Jones, the current heavyweight title, managed to clinch the division crown vacated by the aforenoted, Ngannou back in March of this year in the main event of UFC 285, landing a first round guillotine choke submission win over common-opponent, Ciryl Gane

As for Ngannou, the Batié native, revered as one the greatest knockout artists in the history of the sport, has yet to return to the Octagon since he headlined UFC 270 back in January of last year, successfully unifying the heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision win over the aforenoted, Gane.

Tied to a potential fight with Ngannou throughout the last two years, Jones met face to face with the former UFC champion at PFL 5 last night – where he was cornering teammate, Maurice Greene, with the duo lamenting their failed pairing when both competed under the banner of the UFC

“I know that I’m badder than him (Francis Ngannou),” Jon Jones told ESPN during an interview at the event. “So, I don’t have to give him any weird looks or whatever. He’s big muscles, he’s a very impressive looking figure, but when it comes to this fight game, it’s my whole world and I know who I am.”

“I’ve met Francis before, he’s a sweetheart of a guy,” Jon Jones explained. “Outside of the fight game, he’s a pretty respectful guy. I can be pretty respectful as well. I’m looking forward to seeing the brother and giving him some knuckles.”

Departing the UFC following the completion of his contractual obligations with the promotion, Ngannou has since inked a multi-fight deal with the PFL, ahead of an expected return to mixed martial arts competition in March of next year.

With both Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou under the same roof last night at PFL 5 – Jones, who was cornering his teammate and event headliner, Maurice Greene, shared a face-off with the Batié native, with the pair discussing their failed pairing.

PFL heavyweight is Ante Delija welcomes the challenge of Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou’s recent situation has become one of the biggest stories within MMA for quite some time. After a long and ugly contract dispute with the UFC, ‘The Predator’ would test the free agency market rather the resigning with the promotion. Ngannou would land himself a monumental deal with the PFL, not only fulfilling his financial requirements, but also his personal details that were all important.

Ngannou is set to compete in the PFL’s super fight division, but there is questions on who a viable opponent would be as it Ngannou’s bouts are set to be pay-per-view. Heavyweight lacks significant depth and a lot of the elite big men are already signed to UFC.

Ante Delija outlined as welcoming opponent

Reigning PFL heavyweight champion Delija is one of PFL’s brightest heavyweights and should he continue his current winning streak, could find himself in a Ngannou fight. PFL analyst and commentator, Randy Couture recently expressed his interest in the matchup.

“Ante Delija won last year’s championship in stellar fashion and he was very highly touted when we signed him,” Couture said to MMA Junkie. “He struggled with the format early on, and I think he sorted it out.

He’s a game fighter. He’s a solid, well-rounded fighter. Francis Ngannou and Ante Delija, that would be a great fight. I would watch that fight, and I would pay a pay-per-view to watch that fight.” (H/T MMAJunkie)

Talking to MMA News, Delija would be questioned on the interest in a potential Ngannou fight and seems up for the challenge.

I’m very motivated to conquer and get this belt, and fight Francis Ngannou,” Delija exclaimed. “Ngannou is one of the greatest, No. 1 in the world at heavyweight, and I feel like I’m also No. 1 in the world, so, of course, I’m gonna go for his head.”

“We can’t know until the fight happens, but I’m very motivated to fight him at any cost.”

WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury has made a stunning offer to fight both undisputed UFC heavyweight titleholder, Jon Jones, as well as former division gold holder, Francis Ngannou in the exact same night – labelling both of them as “bums”.

Fury, the current undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, has been sidelined from active competition since he successfully retained the title back in December of last year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, defeating multiple-time foe, Derek Chisora with a standing TKO win.

As for Jones, the former undisputed light heavyweight champion returned triumphantly to the Octagon back in March following a three-year-plus hiatus at UFC 285, clinching the vacant heavyweight crown with a first round guillotine choke win over Ciryl Gane.

Himself sidelined since he headlined UFC 270 back in January of last year, Batié native, Ngannou’s most recent outing came opposite then-interim champion, Gane to boot, successfully unifying the heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision triumph.

Israel Adesanya slams UFC for poor treatment of Francis Ngannou: ‘They f*cked him for a long time’

Israel Adesanya does not believe we have seen the last of Francis Ngannou inside the Octagon.

‘The Predator’ walked away from the UFC in January after nearly two years of failed negotiations. Last month, the former heavyweight champion revealed that he had signed a ground-breaking deal with the Professional Fighters League, scoring himself a big bag of cash and the role of chairman for the PFL’s expansion into Africa.

Following the announcement, Dana White was very critical of both Ngannou and the PFL. “Based on what I know about the deal, which is not much, it makes no sense to me,” White said at a post-fight press event. “You’re going to pay a guy not to fight for a year, and it’s already been like [14] months. He’s fought three times in the last three years.” White has also insisted on more than one occasion that Francis Ngannou will never see inside the Octagon again after the promotion courted him for months to no avail.

“We negotiated with him for years,” White said when asked if a Ngannou return was possible. “It’s over, that’s over. He’ll never be in the UFC again. … I never say never, but I’ll give you a never on that one. We tried.”

‘Stylebender’ Says We Haven’t Seen the Last of Francis Ngannou Inside the Octagon

Israel Adesanya isn’t buying it.

Appearing on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, ‘The Last Stylebender’ insisted that the story between Ngannou and the UFC is far from over and believes ‘The Predator’ will return to the Octagon one day despite White’s insistence.

“I’m proud of him because his story is very unique, even before he was in the UFC,” Adesanya said of Ngannou. “The story’s not over yet, everybody needs to chill and just watch…everyone wants to be first…this isn’t a guy that just quits. Dana’s said some stuff in the past [about women never fighting in the UFC]…look where we are now! I think he’ll do what he does and come back, and then they’ll pay him what he deserves, what he’s earned, because they f***ed him for a long time” (h/t MMA News).

There is rarely an instance where Dana White has said no to something and stuck to his guns with the exception of Paul Daley. He stayed true to his word on that subject, but Daley is no Ngannou. Should ‘The Predator’ go and make some massive waves in the PFL, it’s likely that the UFC will circle back around when it’s contract time and offer Ngannou a massive payday for the fight everyone in the world wants to see.

Francis Ngannou unsure of fighting return this year after PFL move nothing is guaranteed

Despite multiple links with a professional boxing debut later this year before a comeback to mixed martial arts competition in 2024, former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has claimed “nothing is guaranteed” regarding his fighting future this year.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from combat sports since January of last year, successfully unifying the division titles with a unanimous decision win over then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane.

Departing the UFC back in January of this year following the completion of his contractual obligations with the organization, Ngannou recently put pen to paper on a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League).

Linked with a transition to professional boxing before the close of this annum, Ngannou has been tied to a potential fight with former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder – as well as current gold holder, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, and Derek Chisora.

Francis Ngannou revealed a two-fight series with Deontay Wilder was “serious”

Sharing his thoughts on Wilder’s recent appearance at PFL 4, Ngannou revealed talks of a potential two-fight series were “serious”.

“I didn’t know that he (Deontay Wilder) was supposed to be there, but that was a good come-out,” Francis Ngannou told The Schmo. “We were having a conversation earlier this year before they came out with a potential fight in December. That’s why we’re going to hold that up in order to finish his business in December. But we were serious about a two-fight deal.”

As far as a return to mixed martial arts competition next year, Ngannou described the possibility of a return as a a “definite” one, however, was unsure if he would fight this year.

“Inside the cage; definitely 2024,” Francis Ngannou explained. “Inside the ring; not quite sure yet. It’s still possible for this year, [but] nothing [is] guaranteed.” (Transcribed by MMA News)
