career but that was not the case as Cejudo improved from their first meeting when he lost by first round TKO back at the UFC 197 event in August of 2016 and since that fight, Cejudo went onto pick up victories over Wilson Reis by TKO at UFC 215 and Sergio Pettis by unanimous decision at UFC 218.

At UFC 227, Cejudo earned the right to be known as the first man to beat Johnson since October 2011, which snapped Johnson’s 11 consecutive successful title defenses.

“It’s a true testimony of an underdog,” Cejudo said to MMA Fighting. “I lasted the first fight with Demetrious Johnson two minutes and 36 seconds, and I felt like it was going that way in the very first round too. Those calf kicks, really I couldn’t plant. I was forced to switch southpaw, but it actually helped me. Before all this, I said in order for me to beat Demetrious, it had to be with distance, timing, and composure. And that’s exactly how we took this fight. He got to my legs and that was okay. I wanted Demetrious to work.

“This is surreal. This is a kid who was born 10 miles away from Staples Center, the ghetto streets of South Central LA, to Mexican immigrants, to being an Olympic champion at the age of 21. My mother wasn’t able to go to the Olympics due to her citizenship status to her becoming a U.S. citizen about eight years ago, and me now, 10 years later, being an Olympic champion now carrying UFC gold — it really is a dream come true. On August 19 (2008), I became the youngest in history to ever win an Olympic gold medal (in wrestling), and on August 4, I defeated the man, the myth, the legend Demetrious Johnson. It feels super good.”

In regards to his strategy, he told the media that he knew early in the fight that he needed to force Johnson to expend energy in scrambles and take fewer hits.

“I had to deal with the cards that I was dealt with,” Cejudo said. “In those situations, I had to keep mixing and making it awkward for him, and I noticed even with Demetrious that the more you make him scramble, he gets tired. He gets tired, he’s human, and I said it before: He bleeds just like me. Tonight was my night.

“I think it was patience,” he continued when asked to elaborate further. “I think that was key, and timing, and not allowing a lot of his movement to disorient me. Because he moves a lot, he’s super hard to hit. He’s got a tiny head, like somehow it’s big from the back, but his face, it’s small. So when you fight Demetrious, it’s a small target.

“He’s unlike any other flyweight and I think that was the difference. Like, I’ve got to wait for my opportunity. I might have to get hit a couple of times to give a good hard blow and then transition to my wrestling.”

A rematch between Johnson and Cejudo makes sense but with Johnson revealing that he has some injuries, it will be interesting to see when the UFC books these two fighters once again.

Last night’s (Sat., December 3, 2016) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 24 Finale is in the record books from the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson secured his ninth straight title defense over show finalist Tim Elliott in the main event.

It wasn’t without its moments of adversity, however, as Elliott almost shocked the world with quite possibly the biggest upset in Octagon history when he had “Mighty Mouse” in a tight choke in the opening frame. Johnson showed why he is quite possibly the best mixed martial artist in the UFC when he brought out the heart of a champion to relentlessy ground Elliott and pass his guard with masterful ground work in rounds two through four.

TUF coaches and Nos. 1 and 2 flyweights Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo met in a bad blood-motivated match-up that ended with controversy. The Olympic gold medalist wrestler Cejudo was able to nail the perennial title contender in the opening frame, but a low blow earned a point deduction from Yves Lavigne. That proved to be the difference in at least some way, with Benavidez taking home a thin split decision.

Not much hype surrounded it, but the TUF 24 Finale quietly delivered one of the most action-packed cards in some time, delivering several potential ‘Fight of the Night’ contenders. Watch the event’s post-fight press conference beginning shortly after the main card right here:
