Donald Trump paid $2.5 million for Holyfield and Belfort fight by Triller

Former United States President, Donald Trump, received a huge payment for commentating the Evander Holyfield Vs. Vitor Belfort in 2021.

In the few years since Triller has moved into the combat sports world, their story has been filled with controversies and questionable business decisions. They did get off to a good start however, putting on a fight between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr in November of 2020. The exhibition contest was well received and drew great interest – reportedly doing over one million pay-per-view buys.

They would also play host to the Jake Paul Vs Ben Askren fight, an event which would oddly feature performances by huge music stars such as Diplo, Justin Bieber and Doja Cat.

In February 2021, Triller would outbid both Matchroom and Top Rank to promote the first fight between George Kambosos Jr. and Teofimo Lopez. However, after spending $10 million Triller wore unable to put on the event, being found in default of their contractual obligations and the rights would then be given to Matchroom.

Triller has also involved in several lawsuits over the past few years, both as plaintiff and defendant. They have been sued several times non-payment.

Triller Pays Donald Trump millions

As if their financial decisions could be summed up perfectly, it has now come to light that they paid Trump a huge fee for his time on the commentary desk. The Washington Post reported a fee of $2.5 million was paid to America’s 45th president. In a statement, Triller stated would state –

“The payment made to Trump for his commentary was consistent with the fees typically received by celebrity commentators.”

On September 11 in 2021, Triller put a boxing event, shamefully pitting a 58-year-old Holyfield against Beflort. The Brazilian would make quick work of the former heavyweight champion, knocking him out in the first round. The undercard would also feature Anderson Silva Vs. Tito Ortiz, jono Carroll Vs. Andy Vences and David Haye Vs. Joe Fournier.

Trump has been around the combat sports for decades, most recently being cage side for UFC 290 just two weeks ago.

Evander Holyfield son suffers KO loss to electrician in boxing debut

Evan Holyfield, son of former undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, suffered a brutla knockout loss — at the hands of a journeyman, former electrician in first professional defeat.

Evander ‘Real Deal’ Holyfield is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters to grace the boxing ring. An Olympic gold medallist, undisputed at both cruiserweight and heavyweight, Holyfield was also crowned champion at 200lbs+ four times in his career.

Holyfield was notoriously tough, taking on the best heavyweights across multiple generations, he was an aggressive fighter who could comfortably go all 12. While the boxer-puncher never possessed critical one punch power, the American could hit hard enough to hurt just about anyone and didn’t just have hand speed, he could put the combinations together.

Now retired, Holyfield’s son, Evan has been left to carry on the name and turned to the professional boxing ranks in 2019. Not as big as his father, he competes around the light-middleweight mark, Holyfield showed decent ability going on a nine-fight unbeaten streak up until May of 2022.

Holyfield, who was priced as a -10000 favrioute, would be matched up against then 6-5 journeyman, Jurmain McDonald as part of a Triller event. McDonald, who was an electrician, would throw a looping overhand and catch and severely dazing Holyfield, forcing the ref to call it off in the second round.

Holyfield would bounce back nine months later, earning a first round knockout over Terrance Jarmon while McDonald has lost hist last two.

Evan Holyfield, son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, suffered a major setback in his pro boxing career when he was viciously knocked out by journeyman Jurmain McDonald on Saturday.

Holyfield (9-1-0) was riding a nine-fight undefeated streak when he stepped into the ring at TrillerVerz 5. Emanating from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA, Holyfield was poised to keep his undefeated streak alive as a massive -10,000 favorite according to Pro Boxing Odds

Instead, the 6-5 McDonald would drop Holyfield with a crushing right hand in the second round of the bout, sending Holyfield face first to the canvas. Holyfield was unable to answer the referee’s ten count and appeared to immediately protest the stoppage while still on the mat.

Prior to the loss, Holyfield had an undefeated record of 9-0 with six of those victories coming by way of KO/TKO.

Evan Holyfield Hopes to Follow in the Footsteps of His Legendary Father

Evan Holyfield is the son of boxing great Evander ‘Real Deal’ Holyfield. Starting his career at 28-0, Evander won world titles at both heavyweight and cruiserweight. Notable wins came against Larry Holmes, George Foreman and Buster Douglas, though most fans will remember Holyfield’s bouts with combat sports icon Mike Tyson

In their first contest, Evander scored a sizable upset over Tyson, but their rematch on June 28, 1997 received significant mainstream attention after ‘Iron’ Mike was disqualified for biting off a one-inch piece of Holyfield’s right ear during a clinch.

Evander officially retired from competition in 2011, but at 58 years old, stepped out of retirement for an exhibition bout against former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort at Triller Fight Club in September. Belfort won the fight via first round TKO.

Following the upset, Evan Holyfield took to social media and gave praise to his opponent.

“Blessed to be in good health, and that was good shot no cap! Hope I didn’t disappoint too many folk, but I promise I’ll make up for it. Definitely still have my sights on being world champion!,” Holyfield posted on Twitter.

Vitor Belfort sees no issue with his win over Evander Holyfield.

In the main event of Triller Fight Club Legends 2, Belfort was supposed to fight Oscar De La Hoya but De La Hoya tested positive for COVID-19 and was replaced by Holyfield. The news surprised many and after the public workouts happened, many thought the 58-year-old shouldn’t be allowed to box but the fight happened and Belfort scored a first-round TKO.

After the fight, many criticized Belfort and the promotion for allowing this fight to happen. Yet, the former UFC light heavyweight champion sees no issue with it.

“He tried to rip my head off, he knocked himself out at one point and got such a cross that he fell to the canvas by himself. If I don’t dodge my head would be rolling on the floor,” Belfort said to AG Fight.

“Then people criticize that I was very, very roasted. I’m not worried about that. I beat the most powerful heavyweight in history, who beat Mike Tyson. Unfortunately, the ‘haters’ will be there to criticize you. If I fight a guy over 50 is it worth it? If I win they will criticize. The animal was too strong, he is a horse and he was boxing well and I was very precise. Nobody talks about my accuracy, how good I was. They talk about how bad he was. He wasn’t bad, I demolished him.”

In the fight, Vitor Belfort came out aggressive and rocked Evander Holyfield early. He then dropped him, and after he hurt him, the Brazilian said his instincts of going for the kill took over.

“I was cautious, I started slowly, but when he came up with it, I had my time. When you smell blood, it’s time to hunt. It would be unnecessary (if the referee lets it go on longer), given his age,” Belfort explained. “He took a lot of uppercut blow to the chin. The first one got really strong. Then there were other blows. But as many people think they are the other’s head, so let it die. It’s part of it.”

Belfort is now expected to box De La Hoya on Thanksgiving weekend on Triller once again, but this has yet to be confirmed.
