Fallon Fox has presented data in an attempt to debunk the claim that transgender female athletes have a physical advantage over cisgender female athletes.

The topic of transgender women competing against cisgender women in sports has been a hot topic in recent months. This includes MMA, where transgender female Alana McLaughlin made her victorious debut last September.

But before McLaughlin, there was Fallon Fox, who was the first transgender MMA athlete to gain media attention during her stint as an active fighter from 2011-2014. Fox went 5-1 in her career, with her sole loss coming to the UFC’s Ashlee Evans-Smith in 2013.

Not unlike McLaughlin, Fox was subject to her fair share of criticism. She particularly had conflict with Joe Rogan and Ronda Rousey in 2014, which coincidentally is the last year she competed.

Eight years later, Fox has taken it upon herself to again speak up on behalf of transgender female athletes competing against cisgender female athletes with a pair of social media posts that share medical information that Fox believes debunks any claims of advantages for transgender women over cisgender women. You can view the posts below.

“New research finds trans women that undergo HRT their hemoglobin levels reduce to the normal F range within just 3–4 months & their Vo2 Max in 4-6 months & their muscle reduces mass 9.4 % in just the first 12 months of T deprivation,” she posted along with an accompanying graph of medical data.

“Trans athlete Isaac Henig is a trans man who has never been on HRT (testosterone), & he just beat trans woman Lia Thomas who has been on HRT for over 2yrs. Also, some cisgender women had faster times than Lia Thomas this time around,” she posted along with an article sharing an anecdotal story to support her argument.

Alana McLaughlin is yet to compete again since her debut victory. In the meantime, like Fox, she, too, is serving as an advocate for transgender individuals, including targeting right-wing politicians for what she considered to be anti-trans legislation.

What are your thoughts on Fallon Fox’s supporting evidence that transgender female athletes are not at an advantage over cisgender female athletes?

Fallon Fox is giving praise to fellow transgender MMA fighter Alana McLaughlin after she picked up a victory in her pro debut.

Fox made international headlines 2012 when she became the first transgender person to compete in professional MMA. She would go on to finish her career with a 5-1 record, with her lone loss coming at the hands of Ashlee Evans-Smith. Fox endured much criticism throughout her career, from MMA fans to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, who addressed her career on an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.

“First of all, she’s not really a she,” Rogan said. “She’s a transgender, post-op person. The operation doesn’t shave down your bone density. It doesn’t change. You look at a man’s hands and you look at a woman’s hands and they’re built different. They’re just thicker, they’re stronger, your wrists are thicker, your elbows are thicker, your joints are thicker. Just the mechanical function of punching, a man can do it much harder than a woman can, period.”

Over the weekend, McLaughlin became the first transgender person since Fox retired in 2014 to follow in her footsteps. She faced Celine Provost at Combate Global, winning the fight by second round submission. Afterwards, Fox posted pictures of the two celebrating together.

“”Aaaaaaaaand here with the winner of tonight’s fight, by rear naked choke, @AlanaFeral !!! #Team Trans #Trans Athletes”

Yo @AlanaFeral! This is a awesome photo of your submission #TeamTrans #TransAthletes #TransFighters”

Like Fox, McLaughlin too has faced her share of criticism for venturing into the MMA world. Most notably, UFC middleweight contender Sean Strickland has taken aim at her, calling her out over his Instagram account.

For her part, McLaughlin has remained undeterred and has said she hopes to continue her MMA career.

Rosi Sexton

Rosi Sexton was once completely opposed to the idea of allowing transgender athletes to fight in MMA, but she has taken a different position now after seven years away from the sport.

Sexton is regarded to be one of the pioneers in women’s MMA after a long career in the UFC, CageWarriors, and Bellator. She competed against the best of the best in the sport including Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade.

The conversation regarding transgender athletes competing in combat sports has picked up over the past few months after former transgender athlete Fallon Fox went after Joe Rogan during the promotion of their upcoming Biopic. Sexton recently wrote an op-ed on SB Nation on the topic and alluded to her own personal experiences with the issue.

“When people ask me why trans rights are something I care about, I tell them the truth,” Sexton said in an article posted to SB Nation’s Outsports. “I want to support my trans friends who are too often on the receiving end of some awful discrimination, abuse, and harassment.”

“Whenever I stand up for trans-inclusive policies, I get a barrage of similar abuse hurled my way, allegations that I support abuse of women, of children, that I’m stupid and don’t understand biology, that I’m on the side of deluded or predatory men. It can become overwhelming.”

Back in 2013, Sexton had said in a blog post that she was disappointed with Fox not publically announcing their gender identity during their combat sports career and that it was unfair for their opponents in MMA.

Sexton and Fox had a recent conversation about the issue of transgenderism that Sexton alluded to as “uncomfortable”. But, it appears that Sexton has changed sides on the issue and is happy to help the transgender community in any way she can.

Fallon Fox has explained why some arguments made against transgender women competing against cisgender women in sports are “bogus”.

Fox was assigned the male gender at birth before later transitioning to become a woman. In 2012 she began a career in MMA and controversially scored two knockout wins before revealing her gender identity to the world.

The 45-year-old divided opinion with some prominent figures in MMA, most notably Joe Rogan, campaigning against trans women being allowed to fight cisgender women.

Fox retired from the sport in 2014 following stints with CFA and KOTC. She finished with a 5-1 record as a professional and is largely regarded as the main voice in the discussion surrounding transgender athlete’s competing in sports.

Fox recently spoke with ET Canada in an interview previewing her upcoming film. During the chat with Shakiel Mahjouri the transgender advocate explained why it’s not fair to exclude trans woman from sports.

“People like to ask me about the science behind trans athletes, and I’ll tell you what I know, but it’s not like I’m pulling all this stuff out of thin air,” Fox said. “Nowhere in the tale of the tape is bone density ever introduced. Right? Nobody ever talks about bone density.”

“There are bone density differences between men also and in women also. For instance. African-American women have more dense bones than Caucasian women do,” Fox added. “I don’t see anyone saying that we shouldn’t have African-American women competing against cisgender women.”

“Most of the time to have more dense bones than cisgender white men do. We never talk about this and I think it’s just bogus for them to even bring up bone density in the first place. Things like that that people just bring out of thin air and just say are true, that [is what] we’re fighting against.”

Fox is ready to debate the topic but doesn’t think the MMA community is willing to have a reasonable discussion about the inclusion of transgender athletes.

“I don’t think the world of MMA is ready to have an intelligent conversation about transgender athletes, but I’m willing to have that conversation and I’m always willing to stand up,” Fox said.

Do you agree with Fallon Fox? Should transgender women be allowed to fight cisgender women?

Fallon Fox Rips Joe Rogan Over Transgender Athlete Comments

Fallon Fox Joe Rogan

Fallon Fox is taking aim at UFC commentator Joe Rogan ahead of an upcoming biopic on her life and career in Mixed Martial Arts.

Fox retired from MMA in 2014 following stints with CFA and KOTC. She recorded a 5-1 record as a professional and is largely regarded as the main voice in the discussion surrounding transgenders competing in athletics.

Fox recently spoke with ET Canada in an interview previewing her upcoming film, and also discussed the social issues that arose from her career in combat sports.

“A lot of prominent people were talking about a bunch of horrible things. The Joe Rogans, the Ronda Rouseys, the Dana Whites of the world,” Fox said when asked about what the experience was like when she came out as transgender. “From what they said about me in the past, I could have just crawled up into a ball and given up. I could have just stopped competing, but I didn’t. I kept competing and I kept talking about this issue and I’m going to continue to do it.”

Fox went on to respond to Rogan specifically, over remarks he’s made on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience over transgender athletes competing in weight lifting and MMA.

“No, he shouldn’t speak, especially on this issue that’s so important to transgender people and transgender people’s lives,” Fox said. “Just like coronavirus is important to people’s lives. He just brings up these things and just makes them up.”

“I think people should pay attention to what he said, that he’s not an expert. You know, he’s not an expert, so people should take what he says with a grain of salt.”

This isn’t the first time that Fox has taken issue with Rogan’s comments in the past. She recently called for Rogan’s podcast to be canceled by Spotify after he signed a multi-million dollar deal to stream on the platform.

During a podcast episode with comedian Tom Segura, Rogan elaborated on why he thinks male-to-female transgender athletes shouldn’t compete against women.

“This ideology is cult-like,” Rogan said. “The bone structure is so different and the people who deny that are fucking crazy. We want to save people’s feelings, and what’s fascinating in the process is that you go towards the most maligned section of society. Which are transgender people. But women get put into a less-protected part of society than a transgender.”

“”You don’t look at (Fallon Fox) and think she can compete like Claressa Shields and Cris Cyborg. She’s not good. She’s physically way different, she’s a fucking man.”

What are your opinions on Fallon Fox and Joe Rogan’s comments regarding transgender athletes?

Tim Kennedy

Kennedy captured global media attention earlier this month when he became the willing participant in a demonstration about the controversial interrogation technique known as ‘Waterboarding.’

Kennedy, a special-forces soldier and ex-UFC contender, live-streamed himself being waterboarded off-and-on for 40 minutes in an attempt to prove that it was not a form of torture, and instead was simply just ‘uncomfortable’.

There was a political motive behind the demonstration though – to support Gina Haspel, who was coming under fire for having overseen ‘black-sites’ in which waterboarding had been used during the ‘War On Terror.’

“Right now, an amazing hero has been appointed to be director of the CIA and because of that, some of the things she has done are being attacked,” Kennedy wrote alongside the video feed.

If I can change one person’s mind about what torture is and what I would do to protect American freedom, I will do this for years.”
