The UFC has finally revealed the full event lineup for it’s July 15th card on “Fight Island”.

The card is to be headlined by ranked featherweights Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. The two will face off with Ige looking to climb the rankings and make his way into the top 10 while Kattar is aiming to prove he deserves to be in title contention.

Coming off his recent knockout victory of Jeremy Stephens, Kattar took this fight after Stephens failed to make weight continuing to showcase a stellar performance finishing Stephens with elbows towards the end of the second round.

Ige’s most recent bout was against Edson Barboza. This would be Barboza’s first fight at Featherweight and it didn’t go as planned for the former lightweight with Ige winning a split decision. What was a very close fight went to the judges who ultimately thought Ige did enough to get the nod.

In the Co-Main event, we see a bantamweight matchup between Frankie Edgar and Pedro Munhoz. This is the first time Edgar has made the move down to bantamweight. The former Lightweight champion was set to make the move in 2019 until a short notice loss to The Korean Zombie left him unable to participate in his scheduled bantamweight debut.

Pedro Munhoz most recently faced Aljamain Sterling in June of 2019, losing a unanimous decision. Munhoz is going to look to get back into the win column when he welcomes the former champion to his new division.

You can see the full card below.

Main Card:

  • Calvin Kattar vs. Dan Ige
  • Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz
  • Carla Esparza vs. Marina Rodriguez
  • Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Mounir Lazzez
  • Jared Gordon vs Chris Fishgold

Preliminary Card:

  • Modestas Bukauskas vs. Vinicius Moreira
  • Molly McCann vs. Talia Santos
  • Ricardo Ramos vs. Lerone Murphy
  • John Phillips vs. Dusko Todorovic
  • Tim Elliot vs. Ryan Benoit
  • Diana Belbita vs Liana Jojua

UFC president Dana White has confirmed that ‘Fight Island’ is located Yas Island in Abu Dhabi as was reported by Combate late last week. The UFC boss also announced the island will host events on July 11, 15, 18 and 25, he wrote the following alongside a video promoting the island. “#UFCFightIsland starts July 11, 15, 18 and 25th YAS Island, Abu Dhabi.”

The UFC also released an official press release earlier today, it read.

UFC will produce four events on Yas Island, including one Pay Per View, UFC® 251, and three Fight Nights.  The action-packed schedule begins with UFC 251 on Saturday, July 11, and will be followed with successive Fight Nights on Wednesday, July 15; Saturday, July 18; and Saturday, July 25.  Details for each event, including fight cards, will be announced in coming weeks.

“To accommodate existing public health guidelines, DCT Abu Dhabi will create a safety zone within the nearly ten square mile (25 km2) Yas Island that will include an arena, hotel, training facilities, and dining establishments.  This safety zone will only be open to UFC athletes and their coaches; UFC staff and other event personnel; and Yas Island employees who are necessary to ensure the operation of the facilities.

“HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Our partnership with the UFC, now in its second year, has proved to be one of our most successful ventures in recent years. Thanks to their commitment and cooperation, we are proud to announce that Abu Dhabi will host the first ever “Fight Island” event, marking the long-awaited return of UFC fights to the global stage.”

“He added: “We have worked closely with all government entities in Abu Dhabi to ensure that the staging of this historic event complies with the highest standards of safety for the athletes, coaches, and all UFC personnel as well as the safety of our community. This year, Abu Dhabi has successfully proven its ability to handle all challenges and promote the well-being of its visitors and residents; and today, we are here to showcase the best that our capital has to offer, as we look forward to opening our doors once again to the world.”

“UFC President Dana White commented: ‘We came up with the idea of having fights on ‘Fight Island’ because we needed a destination to hold international events during the global pandemic.  Abu Dhabi has been an amazing location to hold fights over the past ten years and it is the perfect place for these events. The infrastructure we are building will be such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the fighters that’s never been done before – from the arena, the private training facility, and the Octagon on the island – it’s going to be an experience that none of us will ever forget. I can’t wait to deliver amazing fights from Yas island.’”

Dana White’s ‘Fight Island’ is located in Abu Dhabi according to a new report from Combate. The report claims the UFC are preparing to set up shop in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates which has been the home of several past UFC cards. The most recent being UFC 242 in September 2019 which took place on Yas Iland and saw Khabib Nuramgomedov defeat Dustin Poirier inside three rounds.

The report from Combate also claims the UFC is actually set to begin hosting events from ‘Fight Island’ on June 27 and will conclude the use of the purposefully built facility at the end of July.

Speaking to TMZ on Friday the UFC boss contradicted this report when revealing the promotion will begin hosting events from the mysterious ‘Fight Island’ next month – the first being UFC 251 on July 11.

“Here’s a big problem that is going on right now. The fantasy of Fight Island. I’m very worried it will eclipse the reality of Fight Island. The fighters are not going to walk out lined up with tiki torches on the side. I will not be sitting in a big thrown overseeing the octagon and watching the fight.”

“We actually have an arena. We built a little arena there that’s very, very cool. We are going to have a little training facility were the fighters can train and he fighters will have their own private places to train due to COVID-19 and, there will be an octagon on the beach too!”
