The MMA world may be somewhat surprised to hear Tony Ferguson returns very soon.

A report broke from MMAjunkie tonight that Ferguson will meet former champion Anthony Pettis at October 6’s UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ferguson has been out of action since he won the interim title by defeating Kevin Lee at UFC 216. “El Cucuy” was scheduled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the vacated title at April’s UFC 223. A fluke injury forced him out when he tripped over a cable fulfilling media obligations. The former interim champion underwent a gruesome-looking surgery. Ferguson has since been medically cleared to return.

He has a big fight waiting at UFC 229. The card is slated to be the biggest draw on the UFC PPV schedule. Conor McGregor will finally return to take on champion Nurmagomedov for the 155-pound title.

Now, two former champions will throw down as well.

Ferguson has won an incredible 10 straight fights in maybe the most difficult division in MMA. Pettis has had more up-and-down results recently. He got back on track at July’s UFC 226 by submitting Michael Chiesa. Pettis is 3-3 in his last six bouts.

“Showtime” reacted to the fight on social media:

UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor from Las Vegas is being billed as the biggest fight in UFC history.

It just may be, as the anticipated October 6 fight is predicted to potentially bring in two million buys. The bout is getting an insane amount of heat due to the heated backstory between the two elite lightweights. McGregor was arrested on assault charges for attack Khabib’s bus before April’s UFC 223. “The Notorious” reached a plea deal in a Brooklyn courtroom last month.

The fight was soon announced thereafter, setting the stage for the biggest return in UFC history. McGregor has been out of action for nearly two years. He was stripped of the lightweight title due to inactivity and will attempt to regain the belt he never lost.

The MMA world is buzzing with anticipation. The UFC released the official event poster to get the hype rolling even more today. Check it out here:

Will Conor McGregor return to spark Khabib Nurmagomedov?

The post Quote: Conor McGregor Looks “Better Than Ever” appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Conor McGregor looks better than ever ahead of his anticipated UFC return.

That’s the story his teammate James Gallagher it telling, at least.

Gallagher recently sounded off on McGregor’s anticipated return to MMA Fighting. The young Irish contender claims his superstar teammate has the ‘fire’ back inside of him. McGregor has supposedly been given a boost from Nurmagomedov to prove his status:

“[Conor] looks better than ever. He’s got that fire back inside of him. When you’re on the top of the world like he’s been for so long, you need to chill out for a little bit to get that hunger back. It’s hard to keep that hunger when you have everything that you’ve ever wanted.

“While he’s been away, Khabib has been creating some hype and getting himself in a position to fight Conor. There are a lot of people who see Khabib as a serious threat, so I think that’s given Conor a push to step up and say, ‘Nah, mate, I’m the champ around here — you’re not on my level.’ I think Conor’s going to show Khabib who’s boss and put him back in his box.”

Back For A Challenge

Gallagher admits that McGregor has all the money he will ever need. That might cause most athletes to stop chasing top-level challenges, yet McGregor is apparently looking for just that.

MMA’s biggest-ever star has beaten every man the UFC put in front of him, Gallagher said, and he’s motivated to do it again against ‘The Eagle’:

“Conor could wipe his *** every morning with a €500 note and it would be just a drop in the ocean for him, so the real part of this he’s interested in is the challenge. You can buy all the cars and everything else, but you can’t buy a challenge like this. The thrill of competition is what is driving him,” he said.

“Conor has beaten everyone the UFC have put in front of him. He climbed to the top of a division and he won a belt, then he won another belt…he loves a challenge. People are saying that Khabib is the guy now and I know that Conor is thinking, ‘I’m going to show all of these people again’. He’s got a fire inside of him to show everyone who is the boss.”

Ticket prices for UFC 229 are here.

The highly-anticipated ticket for October 6’s anticipated pay-per-view event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will go on sale this week. They will be available to the general public at 1 p.m. ET this Friday.

UFC Fight Club Members will receive early access on its website starting Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET. UFC newsletter subscribers will get one day of early access starting Thursday at 1 p.m on UFC.com.

Prices for the event are listed on axs.com (via MMA Fighting) as $2,505, $2,005, $1,505, $1,005, $755, $555, $405, $355, $305, $255, and $205, not including fees. Fans purchasing them can only buy a maximum of eight.

UFC 226 is expected to legitimately contend for the title of the biggest pay-per-view spectacle in UFC history. McGregor will return to the octagon after nearly two years out of action to face undefeated champ Nurmagomedov.

The fight brings the pre-installed bad blood of McGregor’s highly-publicized assault in Brooklyn earlier this year. He threw a metal dolly through the window of a bus containing ‘The Eagle.’ The former two-division UFC champ reached a plea deal in a Brooklyn court last month. Footage of the incident is now being used to promote the fight due to its controversial nature.

Dana White has hinted the event could draw more than two million buys on pay-per-view. Meanwhile, the live gate is sure to be massive.
