It was recently announced (Jan. 15, 2017) that newly crowned UFC bantamweight champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt and ex-titleholder TJ Dillashaw would be coaching opposite each other on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which will premiere this April. The two rivals will also fight after the show at a date and venue to be announced.

Garbrandt may have been booked against Dillashaw, but that doesn’t mean his interest in super fights with featherweight champion Jose Aldo and lightweight champion Conor McGregor has disappeared.

In fact, “No Love” recently took to his official Twitter account to reveal his future ‘hit list’, which includes beating Dillashaw, Aldo and McGregor:

“No Love” is coming off of quite the year in 2016, as he scored three straight victories by T/KO over the likes of Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida and Takeya Mizugaki before picking up a dominant one-sided victory over Dominick Cruz at Dec. 30, 2016’s UFC 207.

Despite his undefeated professional record, Garbrandt hasn’t yet defended his title. Is he getting ahead of himself speaking out on potentially massive fights, or is “No Love” the next big thing in MMA?

TJ Dillashaw Calls Out Cody Garbrandt: He Doesn’t Want To Fight Me

After beating Dominick Cruz at Dec. 30, 2016’s UFC 207 to become the bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt called out ex-titleholder TJ Dillashaw, but “No Love” has since shown more interest in fighting Cruz, or perhaps Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor.

Because of that, Dillashaw, who convincingly beat John Lineker at UFC 207, feels as if Garbrandt wants to ‘avoid’ him:

“It’s funny because, he called me out right after the fight, because he knows that’s who he should be fighting,” Dillashaw said on a recent edition of The MMA Hour. “But then in the press conference, he’ll talk about ‘oh, let’s get Cruz a rematch,’ and he says he wants to call out Aldo or McGregor? He knows he wants to do everything he can to avoid that fight. I’ve practiced with him a long time, he’s a good fighter, but he knows how tough that fight’s going to be.”

Garbrandt and Dillashaw were once teammates at Team Alpha Male, but they have since stirred up a bit of a rivalry since Dillashaw’s departure. “No Love” recently took a shot at “The Viper” saying that he doesn’t sell pay-per-views (PPV), but Dillashaw doesn’t necessarily feel as if that’s why “No Love” isn’t interested in the fight:

“He doesn’t want to fight me because he knows he’s not going to defend the belt, and he’ll never be the real champ,” Dillashaw said. “I’m going to come out and get it back, and he’s going to avoid it.”

“I’m not the flashy guy with the neck tattoos trash talking your head off,” Dillashaw said. “I’m confident, I’ve done what I’ve supposed to. I don’t see any way I can get passed up and if I do, it’s kind of crazy. Who else is out there and beat the No. 2 as decisively as I have and not got the title shot?”

Do you feel as if Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw is the fight to make at 135-pounds?

Reigning World Series of Fighting (WSOF) bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes is widely considered to be the best 135 pounder competing outside of the UFC and after defending his title for the fifth consecutive time this past weekend (Dec. 31, 2016) in New York, he is once again a free agent.

While it’s unclear where he’ll end up, the Brazilian made it clear that he’s interested in fighting the best:

“My idea is to fight the best and be valued for that,” Moraes told MMAjunkie. “I have what it takes to fight the best, I’m absolutely certain.

“Let’s see what we’re going to do. I’m excited, and I hope good offers arrive.”

With that being said, Moraes is well aware that the best fighters typically compete in the UFC, but he admitted that the offer must be right:

“The best are in the UFC,” Moraes said. “It doesn’t take an MMA expert to say that. Certainly, the best are there. But let’s see, let’s see if a good offer comes along and we can fight them and see what I can do. Because I’m sure I can arrive there in impressive fashion – not just there, but in any event, against any athlete in my division.”

Interesting enough, the UFC bantamweight strap was on the line last Friday (Dec. 30, 2016) just one day prior to Moraes’ fight. In a thrilling upset, Cody Garbrandt beat Dominick Cruz to steal the title and Moraes said he was ‘motivated’ by the fight:

“It was a very good fight, with an extremely high technical level,” Moraes said. “It was the day before my fight, and it was good. It really motivated me. And I saw that I’m at that level. It got me very happy and confident for my fight.”

As far as Garbrandt goes, Moraes admits that “No Love” is a talented fighter, although not one that the Brazilian feels is unbeatable:

“I thought Cody fought very well,” Moraes said. “He’s a very tough athlete, very good. That’s it, he’s good, but not invincible.”

Stay tuned to LowKickMMA as more news regarding Moraes’ free agency unfolds.

Cody Garbrandt Wants To Test Jose Aldo’s Chin In Next Fight

Newly minted UFC bantamweight champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt has options awaiting him regarding his next fight. After beating Dominick Cruz at this past weekend’s (Dec. 30, 2016) UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada, Garbrandt could potentially rematch “The Dominator” or he could face off with former champion and rightful No. 1-contender TJ Dillashaw.

Garbrandt, however, is interested in a ‘money fight’ with reigning featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo:

“He has wins over my teammates, he’s a legend, and I’d like to test his chin,” Garbrandt said on today’s edition of The MMA Hour of a potential scrap with Aldo. “I know I hit hard and I’m just getting started.”

“I’m young enough to go up and I’ll fight anybody. To be honest, I truly believe that I’m ready to fight and I believe that I go out there and I put on a performance, and I’m a draw, and I want the biggest money fight for me. I think I saw Jose Aldo say that he’d like to fight me, and you know, I’d like to test his chin. Like I said, he’s got wins over my teammates and I want to get every one of those back. There’s so many fights for me. I just gotta sit down with my management team, Sean [Shelby], Dana [White], and see what fight’s the best for me and the biggest money fight that will get us all rich, get us all paid. That’s what I want to do.”

While Dillashaw is obviously the reasonable choice from a rankings standpoint, Garbrandt seems to be focused on the ‘biggest challenge’ and on the biggest payday, which seems to be a focus of more and more champions nowadays:

“[I want] whatever benefits me,” he said. “I’m the champ. I just went out there and beat one of the best pound-for-pound, he’s been on the pound-for-pound list for however long now. I want the biggest draw. I think Jose Aldo. I want the biggest challenge. I’m in this sport to challenge myself. I just beat Dominick handily. I’m ready for a bigger challenge. I think Jose Aldo is tough, I respect him, but I want to test his chin. I hit like a Mack Truck.”

Garbrandt is indeed a heavy hitter, but Aldo is quite a large featherweight and a man that is regarded as one of the best 145 pounders of all-time if not the very best.

How do you think “No Love” would matchup against “Scarface”?

Cody Garbrandt: Let’s Give Cruz An Immediate Rematch

Undefeated bantamweight knockout artist Cody “No Love” Garbrandt completed his rise to the top last night (Dec. 30, 2016), dominating Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada to become the undisputed 135-pound division. With the belt now strapped around his waist, Garbrandt has options awaiting him in his next fight.

A rematch with Cruz is a possibility, as is a possible showdown with ex-champion TJ Dillashaw, who put on a terrific performance last night as well by defeating John Lineker. Whatever happens next, however, Garbrandt says that he ‘calls the shots’:

“You know what, I had so much fun in there, Dom’s been arguably the best bantamweght in the world, let’s run that s*** back again,” Garbrandt told MMAFighting.com. “Let’s give him an immediate rematch and he can go on to the next chapter of his career. I’d like to give Dominick Cruz a rematch. Ultimately, it’s up to the UFC, but I’m the champion. I’m the baddeset dude in the division, so ultimately, I call the shots.”

“No Love,” a staple of the Sacramento-based Team Alpha Male, was just another member of Urijah Faber’s team to take on Cruz, and he attributes much of his success to “The California Kid”:

“Urijah (Faber) was a huge part of me being a world champion,” said Garbrandt. “He believed in me the way I believed in myself. It gave me more motivation and more determination to make it.”

“He made me cry,” said Garbrandt. “We cried together. It was happy tears. We shared that moment. It’s been great to be part of the team. I remember coming out there, 1-0, a year off from injuries, from brain trauma, and I said, `I’m not losing any more time in my life and my passion. I’m going to challenge myself against the best team in the world.’ I showed up in Sacramento. Urijah and Team Alpha Male put me through the gauntlet. I remember Urijah asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted to fight in the UFC. He said, `Get to 5-0 and I’ll get you there.’ Now I’m 11-0 and world champion.”

Now atop the 135-pound division, who should Garbrandt take on next?

The UFC closed out 2016 with a massive card last night (Dec. 30, 2016), as UFC 207 went down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not only was it the year’s last card, but UFC 207 also represented one of the year’s most monumental cards.

The main event featured a bantamweight title fight between champion Amanda Nunes and returning ex-champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. The co-main event also played host to a 135-pound title fight, as Dominick Cruz squared off with Cody “No Love” Garbrandt.

The event provided fight fans with exciting fights, but also gave fans new insights and answers to questions that had been lingering.

Let’s take a look at the five biggest takeaways from UFC 207:

TJ Dillashaw Is The No. 1 Bantamweight Contender

The bantamweight title picture was indeed mixed up last night and while a certain former champion whom we will discuss later on may receive an immediate rematch, we learned that ex-titleholder TJ Dillashaw is the division’s No. 1-contender.

Dillashaw took on red-hot No. 2-ranked John Lineker on the main card of last night’s event and scored a dominant decision victory. The hard hitting Lineker had been riding a four fight win streak, but Dillashaw was able to beat him soundly, making it look easy in the process.

The ex-champion also scored a similar type of victory over another top contender in Raphael Assuncao last July, giving him two straight victories since losing the title to Dominick Cruz last January. Dillashaw has now knocked off two dangerous contenders in a row and he should receive the next shot at gold.
