A re-match of a no-decision from earlier this year has been added to the upcoming UFC 263 card, as middleweights Eryk Anders and Darren Stewart are ready to settle the score from their first fight.

The UFC made the fight announcement earlier today just a month away from the pay-per-view card set to take place at Gila River Arena in Arizona.

UFC 263 will feature a stacked main card consisting of Israel Adesanya vs. Marvin Vettori, Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno, and Leon Edwards vs. Nate Diaz. It will be the promotion’s second full-capacity event over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Anders/Stewart rematch surely will entice fans looking to tune in to the card early. In their first fight back at UFC Vegas 21, the fight was ruled a no-decision after Anders landed an illegal knee to a grounded Stewart late in the very first round of the bout.

Also of note, the rematch will be at 205 pounds instead of at 185 pounds, due to the quick turnaround and short notice of the fight booking.

Both fighters enter UFC 263 with plenty to prove. Anders hasn’t earned a win since his split-decision victory over Gerald Meerscheart at UFC Fight Night 161 in October 2019, while Stewart is looking to rebound from a tough split-decision loss to Kevin Holland back at UFC Vegas 11.

During his post-fight interview following the first fight against Stewart, Anders addressed his disappointment in the no-decision in a bout he had been dominating up until that point.

“I sacrificed a lot heading into the fight,” Anders said. ” I had him on the ropes, was winning the fight and in the heat of the moment had a lapse in judgment.”

The rematch between Anders and Stewart has the potential to be an early Fight of the Night candidate at UFC 263, and this is an undercard fight that fans won’t want to miss.

After landing an illegal knee during their UFC Vegas 21 bout on Saturday, UFC middleweight Eryk Anders took to social media to apologize to opponent Darren Stewart for the error.

Referee Herb Dean ruled the fight a No Decision after Anders landed an illegal knee following a knockdown of Stewart late in the first round. It was an unfortunate end to a quick turnaround for Anders after struggling to counter Stewart earlier in the fight.

“I’m tremendously disappointed,” Anders said in his post-fight press conference. “I sacrificed a lot for this camp, it was the best weight cut I’ve ever had and was a complete lapse of judgment in the heat of the moment.”

After landing the illegal knee, there was a break in the action to evaluate Stewart’s condition. Although Stewart wanted to keep the fight going, the responding doctor overruled and the bout was called off.

UFC Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner said afterward that the No Decision in the Anders-Stewart fight was due to the fight not lasting two full rounds, along with the knee being determined as accidental.

Both fighters came into the bout with something to prove in the UFC’s Middleweight division. Anders made his return to the octagon after a 10-month hiatus following his loss to Krzysztof Jotko, while Stewart looked to rebound after a close split-decision loss to rising star Kevin Holland.

The conversation over illegal knees in Mixed Martial Arts has skyrocketed after the abrupt ending to Petr Yan vs. Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259 last Saturday.

It is unclear at the moment what is next for both middleweights following the anticlimactic ending to their bout. The UFC brass could schedule an immediate rematch between Anders and Stewart, or continue to move the talent-rich Middleweight division forward.

Well, here we go again. One week removed from UFC 259’s disqualification debacle between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling, we’ve got more controversy at UFC Vegas 21. Opening the main card, Eryk Anders vs. Darren Stewart ends in a ‘No Contest’ after the former lands a late first round illegal knee to a grounder, Stewart.

Dropping the British puncher on the feet, Anders swamped for what appeared to be an age, with referee, Herb Dean allowing Sterwart to work to a better position. Attempting to finish Stewart, Anders threw a knee to a grounded Stewart hwo had right foot, left knee, and left hand planted to the Octagon canvas.

Separating the two, Dean called for the Octagon-side doctor to assess Stewart, who confirmed his intentions to continue fighting. After calling the Poplar native to walk toward him, the physician eventually informed Dean that Stewart could no longer continue, resulting in an end to the matchup. Per the broadcast, UFC VP of affairs, Marc Ratner detailed how the fight ended in a ‘No Contest’ rather than a disqualification as the fight failed to see beyond the second round, as well as the fact that the illegal blow wasn’t deemed intentional.

Below, catch the highlights from Anders’ ‘No Contest’ clash with Stewart.
