Light heavyweight contender Dominick Reyes released a statement following his impressive victory over Chris Weidman on Friday night.

Reyes enjoyed a first-round TKO victory over former middleweight champion Weidman in the UFC Boston headliner after dropping him and finishing him with hammerfists. It was the biggest win of his career while “The Devastator” also remained unbeaten with a 12-0 record.

And on Saturday, he reflected on what was an “amazing” night while thanking Weidman for the opportunity:

“Thank you Jesus! What an amazing night I couldn’t have dreamed it better. I will forever remember this night in Boston! Thank you to my friends, family and fans for all your unwavering support! Thank you to @chrisweidman for the opportunity you are a great warrior. I love this game it is just my time, thank you @ufc for the love. Dominick Reyes believes he’s the clear-cut next challenger for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. However, Jones’ manager, Ibrahim Kawa, doesn’t seem to agree with that notion.

Kawa took to Twitter recently and noted he thinks the young contender needs one more victory before stepping into the Octagon with his client.

“Reyes is 1-1 in his last 2 i believe. Reyes needs another win first. The W against volkan is ehhhhh most people thought he lost that one.”

To be clear, Reyes is undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. However, in his previous outing against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC London earlier this year, Reyes won a split decision that many believe he should’ve lost. Over the weekend, Reyes bounced back from the less than desirable performance in a big way.

He main evented UFC Boston against ex-middleweight king Chris Weidman, finishing “The All American” with relative ease, knocking him out in the first round in vicious fashion. Now, many believe Reyes is ready to test himself against the likes of Jones – arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. And he has some credible names backing his claim.

Do you think Reyes has done enough to earn a shot at Jones and the light heavyweight title?

Dominick Reyes may have cemented his spot as the next challenger for Jon Jones, but not according to Johnny Walker.

Reyes remained undefeated as he enjoyed an impressive first-round TKO victory over Chris Weidman in the UFC Boston headliner on Friday night. He would call out Jones following the fight and based on his performance, it looks like the bout to make.

However, Walker seems to disagree. On Saturday, he would call out Reyes for a fight on Twitter:

“@DomReyes I formally release @stylebender as @JonnyBones new pussy,” Walker tweeted. “You are now the front runner or u can “WALK” this way ????#aerosmith #walkthisway #ufc”

The callout seems to be tongue-in-cheek but it seems clear that Walker wants to face Reyes in a bout that would undoubtedly determine who should face Jones next.

However, the Brazilian has business to take care of first as he has a fight booked against Corey Anderson at UFC 244 next month. It is also entirely possible that an impressive performance against Anderson could see Walker leapfrog Reyes and get the next title shot.

As Dana White says, we’ll just have to see how things play out.

Do you think Reyes and Walker should fight next?

Former light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier believes Dominick Reyes has the tools to trouble Jon Jones.

Reyes put his name in the hat to be the next challenger for Jones following an impressive first-round TKO victory over Chris Weidman at UFC Boston on Friday night. It put his undefeated record at 12-0 as he called out “Bones” following the win.

And for Cormier — who fought Jones twice — he feels that’s a good matchup especially based on Reyes’ performance against Weidman:

“I think it’s a good matchup,” Cormier said during the broadcast (via MMA Junkie). “Dominick Reyes has a good body. He showed he can stop takedowns. I think it will be a great fight between those two. I believe this kid is the real deal. He’s done everything right up to this point. I’m really impressed with Dominick Reyes.”

Corey Anderson and Johnny Walker face each other next month in a light heavyweight contest at UFC 244. The winner of that bout could also stake a claim for a title shot.

However, Cormier believes Reyes has done enough to earn the next shot. He also holds the physical attributes to stand a chance, in particular, size:

“He’s healthy after that big fight and Jones just got through his most recent court problems or whatever it was – so why not let him fight?” Cormier added. “(Reyes) has the one key thing that has proven to give Jones pause, and that’s size.”

Do you agree with Cormier?
