Junior dos Santos is confident heading into his fight with Francis Ngannou, and has offered his prediction for the bout.

Their heavyweight clash could easily serve as a No. 1-contender fight with an impressive win for either fighter. For the former UFC heavyweight champion, he doesn’t see the bout going the distance due to the knockout power that both he and Ngannou bring to the Octagon.

With that said, JDS is predicting that he can finish “the most dangerous man in MMA today” in the first round come fight night:

“It’s going to be my 12th main event in the UFC, so I’m used to fighting five rounds,” dos Santos told MMA Fighting. “I’ve been training for five rounds for a while. Honestly, it doesn’t make much different adding more rounds, especially because I expect this to be a really quick fight. Ngannou moves forward a lot, goes full speed in the first round. My goal is to make him pay in his first mistake, so I don’t think this fight will go much longer.”

“I think this fight has everything to end in the first round,” dos Santos said. “I move really well, so he can expect that from me. Moving a lot, but always attacking, being aggressive. He must be ready to dance. Muhammad Ali-style. Fly like a butterfly, sting like Cigano — not like a bee [laughs].”

“Cigano” picked up a second-round TKO over Derrick Lewis in the headliner of UFC on ESPN+ 4 on March 9, 2019. Before that fight, the former UFC heavyweight champion scored a second-round TKO win over Tai Tuivasa in the UFC Adelaide headliner. After the win, he laid out the challenge to Ngannou, as he thinks that fight makes sense and gets him one step closer to a title shot. Now, he has his wish.

“JDS” vs. Ngannou will serve as the headliner for the UFC Minneapolis show tomorrow night (Sat. June 29, 2019).

Junior Dos Santos calls out title contender Francis Ngannou for his next fight under the UFC banner. This comes after the latest win in a string for the former UFC heavyweight champion.

JDS picked up a second-round win over Derrick Lewis by TKO in the headliner of UFC on ESPN + 4. This show went down on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

Before this fight, the former UFC heavyweight champion scored a second-round TKO win over Tai Tuivasa in the UFC Adelaide headliner. This fight went down in December at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia on FOX Sports 1.

After the fight, he laid out the challenge to Ngannou as he thinks that fight makes sense and gets him one step closer to a title shot.

“I think that would be great,” Dos Santos said on the UFC on ESPN+ 4 post-fight show (H/T to MMAJunkie). “It should’ve happened in the past, but because of something weird it didn’t happen. Maybe now it can happen.”

“Right now I need a break,” Dos Santos said. “I need to stay active that’s the most important thing right now. Before my career comes my family. My daughter is born in May. I need to get ready to receive her. … I’ll fight again maybe at the end of August.”

The hype behind heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou has made him the man to watch at 265 pounds.

While his UFC 215 opponent Junior Dos Santos was pulled from the card due to a USADA violation, Alistair Overeem has offered his services for a late-fall to early-winter showdown with the French wrecking machine.

While his UFC 215 opponent Junior Dos Santos was pulled from this weekend’s (Sept. 9, 2017) card due to a USADA violation, Alastair Overeem has offered his services for a December showdown with the French wrecking machine.

Overeem discussed a possible fight with Ngannou and laid out a timeline for when fans could see the two juggernauts locked in the cage together rather soon (via MMAWeekly):

“Francis is a very strong guy and he’s doing really good. If the UFC calls me and say let’s do this, then I’ll certainly say yes. I think he’s bigger than me. He’s a challenge and I just see it as a motivation; somebody trying to take something away from me.

“I’m thinking November, December. I just became a dad again for the third time, so first things first, last month was family time, ever since my fight with Werdum. But yeah, I’m open. If the UFC call me and say lets do this, then I’ll certainly say yes.”

Overeem bounced back from a failed title bid against Stipe Miocic at UFC 203 but has since rebounded with wins over Mark Hunt and Fabricio Werdum.

Meanwhile, Ngannou hasn’t fought since a first-round KO over Andrei Arlovski in January, handing him a long layoff when the JDS match fell apart after Dos Santos was notified of a doping violation last month. The UFC tried to find a replacement to keep Ngannou on the card, but eventually pulled him from UFC 215 entirely.
