Middleweight Champion Gegard Mousasi (48-7-2 MMA) is set to defend his belt against an undefeated Austin Vanderford (11-0 MMA) tomorrow night at Bellator 275 in Dublin, Ireland.

During the build-up to ‘The Dreamcatcher’s’ second title defence, despite the frequently similar ask about his upcoming bout, Mousasi was asked on YouTube with Karyn Bryant about his thoughts about the latest Netflix hit, ‘The Tinder Swindler’.

“He scams a lot of women… but girls do that to guys all the time.” Gegard Mousasi stated, “They don’t go and make a documentary about that but when a guy does that it’s all over and they give him a whole documentary.”

“How many gold-diggers marry older men, like he was 60 and they’re 30 years, and then they divorce and get all the money of the guy, that’s also a sham!”

The Netflix series debuted on the 2nd of February and now has spent three straight weeks in the company’s global top 10 of most-watched movies, it seems to be no surprise as to why the show has caught the attention of Mousasi.

Does Gegard Mousasi believe he can successfully defend his belt at Bellator 272

As Mousasi looks to do something he has never done before and defend his belt two consecutive times in a row. However, the wily veteran seems to be the calm before the storm and is even looking at defending his belt even a few more times within the year.

“I fought 2 times last 2 years,” Mousasi said. “It looks like I’m gonna fight soon again and then the end of the year maybe. So, three to five times maybe this year.”

“I haven’t missed a beat, I’m still fast. I’m still strong, I feel better than ever.”

With Mousasi’s upcoming bout bringing his pro total to 58 fights, he looks to show he is still at the top of his game and extend his Bellator run to 8-1.

Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi is looking to broaden his horizons in combat sport and wants to test himself against Anderson Silva in a boxing ring.

Gegard Mousasi has seen success across multiple combat sports and promotions. Having already been a former Strikeforce and Dream champion he also is the owner of an undefeated kickboxing record. Mousasi spoke on The MMA Hour revealing his interest in making the move over to boxing sometime this year.

“Unfortunately, I’ve fought twice the last two years,” Mousasi said.

“I would have loved to fight more but it’s the pandemic. They’re gonna keep me busy this year. Three times, and I want to fight Anderson Silva in boxing. My managers are gonna push for that fight. You, Anderson, don’t run away from me.”

Gegard Mousasi Vs. Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva’s return to boxing has gone very well following his victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in June. He would go on to knockout Tito Ortiz in their matchup back in September, with more fighters crossing over into different avenues of combat sport it wouldn’t be that surprising if we saw something like this happen.

Gegard Mousasi clearly is wanting to test himself against Silva despite having no interest in facing him in MMA anymore, he knows the challenge in boxing would still be very real.

“Now it’s up to him,” Mousasi said. “I think it’s not very interesting [to fight him in MMA]. In MMA he has lost, but in boxing he’s still winning. I think it’s different and it’s more entertaining.

“I threw it out to Scott [Coker] and Showtime. … I’ve been pushing for it.” (transcribed by mmafighting.com)

However, before Mousasi can think about making the move, he must first get through Austin Vanderford at Bellator 275 this Friday where his middleweight championship will be on the line.

Gegard Mousasi will attempt to pick up a fourth consecutive victory against the undefeated Austin Vanderford in February.

As originally reported by MMA Junkie, Mousasi is set to defend against Vanderford inside the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. Mousasi is ranked #4 in the Bellator pound-for-pound rankings. Vanderford is the #1-ranked middleweight.

At Bellator 250, Gegard Mousasi became a two-time Bellator middleweight champion when he defeated Douglas Lima to capture the vacant title. Earlier this year, the 57-fight veteran successfully defended his title with a TKO victory over John Salter. The 36-year-old champion has a promotional record of 6-1 after joining the promotion in 2017. Throughout his lengthy MMA career, Mousasi has defeated names such as Chris Weidman, Rory MacDonald, Dan Henderson, and Thiago Santos, to name a few.

Mousasi will be tasked with trying to hand Austin Vanderford the first loss of his professional career. Vanderford may be best known for being the husband of Paige VanZant, but he is making quite the name for himself with his work inside of the cage. 6 of Vanderford’s 11 wins have come under the Bellator umbrella. Most recently, Vanderford defeated veteran Fabian Edwards at Bellator 259.

MMA News will be bringing you full coverage of this Bellator event when that February night arrives. In the meantime, let us hear your predictions! Does Gegard Mousasi pick up a second consecutive title defense, or does Austin Vanderford remain undefeated while picking up championship gold?

Gegard Mousasi made another defence of his middleweight title when he faced off against John Salter in the Bellator 264 main event on Friday evening.

The challenger got off to a pretty decent start in round one. Salter secured a takedown and was able to maintain position, drop some strikes and ultimately see out the round on top.

Mousasi turned things around in round two. The Frenchman was able to land at will during the first few minutes. Salter momentarily escaped from the relentless pressure of Mousasi by once again taking the fight to the mat. Unfortunately for Salter, it wasn’t long until Mousasi escaped and went to work in the clinch before finishing the round with some nasty ground strikes.

The finish came in round three. Salter looked tired and Mousasi was shrugging off his takedown with ease. One particular attempt leaves Salter on his back and vulnerable. Mousasi jumps in with nasty ground and pound that ultimately forces the referee to wave off the fight.

Post-fight, Mousasi squared off with Austin Vanderford who appears to be next in line for a shot at the Bellator middleweight king.
