WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury won’t get a chance to look each other in the eyes following their weigh-ins on Friday.

That’s after the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) barred them from doing so following their recent faceoff during a press conference on Wednesday. As Wilder and Fury squared off, they started trash talking each other before it eventually led to pushing and shoving until security had to intervene.

“The reason the decision was made, on behalf of the commission, is because the press conference [Wednesday] spoke for itself,” NSAC executive director Bob Bennett told ESPN on Thursday. “The actions of the two fighters pushing each other, which was not staged, is not indicative of the image of our sport as a major league sport, thus having a faceoff is not in the best interest in the health and safety of the fighters, the public and the event.

“And, quite frankly, that image, where you have two professional athletes pushing each other where somebody could get hurt, is not keeping with the image of a major league sport and we’re a major league sport.”

The decision hasn’t gone down well for some.

For one, Top Rank president Todd duBoef — Bob Arum’s stepson — called it frustrating especially as the traditional weigh-in faceoff is the money shot before a big fight:

“In my 25 years in boxing, I’ve never heard of an administrative body stepping in and prohibiting a faceoff,” duBoef said. “It’s the pinnacle moment before the fight. I am just shocked. That’s the money shot and not having that is frustrating.”

Former UFC two-weight champion Conor McGregor also chimed in, asking the NSAC to reconsider its decision:

“Guys, please relax here. Vegas commission, you are one of thee best commissions, bar none, for impeccably handling events of unpredictability. Place men between the men. Security on stage. Let them get one last look at each other. The last look before it’s really f*cking on.”

What do you make of the NSAC’s decision to bar a final faceoff between Wilder and Fury?

Tyson Fury is approaching his highly-anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder this weekend.

Fury and Wilder headline the pay-per-view (PPV) event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wilder will be defending his WBC heavyweight championship. Just days away from the fight, Fury recently did an interview with The Daily Caller, and made some jokes about his post-fight celebration plans. Fury said he plans on binging cocaine and cheap hookers after his expected win over “The Bronze Bomber.”

“After the fight, I’m going to binge on cocaine and hookers,” Fury said. “Is there anything better than cocaine and hookers? I go to the cheap $30 ones. Yeah [on advice for dealing with a cheap hooker] always give yourself a shot of penicillin before shagging them. If you haven’t got the penicillin then always double bag up.”

One could assume Fury is simply joking, however, “The Gypsy King” has admitted to drug use in the past when he was dealing with depression. Specifically admitting to the use of cocaine. Fury has also admitted to hanging out with “ladies of the night” in the past. Now, Fury seems to have learned to manage his depression issues better, and has been looking great inside the ring ahead of his return against Wilder.

The lineal heavyweight champ only has a few fights left on his deal with ESPN, and has said he’ll seriously consider retirement after the deal is up.

What do you think about Fury saying he wants to binge on cocaine and hookers after his fight with Wilder?

It’s fight week! The eagerly anticipated heavyweight rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury is finally upon us. On Saturday 22 February these two men will square off once again for the WBC title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The first fight ended in a controversial draw. Fury outboxed his opponent for much of the bout but Wilder scored two knockdowns which meant the judges couldn’t split the fighters.

Although a disappointing conclusion at the time, the draw has allowed one of the biggest rematches of recent years to come into being. It has become so big because no-one, not even the bookmakers have a clue what’s going to happen.

Both men are priced 10/11 to win the fight, so you’ll have to find another avenue for your bets if you want to make serous money on this one. If your going to be betting this weekend check out bettinglounge for all the best betting sites, offers and bonuses.

American heavyweight
Deontay Wilder is one of the biggest punchers in boxing history. The 43-fight
veteran has amazingly stopped every fighter he’s been in with besides Tyson
Fury. Unsurprisingly the bookmakers think if he’s going to pull it off it’ll be
by knockout. With this in mind they are offering 6/5 on him to score the
knockout victory.

In contrast the ‘Gypsy King’ is hefty 5/1 to get a knockout win. Despite not being known for having serious power, Fury still has 20 finishes on his record. At times he hurt Wilder in the last fight, so don’t be surprised to see him pour it on this Saturday night and make some punters big money by getting a KO win.

Whilst the oddsmakers doubt Fury can score a knockout win they seriously doubt Wilder will win this one on the cards. The 34-year-old from Alabama is priced at 11/1 to win this fight via the judges’. In fairness they’ve got good reason for this assumption. Wilder’s obvious lust for finishing his opponents combined with his often-sloppy style causes him to lose rounds before ultimately scoring the finish. He’s not a point scorer, he’s not coming to win a decision this weekend and that is reflected in the odds.

On the other hand, Fury
is a master technician and elite level boxer in every sense of the word. His
style is hit and don’t get hit, something he’ll surely want to employ against
heavy hitter Wilder. If he’s able to successfully execute that tactic Fury is likely
take this fight to the judges and get the decision, he felt he had earned in
the first fight. Anyone fancying Fury to do just that will find odds of 13/8 on
the Manchester heavyweight scoring a decision/technical decision victory. They
aren’t the biggest so you may need to bet big, if your confident Fury gets it
done over 12 rounds.

Finally, we can’t’ forget about the draw. Anyone fancying a repeat of the first fights result can get 20/1 odds. I might even have a dabble on this one myself, either way its going to be a close fight, don’t be surprised if Wilder and Fury are again too close to separate.
