Diego Lopes lands nasty triangle armbar win over Gavin Tucker at UFC Nashville

After turning in an impressive performance against the highly-touted, Movsar Evloev in his Octagon bow earlier this year, Brazilian featherweight, Diego Lopes has now landed his first victory under the Dana White-led banner, submitting the returning Gavin Tucker with a brutal first round triangle-armbar on the main card of UFC Fight Night Nashville.

Lopes, an experienced featherweight contender hailing from his native Brazil, was forced to overcome adversity almost instantly in his sophomore UFC outing, suffering a brutal groin strike foul inside the opening exchanges of the first frame.

And continuing after less than a minute of recovery time, Lopes managed to capitalize on a takedown attempt by Canadian returner, Tucker, immediately locking up an armbar as soon as his back hit the mat.

Threating with the choke from his back to boot, Lopes then transitioned to an armbar, appearing to severely damage the right elbow of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Tucker — leading to a stunning technical submission win.

Dan Ige Knows He Has The Power To Knock Anyone Out Following Win Over Gavin Tucker

Dan Ige wasn’t surprised one bit with his knockout win over Gavin Tucker.

Ige took on Tucker in a featherweight bout on the main card of UFC Vegas 21 last night. Although he was a slight favorite going into the bout, many observers felt Tucker — who was 13-1 going into the contest — had more than enough skill to come out with the victory.

It took just 22 seconds for that to go down the drain as Ige caught the Canadian with a sniper right hand to get the first-round knockout victory.

As a result, the featherweight contender returned to the win column and also made it seven wins in his last eight outings. And while it was his first clean knockout win in the UFC, Ige knew he always had the power to end fights that way.

“I definitely knew that I possess the power,” Ige said at the post-fight news conference (via MMA Junkie). “I possess the power to knock anyone out. It’s just timing, accuracy, and landing the shot.

“But definitely, and I said it in the press conference before, you know, ‘Fight of the Night’ for me that’s disrespectful. I want a ‘Performance of the Night.’ I don’t want to have a close fight with someone. I don’t want to take unnecessary punishment or damage. I want to go out there, finish fights and get clean kills, and that’s what I did tonight.”

As for who he wants next? The Hawaiian called out The Korean Zombie in his post-fight interview. But in reality, he’s ready to face anyone.

“I mentioned the ‘Korean Zombie,’ but honestly, I’ll fight anyone,” Ige added. “Dana said it, ‘This guy will fight anyone,’ and he wasn’t lying. I risked my ranking tonight against an up-and-coming killer. Yeah, I’m here to fight anyone.”

Who do you think Ige should fight next?

According to MMA DNA, the featherweight veteran is set to take on Gavin Tucker in the UFC’s upcoming May 1 event.

There is no location or venue for the event as of now, but based on the events during the COVID-19 pandemic so far, it will likely take place in Las Vegas or Abu Dhabi.

Swanson is on a two-fight winning streak and will be looking to make it three against the Canadian.

The 37-year-old most recently knocked out Daniel Pineda at UFC 256 back in December. Prior to that, he snapped a four-fight losing streak after outpointing Kron Gracie in October 2019.

He was previously targeting fun matchups in various divisions such as bantamweight and lightweight but it appears he will continue competing at 145 pounds for now.

Tucker, meanwhile, is is coming off a unanimous decision win over Billy Quarantillo which notably took place at UFC 256 as well.

That put him on a three-fight winning streak while the 34-year-old has also won four of his last five overall since debuting for the UFC in 2017.
