Forrest-Griffin-1

You have to admit, if we end up going through 2010 without seeing Forrest Griffin throw down, this year’s MMA campaign will be somewhat incomplete no? After all, whether it’s been through getting his ass handed to him by Anderson Silva, shocking the world by tapping out “Shogun” Rua, or thrilling fans in his classic tilts with Stephen Bonnar, Griffin ranks right up there on the ‘got your money’s worth’ index. Plus it doesn’t hurt that the former TUF winner is extremely gifted in the fine art of sarcasm…which is something we’ve always enjoyed (no…seriously).

Of course, Griffin has been on the shelf since earlier this year, due to a shoulder injury which prevented him from fighting Antonio Rogerio Noegueira at UFC 114 on May 29th. With September well underway and no bouts yet announced, the light-heavyweight is running out of time to fight in 2010. Well, speaking on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani recently, Griffin confirmed that his shoulder is at “70ish” percent , and that “My goal right now is to win a fight before the end of the year.” So maybe in December then?

When asked about the possibility of facing Jon Jones, a name which has consistently come up in the ‘who’s next for Forrest’ online discussion, Griffin stated:

“That’s a great fight to take a year layoff with injury fighting a guy coming off like a hot three-fight win streak.”

See—there’s that sarcasm—nicely done. It would be a damn entertaining fight, but yeah; Jones is not exactly an ideal opponent to get back into the swing of things with….

Forrest Griffin has never missed more than a year of action his entire MMA career, and while that streak will likely end this year, the former champ says he would like to fight once more before the end of it.

“My goal right now is to win a fight before the end of the year,” Griffin stated Tuesday to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

Griffin, who underwent shoulder surgery 14 weeks ago, rated his current shoulder health at “70ish” percent.

When Forrest Griffin ran out of the Octagon after getting sat down by Anderson Silva at UFC 101, most of us MMA media types thought, "There’s something we won’t be able to ask him about in an interview."

Apparently time heals all wounds because Forrest has finally broken his silence on what happened in the fight and what was going through his mind as he was jabbed into a living death by "The Spider" and he has apparently taken the  advice he gave me at the MMA Expo about making fun of yourself.

Earlier this week on the The Jason Ellis Show, Forrest brought up the fight with Silva on his own when he was asked if he would be fighting Jon Jones in his next bout

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin appeared on Fox and Friends this morning to discuss his second book, Be Ready When the Sh*t Goes Down: A Survival Guide to the Apocalypse.

Although the release of the book isn’t necessarily a newsworthy event, what is worth noting is that Griffin will be donating the entire proceeds of the sale of the book to a number of charities, including one that has been set up for the young son of his dear late friend John Grantham, who was referred to throughout his first book "Got Fight" as "Big John."

Forrest Griffin is ready to plug his book, but he’s not ready to book a fight.

The former UFC light-heavyweight champ just launched a publicity tour for his new book, “Be Ready When the S— Goes Down,” so expect some random, choice sound bytes over the next few weeks. The first came Tuesday, when Griffin was asked about the possibility of facing Jon Jones. After explaining that he’s not accepting any fights as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery, Griffin marveled at Jones’ rapid ascent.

“That’s just ridiculous,” he said in an interview with WWUZ. “[Vladimir] Matyushenko‘s been around a decade. He fought Tito [Ortiz] for 25 minutes. He’s a great guy. So I haven’t really been paying attention, but I keep hearing he’s the next big thing, and I’m inclined to believe it.”

Long before either man ever competed in the UFC’s Octagon, Chael Sonnen and Forrest Griffin fought each other in the opening round of the IFC: Global Domination light heavyweight tournament.

Fighting a class above his usual middleweight division, Chael who competed in the tourney at his walking around weight of 197 lbs, was unable to contend with the strength advantage and the ground game of Griffin, succumbing to a triangle in the opening frame.
