Everyone in the world has learned (save for maybe Nick Diaz) that Dana White has replaced Diaz with Carlos Condit as the title-shot contender against Georges St. Pierre for UFC 137 due to Diaz’s no call no show to the Las Vegas press conference and after failing to make it to the Toronto press conference yesterday.

Also and most disconcerting… No one has heard from Nick Diaz.

Greg Jackson will not train Georges St. Pierre nor Carlos Condit for their UFC 137 Main Event title bout.

UFC 137: Cesar Gracie Slams Nick Diaz: Diaz Has "Disrespected the Sport"

Nick Diaz was set to face Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight championship at UFC 137. But, after not appearing at scheduled press conferences twice in one week, Dana White cut him from the event.

It is now reported that Carlos Condit will take Diaz’s place to fight St-Pierre for the welterweight title at the Mandalay Bay Arena, in Las Vegas.

Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s long-time friend, adviser and trainer, has gone on record slamming Diaz’s actions leading to his removal from the event.

“I don’t blame Dana White on this at all,” Gracie today told MMAjunkie. “This is a professional company, and Nick is a 28-year-old man.”

“I’ve stuck up for Nick, even when he was wrong before,” Gracie said. “But he’s let a lot of people down. He’s let his team down. We all bought plane tickets to Vegas. We got hotel rooms booked, paid for. We’ve got all that, and Nick just decided not to go to something he’s supposed to. They’re paying him a lot of money, and in this economy where people don’t have money, he’s blessed. He should be thanking God every night how blessed he is.

Gracie even volunteered to personally take Diaz to the press conferences and even left his own son’s birthday party to ensure that Diaz got to the events. However, Diaz was nowhere to be found and wanted to make his own way to the conference, according to Gracie.

“And instead, he’s not getting on a plane to go to Vegas. I’m extremely disappointed. He’s done a lot of stuff, but this is the worst of it. If I were him, I would be begging Dana White to get my job back and work your way up to a title shot at some point.”

It seems that Diaz’s actions have taken a strain on the pair’s personal relationship:

“At this point, I don’t know what I’m going to do with Nick because he’s not only disrespected the sport, he’s disrespected me and himself,” he said.

“There’s a lot of people in this world that work hard and show up to work, and they’re grateful to have the job,” he said. “And Nick is obviously not one of those.”

Gracie is clearly upset by the events:

“I’ve barely slept in the last couple of days, and it’s sickened me. Here’s the opportunity that I’ve worked for for over 10 years, to mold a guy to become the best possible guy, and to show he can be the best guy in the world. And he takes this opportunity and he acts like an immature child about it.

“It’s disturbing, to say the least. He got what he deserved by not taking this fight. He told everybody he would do whatever it would take to do it, he lobbied for it, and he acts like this. Dana White is 100 percent correct in what he did.”

This is an unfortunate situation and the future seems bleak for Nick Diaz in the UFC.

GSP vs. Diaz Off: Is Nick Diaz the Dumbest Fighter in All of MMA?

A UFC press conference has officially announced that Nick Diaz has been booted from his scheduled UFC 137 main event fight with Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight championship.

As if we needed any more proof that this guy is the dumbest fighter in the sport…

This news comes after Diaz had missed numerous scheduled press events to help promote the event and has been completely out of touch with everyone within the organization. Even Diaz’s manager, Cesar Gracie, is embarrassed for his fighter.

Gracie called White during the press conference to let him know that he agreed with the decision to pull Diaz from the fight, while also adding that he had not been in contact with his fighter over the past few days either.

There is still no official word from Diaz himself regarding the situation, but the fact that he has been out of touch with even his own management team is concerning.

“He’s running and hiding from his camp, his team,” White explained at the press confernece. “I’d rather pull the fight now than have him not show up the night of the fight.”

In addition to White’s point of view, he revealed that Cesar Gracie told him that Diaz was over at his house, but “snuck out the back door” and has not been in contact with him since.

As was mentioned numerous times by both White and champion Georges St-Pierre, this was an opportunity for Nick Diaz to become a household name. The company spent a massive amount of money promoting a main event for a UFC event—something which Diaz has never been a part of—against perhaps the most recognizable fighter in the sport today.

Diaz has complained over and over again, throughout his career, that he is “not paid enough” and “overworked.” This was his chance to prove that he is worth what he says he is worth. He reportedly signed a lucrative contract which presumably would increase with the potential of him being the champion in perhaps the most competitive division in the sport.

But this fool has thrown it all away.

Love Nick Diaz or not, this is one of the dumbest things that has ever happened in the sport of mixed martial arts. What’s even worse is that, unfortunately, it’s just the latest in a long line of idiotic decisions that this world-class athlete has made.

Not only is Diaz going to lose out on this huge payday, he may very well also be without a job following this incident. Though the UFC President hasn’t decided what he will do yet, and likely won’t until he learns more about what exactly is happening, he has admitted that he is considering releasing the former Strikeforce champion from his newly-signed UFC contract before he even steps into the Octagon.

“I would have to assume that, yes, we’re probably going to let him go,” White said. “But we’ll see what happens.”

Regarding this situation and Diaz’s immaturity, Dana said it best.

“This kid doesn’t deserve this opportunity.”

I hope you enjoy fighting for peanuts again, Nick. Because with your bad attitude and sense of entitlement, that’s all you deserve.

Nick Diaz No-Shows UFC 137 Presser, GSP Now to Face Carlos Condit

In a stunning development, Nick Diaz has effectively gone missing in action from the UFC, forcing company president Dana White to remove him from a UFC 137 welterweight championship match with Georges St-Pierre.

Diaz will be replaced by Carlos Condit, who was already scheduled to fight on the same night.

Diaz had been scheduled for press conferences Tuesday in Toronto and Wednesday in Las Vegas. White said that Diaz missed a series of flights for his Canada trip, and hasn’t been heard from him since Monday night after the company tried to re-book him multiple times.

“I’d had my reservations about Nick Diaz for a long time,” White said during a press conference at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. “You’ve heard me use the term ‘play the game.’ All I asked him for was this much. When he signed, I said, ‘Let me tell you what kid, add up all the purses of you career, this will be biggest fight of your life.’ You have the opportunity to fight GSP and win the welterweight title. But I need you to do certain things.”

Diaz has always been notoriously media averse, but White said in his history of promoting over 1,600 fights, he’s never had this happen. St-Pierre, too, was in a state of shock over the situation.

“I just don’t understand why someone doesn’t show up to an opportunity like this,” St. Pierre said. “I just can’t believe it. It’s amazing. It’s crazy.”

“He was going to make life-changing money for this fight,” White added. “And maybe the thing is with Nick Diaz, maybe he did crack under the pressure. Maybe he folded under the spotlight.”

White said he wasn’t yet sure if he would release Diaz, but acknowledged it was a possibility.

The already shocking press conference turned even more bizarre midway through, when Diaz’s manager Cesar Gracie called White as he was on the podium and apologized for Diaz’s behavior, saying he has been unable to locate him.

At that, St-Pierre shook his hand.

“Maybe he is here and he is going to come out and say, ‘This is a prank,'” St-Pierre said. “Are you trying to prank me?”

White later mentioned that Diaz had been staying with Gracie at his house and “snuck out the back door.” Since then, he’s essentially gone missing. White said even Nick’s brother Nate Diaz could offer no leads on his whereabouts.

The St-Pierre vs. Diaz fight was essentially a title unification bout, with Diaz recently surrendering the Strikeforce belt despite being the reigning champion in order to re-sign with the UFC. Diaz had won 10 straight fights leading up to the GSP matchup, but St-Pierre said he believes Condit is a more dangerous opponent.

“I do believe Carlos Condit is more dangerous than Nick Diaz,” he said. “If they fought, I would put my money on Carlos Condit, so for me it’s a bigger challenge.”

Condit and St-Pierre were both stablemates at Team Greg Jackson, but St-Pierre said he had no issues with facing Condit.

White said that when he called Condit and offered him the title fight, Condit broke down crying in appreciation of the opportunity. White added that Condit immediately got on a plane to head to Las Vegas and meet with the press.

Shortly after the announcement, Condit released a statement voicing his excitement for the match.

“I’ve been fighting for nearly a decade and there has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears that has gone into that,” he said. “A lot of sacrifices have been made both personally and professionally, and I’m looking forward to showing the UFC that I am deserving of this opportunity.”

Diaz is 27-5 overall with four straight wins and victories in 12 of his last 13 bouts. St-Pierre (22-2) has held the UFC championship since recapturing the belt in August 2007, winning nine straight fights.

White said the change comes as a “pretty big financial blow” to the UFC, saying the promotion spent over $15,000 just in flights over the last two days. He also said completed advertising would have to be changed, and that tickets went on sale today for the October 29 event. Fans who purchased tickets expecting to see St-Pierre vs. Diaz will have the opportunity to receive a refund, though White said he wasn’t expecting many to make those requests.

White said he was not yet sure of plans for Condit’s originally scheduled opponent, BJ Penn.
