It looks like Mayweather Promotions will no longer be the sole promoter of this month’s (Sat. August 26, 2017) Mayweather vs. McGregor boxing match.

The UFC has requested the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) grant them permission to serve as co-promoters for the massive combat sporting event in order to pay Conor McGregor. The NAC will meet on August 16th to vote on whether or not the UFC will be added as co-promoters, along with TGB Promotions (the lead promoter of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC)). Initially UFC President Dana White claimed that the UFC would not be involved in the promotion of the bout, with the exception of with social media and a special UFC Embedded series.

Per MMA Fighting, NAC executive director Bob Bennett claims the UFC will not need a separate license to promote boxing in the state of Nevada. The August 16th NAC meeting will also serve to vote on the referees and judges for the fight, as well as the boxing license applications for both “The Notorious One” and “Money.” While McGregor will be making his professional boxing debut, Mayweather is undefeated in the sport at 49-0 and is considered one of the greatest to have ever done it.

Despite this, Mayweather is over 40-years-old and is required to re-apply for his boxing license as he is over the age of 38, per commission rule. The commission will also be voting on whether or not the fighters will be allowed to wear 8 ounce gloves, which many believe will give the Irishman a better chance at knocking Mayweather out.

Also, in what is more of a formality, Mayweather Promotions has requested to move the fight to the T-Mobile Arena as it was originally slated to go down at the MGM Grand.

Mayweather vs. McGregor will go down live on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada later this month (Sat. August 26, 2017).

We are just weeks away from the biggest combat sporting event in history, as undefeated 49-0 boxing legend Floyd Mayweather puts his spotless record on the line against UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

The pair are set to lock horns in the main event of Showtime boxing pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 26th. Earlier today (Thurs. August 10, 2017) Mayweather held his media workout and spoke about the fight shortly before getting into the squared circle. “Money” discussed his adversary’s training preparations and claimed to have the inside scoop on everything the Irishman was doing.

Mayweather said that, to his knowledge, McGregor is currently sitting at around 160 pounds. The former WBA Welterweight champ also claimed to know a bit about “The Notorious One’s” game-plan, which includes switching his stance from southpaw to orthodox throughout the night:

“Um, it’s like doing your homework. It’s not really watching fight tapes, it’s knowing the person you’re facing, that’s across the ring from you,” Mayweather said. “You wanna know what that person likes to eat, what that person is doing when they’re not in training camp. If they’re drinking, how much they’re drinking, who they’re hanging out with – those are the things you really want to know. That’s called really doing your due diligence and your homework on the opponent. Not just watching films or fight tapes.

“Even like right know, I know how much Conor McGregor is down to – his weight. He’s down I think he was a little bit heavy so he’s at 160 now. So he’s down. I know what’s going on. I don’t have to worry about speaking to Paulie (Malignaggi). Paulie is – one thing about Paulie, I comment Paulie for going to camp and trying to help Conor, of course, trying to help him step his game up to the next level. That’s what it’s about. Giving him that extra boost. And I’m glad that Paulie went to camp to help McGregor.”

“A fighter is a fighter, it doesn’t matter. With McGregor he looks to come out – he’s gonna come out and he’s gonna keep switching, he’s gonna keep switching – I already know what he’s gonna do, I already said before I already know what you’re gonna do. You’re gonna come out, come out southpaw, then switch the other way, keep switching, but when you keep switching all you doing is burning energy. So let me give him some knowledge so that he can see. As you keep switching, keep switching you’re burning too much energy.”

Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is right around the corner, an it continues to steal the limelight as we steadily approach August 26th.

McGregor is set to make his professional boxing debut in Las Vegas against, arguably, the greatest boxer of all time in “Money” in a 12 round 154-pound fight. “The Notorious One” brought in the likes of former two-weight boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi to spar against, and has been putting in rounds nearly every day as he prepares for the biggest fight in his combat sports career.

Earlier today (Mon. August 7, 2017) former WBC and IBF welterweight boxing champ Andre Berto joined The MMA Hour to talk about the upcoming bout between McGregor and Mayweather, and revealed that he is actually good friends with the Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) champion. Berto admitted that he believes McGregor could ‘for sure’ be the one to finally dethrone Mayweather from the top of the boxing world (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“When it comes to Conor, I tell people: He’s a star,” Berto said. “For some reason under that pressure and under those lights and under that atmosphere, he knows how to rise to the occasion. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, he’s one of those special guys that really can thrive in these types of environments, man.

“I just don’t put too much past him. I’ve been able to see and able to go to a few of this fights and really see how he really soaks up that atmosphere and he gets energy from it, where a lot of people really break down or it allows them to fold. He gets energy from that and he knows how to thrive. If it was a guy in the UFC or MMA that can do it, I believe he would be the one, for sure.”

As for how he sees the fight going down, Berto listed a number of possible outcomes for August 26th. The first being McGregor coming out strong after the opening bell and possibly landing a big shot that puts Mayweather down. He can also envision a scenario in which Mayweather goes out and completely out-boxes the Irishman and possibly cuts him or simply beats him down.

In the end, Berto knows anything can happen in the fight game and that no one possibility can be ruled out:

“I see Conor coming in there really showing that bravado, showing that cockiness and showing that he’s really there to fight,” Berto said. “And somewhat trying to steal the stage from Floyd just with his antics and he kind of gets Floyd into a mind-game situation, has him pulling some type of mistakes and [Mayweather] gets caught with a big shot and gets hurt. And [McGregor] could stop him.”

“Or I see Floyd not playing into any of these antics and being who he is, to stay poised and to stay sharp and let his boxing skills just pick Conor apart. And either late rounds stop Conor just from the accumulation of shots or maybe cuts or just being beat up, or just outboxing him for 12 rounds and just trying to make him look silly.”

“It’s the fight game — anything can happen. It’s either Conor catches him early, finishes him or Floyd is gonna outboxing him and makes him look silly and tries to embarrass him.”

Paulie Malignaggi Goes Off On Haters Following McGregor Mess

The heat between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and former two-weight boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi continues to build up.

Malignaggi was brought in to serve as a sparring partner for the 155-pound mixed martial arts (MMA) champ, as he prepares for his professional boxing debut against, arguably, the greatest of all time in undefeated 49-0 Floyd Mayweather Jr. Malignaggi has been sparring with “The Notorious One” for weeks, but announced yesterday (Thurs. August 3, 2017) that he was leaving the Irishman’s camp following some leaked photos from their sparring sessions that made it look like McGregor was getting the best of him.

One such photo showed Malignaggi on his back on the canvas, with a smiling McGregor looking down on him. Malignaggi claimed it was a shove rather than a knockdown, and the referee’s reaction in the photo supports this claim. Malignaggi stated that the only photographer allowed in the room during the session was McGregor’s personal photographer. Due to this, Malignaggi is confident that McGregor is responsible for the pictures being leaked.

This upset the former boxing champ, who took to Twitter and went off on McGregor, saying he ‘beat his ass’ during the sparring sessions and the leaked photos painted a picture that isn’t true. He then suggested that the UFC Performance Institute, which has 24-hour cameras, release the full unedited version of their sparring sessions.

Malignaggi took to Twitter today (Fri. August 4, 2017) to respond to some haters going off on him for leaving the McGregor camp, claiming once again that he ‘beat the breaks off’ McGregor when the sparred:

Mayweather and McGregor are set to go 12 rounds at 154 pounds live on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada later this month (August 26, 2017).
